This was our first visit to South Africa and we were absolutely delighted with the Castleburn Resort. We had been upgraded to a luxury Lakeside Lodge, so had fantastic views all day long. We were pleasantly surprised that the Lakeside Restaurant prices are very reasonable. The mark up on wine is minimal. We found the service to be good. The...

After three weeks in RSA we finally arrived at Castleburn for a two week stay. Wow and Wow again. The situation is simply staggeringly beautiful--and that is said with stays in the Rockies, Southern Alps and European Alps to form comparisons. Although only two of us "oldies" stayed we were upgraded by a really kind lady (you know who you...

We did not stay here this time, but had a great meal in the Lakeview restaurant when visiting from a nearby resort Lake Naverone. Friendly staff members were very helpful. I had one of the best beef curries ever, the burgers were great and the pasta was also very tasty. Visitors from Lake Naverone get 10% discount on meals in...

Spent a week over Xmas in a 3 BR chalet timeshare unit with a view of the main dam and the mountains! What a teat to awake each morning and see the mist lift off the back drop and the lake. On colder mornings it did look eerie when the lake appeared smoking! The grounds are kept meticulously and facilities...

Dear Traveller Thank you for your glowing review of our beautiful resort. I am so sorry to hear that you were not granted entrance to the Parks board hikes by the nearby resort, as these are simply breath taking, but the black Eagle Pass hike does start at Castleburn and is a good 7 hour hike. After this review I...

It was about 18 months ago that we had had a superb dinner at this friendly restaurant and we were not disappointed when we visited again. We stayed at Castleburn for 4 days in mid November in a 6 sleeper chalet overlooking one of the smaller dams. The chalet and grounds were impeccably well kept, the staff friendly and facilities were great. Access to the mountains and golf course through Drak Gardens was simple. In comparison to Drak Gardens, the resort is small but much better...

I stayed for a family holiday for 7 days with my father and 4 adult siblings. We shared a cottage on the lake with 2 double bedrooms and a 4-bed communal room. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the foothills of the southern Drakensberg nestles Castleburn a home to eland, reedbuck and 100 species of bird, who flock to the re-established wetlands. Spacious, thatched, architect-designed cottages, built of hand-hewn local stone, cluster around Lake Madingofani. Its shimmering surface reflects the rocky summits of the Garden Castle and is disturbed only by the breeze and the occasional trout jumping. The estate borders on a Natal Parks Board nature reserve, neighboring the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site proclaimed in year 2000 and the famous Giant's Cup hiking trail which passes through it. For chilly Berg evenings, the private, luxuriously furnished cottages have a stone fireplace; there is also an impressively equipped kitchen. A convivial lakeside clubhouse encourages friendly get-togethers. If you love peace and unpolluted air, bathing in crystal clear streams, fishing, riding, sailing, hiking, tennis, Archery, swimming.... You'll find the perfect holiday at Castleburn. The resort has wholeownership, syndication, timeshare, and fractional ownership options available on a shareblock basis. Castleburn is rated a Gold Crown resort by RCI. ... more   less
