We stayed at Castleburn for 4 days in mid November in a 6 sleeper chalet overlooking one of the smaller dams. The chalet and grounds were impeccably well kept, the staff friendly and facilities were great. Access to the mountains and golf course through Drak Gardens was simple. In comparison to Drak Gardens, the resort is small but much better...

Dear Traveller We will most certainly follow this up, as this is not our standards that we pride ourselves on delivering over the many years. Anele our assistant Restaurant Manager was present and assured me that he did meet with everyone that was present in the restaurant that evening, so I will have a word with him, however I am...

I stayed for a family holiday for 7 days with my father and 4 adult siblings. We shared a cottage on the lake with 2 double bedrooms and a 4-bed communal room. The thatched cottages are lovely - we had 42 which was on the main lake, definitely one of the nicer ones there. The cottage is well appointed, and...

Well provided accommodation, even down to a complimentary bag of wood for the fire. Situated in an area of breathtaking scenery. Pleasant and helpful staff. Sufficient activities to keep you occupied. Close enough to Underberg, Himeville and all the interesting surrounding areas, and eating places.

My wife and I spent a week at this spectacularly picturesque resort, exceptionally well run by Gwyn and Christelle. The clean chalet was well equipped and lacked nothing, even having a Weber barbecue. Although the nearest village, Underberg, is about half an hour away, there is ample to do and the restaurant is very good. The trout ponds are regularly...

Thank you for all your wonderful comments. We try keep the fish at pan size in the smaller dams so that we can stock with higher numbers and more people can get to taste a wonderful fresh trout. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the foothills of the southern Drakensberg nestles Castleburn a home to eland, reedbuck and 100 species of bird, who flock to the re-established wetlands. Spacious, thatched, architect-designed cottages, built of hand-hewn local stone, cluster around Lake Madingofani. Its shimmering surface reflects the rocky summits of the Garden Castle and is disturbed only by the breeze and the occasional trout jumping. The estate borders on a Natal Parks Board nature reserve, neighboring the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site proclaimed in year 2000 and the famous Giant's Cup hiking trail which passes through it. For chilly Berg evenings, the private, luxuriously furnished cottages have a stone fireplace; there is also an impressively equipped kitchen. A convivial lakeside clubhouse encourages friendly get-togethers. If you love peace and unpolluted air, bathing in crystal clear streams, fishing, riding, sailing, hiking, tennis, Archery, swimming.... You'll find the perfect holiday at Castleburn. The resort has wholeownership, syndication, timeshare, and fractional ownership options available on a shareblock basis. Castleburn is rated a Gold Crown resort by RCI. ... more   less
