This place is horrible, I have no idea why they are taking people's money and calling themselves a hostel. The worst place I've stayed in 6 months of traveling. From the bed sheets to the bathrooms and kitchen everything is filthy. I complained about disgusting stains on the bed sheets in my room and was faced with a lady who... More

This hostel was the worst of my stay in Africa. The bathrooms were filthy, the rooms filthy, the staff unfriendly, and there were honest to god giant rats in the kitchen. I am easily pleased and enjoy budget backpackers but this place was absolutely awful. Stay away.

Not only was there mushrooms growing from my pillow but I just adored the old urine smell. Best part was 2am the building was invaded by a disability center who came late and who was obviously deaf to their own noise. My life flashed before my eyes at a stage.

It's very cheap to stay here and is not for everyone, however I found the staff to be very friendly. It's also like three blocks to the beach. I'm a bit of a "wild" traveler so I did not mind the place.

But then again - isn't this what we come to expect from backpackers!!! Am always pleasantly surprised when I find a great backpackers - but yeah this place was fun - met... More

We had the 'pleasure' of staying overnight in banana backpackers with a tour guide who was taking us up to mozambique the following day. All things considered it wasnt the worst place ive stayed. Its pretty noisy, dirty and smelly but for one night we were ok to put up with it.

I stayed here for one night, less than 12 hours as was leaving Durban early, and thank God. It looks like it was modelled on a thai prison, its dirty, smelly, noisy, the wifi doesnt work and the beds are horrible, I managed about 2 hours sleep as was constantly attacked by mosquitoes and woke up covered in small bites,... DONT STAY HERE (even if it's your only possible choice, you'd be better off finding a nice bench and setting up camp underneath it) From the minute we got here we were immediately uncomfortable. It was dirty and everyone stared at us female tourists. So creepy. Even the area it was located in was bad. Never stay in central Durban.... More
