We stayed two nights for the Comrades marathon, the owner was amazing. We were so happy to find how clean the property was, the pool was absolutely perfect (clean and nice hangout area). The owner was super helpful setting up breakfast before the race and I can't begin to name all the small things he did to make our race...

Fantastic place – excellent location and the bar and pool area are a fantastic spot to chill out. Its evident the owner takes a great deal of pride in this establishment – from his constant presence, to the general layout, decor and cleanliness of the backpackers. Hes also a great source of local knowledge for exploring the different sights Durban...

Morning Many thanx for the great review. It's encouraging to see that some guests appreciate all the extras we have on offer to make their stay a pleasant and memorable one. Our location is TOPS - close to everything a traveller requires. A good multiple day stop over to re-charge the batteries before exploring the rest what KwaZulu-Natal has to...

This is a real friendly and quiet place to stay. First thing, the staff was very helpful. They gave us many advices about Durban, things to see and things to do, where to go or not. As we had to leave early in the morning, they managed to give us a take-away breakfast and to keep our luggages. The room...

I stayed at Gibela for three nights in a single room. The place is beautiful, clean and situated in a nice area of Durban. I did however miss the friendliness, feeling of generosity and welcoming atmosphere that I highly value. I checked in early, but was not allowed to use the communal showers before check in time. Also, wifi is...

Hello Halmanna Many thanx for the review. We do take care in the upkeep and cleanliness of our lodge and even during busy periods as New Year time things was spotless (as all guests commented) I think its a bit unfair to reprimand us for not being able to use facilities before check in time. Great ambiance, real feeling of calm, got some incredible siestas in, loved the little touches, the deco, the pool ... Just exactly what was needed. Loved the fact that Gibela was close to Florida Rd, but not right on top of all the bars etc so it was easy to go out but also still protected and quiet. Close. To...

TOP CHOICE - Lonely Planet 2012 "If this hostel (a tastefully converted 1950's Tuscan home) were a B&B, it would be described as 'boutique'. One of Durban's best hostels, it has sparkling surfaces and rooms neat enough to pass an army major's inspection. It even provides a continental breakfast- to be enjoyed in an attractive indoor-outdoor dining area."
