We arrived late after a long drive up from P E and had booked bed evening meal and breakfast. We were surprised to find an acceptable meal ready for us served by a charming African lady-Vivien . Our room was very disappointing with old furnishings and the whole place very shabby. The room was very small as was the bathroom...

Mthatha seemed the obvious stop off between Port Elizabeth and Durban. Location is easy to find - you're almost out of the north side of the city when you get to the Big Five Guest House, and its just off the N2. Room was clean and we'd pre-booked dinner which was pleasant. My wife thought I'd failed to book an...

Very good rooms, quiet place and friendly staff. A confortable place with a good kitchen.. There is nothing around and there is not a hotel for spent the day. (Not a really garden or swimming pool) A very good and cheap place to rest.

Booked the accommodation through our travel agent - found it on Trip Advisor. You pay 1st then book - all hotels was fully booked. Rooms generally good, service was good, clean, friendly staff, safe & quiet. Breakfast served was good. Situated towards the Kokstad side of Umtata.

I recently had to stay in Mthatha for business and having not stayed at Big Five before, I was very sceptical. To my surprise, the rooms were neat and comfortable, the shower was spacious and most importantly the lady providing breakfast was sweet and accommodating.

We were really surprised, on the quality of the accommodation. We needed a stop over between Port Alfred and Margate and this seemed an ideal stopover, even though some reviews were not so kind to the property. The rooms are well appointed with plenty of room, all facilities available and more importantly it is clean, and for breakfast we had...

Its my 3rd stay here and look forward to coming again. Beautiful bathroom and very neat room. Feels like a hotel, not a general bed & breakfast. Service is excellent and staff always willing to help. Wifi speeds are not bad

The inside of this guesthouse is modern, super clean and has everything you need. I was a bit reluctant as i like privacy however the set up here is great, no issues at all. Shops are a walk away although the area doesnt seem like the best place to walk at night alone. Super friendly staff and a big comfortable...

This is a safe haven in the journey across the Transkei... my room was quite small, but had everything I needed for a good night's sleep, with a very comfortable bed and well presented bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. Very friendly staff and a good breakfast.

We stayed for 3 nights in March and found the guest house to be perfectly fine but short of good. The breakfast needs some work, i was served cold fish fingers one morning. The beds have bedside tables but no side lights so you have to get up to go and turn off the main light. There was supposed to...
