Dear Nkanyiso888 Many thanks for taking the time out to write such a wonderful review! I see that you have reviewed us on Hippo Hide's site rather than the Happy Hippo's? We are not worried as they both belong to us! Anyway, all is good and we are glad to know that you will be back! When you are here...

I stayed in Hippo Hide for 2 1/2 months while volunteering in Durban city. The staff were very accommodating and helpful to myself and the team whenever we needed taxis, extra blankets, queries about what to do in the city and general day to day enquiries. It was a fun way to meet new people as there were always backpackers...

I've stayed hear at least half a dozen times and I love it more each time. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the decor and rooms are lovely, great kitchen you can actually cook in and the location, while quiet is pretty ideal to explore Durban. If you want a good hostel for a good price I couldn't recommend...

Hippo Hide is a great haven in Durban. I stayed here for 9 weeks and had a fantastic time. The staff were helpful and really friendly, they spent a lot of time taking with us and solving all our problems! I stayed in one of the huts and it was beautiful! A little chilly in the middle of winter, but...

This place is amazing, everything is available. The staff have been very good. There are great views and a pool and a place to work or study. All the guests treat each other with respect and we even got to meet the owner Michellle, who was really friendly and helpful. Love Thandeka and Nonhlanhla

Better than it's sister hostel Happy Hippo. In a gated house, with dorms and rooms in the garden, and communal areas. Not close to much, and a very long walk to the beach. No lockers for valuables, you had to leave them with reception. I only stayed one night so not much else I can comment on.

Hello Victoria K, We obviously failed to meet your expectations with both our lodges, and that is a shame. I am not quite sure what you expect from a backpackers lodge, you were at Happy Hippo which 500 mts from the beach yet you leave that and go to our other lodge and complain that it is too far from...

We were only here for one night, but it was a good night. The dorm is very spacious and clean. Their wifi wasn't working when we were there but I am sure it is going to be fixed soon. I think there are a lot of people living there on a slightly longer term so we sort of felt a...

Hello Brijerydoo, Thank you for taking the time out to review or lodge, it always great to have some positive feedback on how the lodge is running. The wifi is now totally free for our guests and is running okay again. Long terms guests can become too comfortable sometimes, especially when there is a large group. This is something we...

The "campsite" here is a tiny patch of grass inbetween the pool and rooms with absolutely NO PRIVACY whatsoever and no space for more than one tent or two small ones literally side by side. So we opted to stay in a "private" double which was anything but - right next to the car spaces, we heard car doors slamming...

Hi Emmafu, Thank you for pointing out our problem with camping. We have at no time in eighteen years of trading claimed or advertised that we have a campsite. The service is only there for people trying to stretch their budgets. Your claim that you can only get two small ones side by side is fantastical at best as we...
