Desa Seni, A Village Resort Translating to ‘art village’, Desa Seni has gone to great lengths to recreate an authentic Indonesian neighborhood. One of Bali’s most unique retreats, the peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the traditional decor and design, and with a variety of local Balinese spa treatments. Location Set in the midst of lush rice fields in Bali’s trendy Canggu district, Desa Seni is conveniently located less than an hour from the airport and close to the beach. Accommodation Redefining quaint with a capital Q, the refurbished antique Indonesian ‘joglos’ that comprise Desa Seni’s accommodation ooze rustic character. Decorated with locally sourced decor, each handcrafted dwelling has a unique history attached to it, and seamlessly blends into the surrounding rural landscape. Each house has a charming porch, perfect for getting lost in a good book. Further distinguished by winding stone paths, traditional wooden footbridges, verdant gardens and organic vegetable plots, the beautiful landscaping of Desa Seni is one of its greatest aesthetic assets. True to its name, tasteful art sculptures are scattered around the resort’s lawns and there is a personal touch everywhere you turn. Food Program Desa Seni grows 80% of its own produce and embraces a farm-to-table philosophy by working with local farmers. Serving Asian-Western cuisine with a focus on organic, healthy and fresh food, the retreat’s restaurant serves up a wide range of international cuisine and tasty Indonesian specialties: make sure to sample the Udang Maluku—fresh grilled prawns served with a lentil & date salad & long bean nest—and the ‘Snapper Merah’—a fillet of snapper grilled, served with a mango sambal, grilled polenta, baby fern and accar. Treatment Program Along with an impressive yoga program which offers retreaters a wide range of yogic styles—including Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Ashtanga, Kundalini and Yin—Desa Seni is also home to Merapu Svaasthya Spa. Healing and health are the focus of the retreat’s wellness menu which offers traditional, holistic treatments along with a mix of Western and Eastern therapies designed to restore and revitalise body, mind and soul. Signature treatments include unique Balinese specialities such as ‘aura chakra therapy’ and ‘Melukat’ rituals (a sacred Balinese cleansing ceremony). Those keen to bend and stretch can embark on a private yoga retreat or attend Desa Seni’s annual yoga teacher training course, led by its resident teachers. The retreat also proffers a wide array of holistic workshops for spiritual seekers. Results Expect to feel…aligned with Bali’s magical energy upon leaving. This retreat is all about the relaxation, so while you can spend time on yoga and detoxing, the main purpose is centering yourself. “Rebecca Walker”

Rustic villas, comfortable beds, friendly staff and great yoga. The pool is lovely too. It is not your typical resort. It is quiet and peaceful, but in a great location so easy to get around if you want to explore more what Canggu and Seminyak have to offer.

Hello Spiesw, Thank you. It was great having you here and happy that you got to participate and be a part of our village resort. There is nothing typical about us, I agree. Quite happily agree. Our salt water pool is a favorite, and the best way to get a cool off in the tropics. We look froward to your next visit.

Arriving in Bali after a long flight I spent four nights at Desa Seni enjoying the lush gardens and pool, thoughtful design and services. It’s a beautiful retreat from the overdevelopment of Canguu and busy traffic and construction. The yoga classes are very good and the spa provides excellent treatments. Delicious food and comfortable accommodation meant I didn’t want to leave this charming retreat space.

Desa seni is an oasis in the heart of Canggu madness! This iconic resort continues to deliver a high standard of hospitality and an amazing vacation experience .The huge tropical garden , artfully designed and impeccably maintained provides a much needed escape from the chaos of the area. Everything you need is on one site! Excellent daily yoga classes in two outdoor yoga shalas to choose from, a delicious organic food menu in the delightful restaurant, a massive salt water pool one can actually swim lengths in! And big poolside lounge chairs and umbrellas , easy to spend a perfect day poolside after yoga and breakfast . The spa offers excellent massage and treatments. Desa Seni is a special place and highly recommended .

Am not sure if it's due to Covid-19 but I had a poor stay in this resort. It was severely overpriced at SGD373 per night with a room that was poorly maintained. It was extremely stuffy at night as the air-conditioner was not working well. The service staff was disengaged and ignored our requests. Front desk forgot our check-out time and we had to bring our own luggage to reception. The food was alright but not exceptional like what many of the reviews have stated. It's simply not worth the amount they are charging.

I planned to visit Bali islands for a holiday in Decemer 2023 with my 80 year old mother. From U.S, I booked this resort, Desa Seni after going through the reviews on the website of the resort. Most of them are praising the serenity of that place.I booked the resort for 3 days. The resort has lots greenery surrounding the cottages. The people taking care of it and working there are very polite and helpful. Yes, it is supposed give the guests the experience of an old rustic style of life with its own charm , different from the mechanical, chaotic urban way of life. Unfortunately, this resort has gone to the extreme to make the guests experience a primitive kind of life. The interior of the cottage is very shabby and depressing. The furniture look like ones that have been picked from the street discarded by some people, as useless and ugly.
The main door is rotten, weak, the windows are not latching properly , an open invitation to the tropical insects to enter into the room. The maintenance of the wooden partition, the doors , windows all are absolutely neglected; there seemed to have no effort made to paint once, on the very faded painting, without distorting the charm of the old original paint and the pictures. The floor is covered by a very old
torn and dirty mat, under that, the boards of the floor keep shaking while walking on it. My old mother had to balance herself carefully when she was walking inside room.
The rustic design of the bathroom is really pathetic. There is no washbasin in the bathroom , there is only a flat wooden slab under the tap, the guests are supposed to brush the teeth and spit on the slab or wash the face, water falling and scattering on the slab which spill over on the clothes of the guests. In fact, it is disgusting to spit and wash on the wooden slab which is flat, does not even have a small curve
like a sink, so that the water wont splash on the person once she or he opens the tap Another disturbing aspect is the tin they have kept near the toilet , to dispose of the tissues. It is small , rusted and looks like one which is discarded by a beggar as no longer useful for him as a begging tin.The inside of the room ,with the old faded and broken door and the dirty, furniture an eyesore, presents a very depressing ambiance , while resting in the room. to escape from the starching heat outside.
It is really atrocious that in the name of giving the experience of a rural, rustic life , this resort is kept in a pathetic and terrible condition, charge the tourist unfair amount to go through this very very primitive rustic experience, which can be experienced just by living in a tent in an open space, for lesser cost.

Hello and Happy New Year! Wow, is this ever out of left field. Not even sure what to say other than what a shame you did not say anything while you were here about such horrendous, depressing, faded, scorching, beggar, shabby, primitive, experience? Great word choices by the way, an expressive one. Wishing you the best, Thomas

Desa Seni is just paradise! The place is so well designed, with a lot of beautiful details, the rooms are nice, pool area amazing and the staff is soooo friendly. They know your name after day one and will help you with everything you might need. The food is so yummy (the smoothie bowl is a must!) and the two yoga shalas are just perfect with such nice energy. I especially enjoyed Wolfs classes. It’s not in the center of Canggu so you definitely need a ride (you do anyway when in Bali 😅) but they are building a sidewalk just now.
