Rather nice rest camp at the side of the Shingwedzi river. Wake up to the sound of hippo bellowing, lions roaring, elephants interacting with each other and the cherry on the top the roar of a lion when we were in the bird hide. Problem was it was too close for comfort so we beat a hasty retreat back to...

Second stop in Kruger, for one night. Reception was pleasant and did not take long to get keys and make our way to our BD2 Bungalow. Outside patio/kitchen set up with enough cutlery, crockery and pots for self catering. Microwave, hot plate, kettle and fridge. Comfortable beds, and the most modern accommodation of our whole trip. Spacious room with a...

We had an absolutely fabulous couple of days at Shingwedzi Rest Camp. The bungalows are extremely clean and all the "bits & pieces" (pots, pans, kettle, crockery, cutlery, spatula, grater, wine opener etc) were, where they should be, what a pleasure. Not to mention a clean dish swab, drying cloth and chopping board. Bedding was immaculate with very CLEAN comfortable...

We had a wonderful stay at Shingwedzi, the Camp itself is extremely well maintained, very clean and comfortable accommodation and a lovely pool to cool off in. We were very fortunate with our game viewing seeing lots of elephant, zebra, hyena, lion and lots of beautiful birds. Look forward to our next visit there.

Please read my reviews on Orpen Camp and Mopani Camp as the comments on the shop and FNB facilities are the same. Shingwedzi is a better option. The Tindlovu restaurant was the best we had been to for service and food quality, the views from the restaurant were ok. The rooms were bigger than Orpen and Mopani and more renovation...

For what we paid, and in the environment we were situated in, Shingwedzi offers excellent value for money - the only down side (for which we deduct one star, is the outlook from the bungalow - looking out over a patch of land without a blade of grass and lots of construction work plastic screening lying around...the bungalow is well...

Great place. North part of Kruger is always less crowded but honestly, I have no idea why is that so. I have been travelling to the north for second time, and both visits were really nice and game viewing was on par with famous south. On a plus side, there is a very nice pool in Shingwedzi, which also offers...

Shingwedzi is super, great modern accommodation with more space than other camps. Excellent pool and restaurant. There is a great deck on the river if you want to use it. This was some of the best game viewing we had and beautiful views. A visit to the north is highly recommended. It is not as crowed as the south even...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Shingwedzi lies in the northern part of the Kruger National Park in the heart of Mopane country. A scenic game drive along the Shingwedzi River in a southeasterly direction towards the Kanniedood Dam is one of the most rewarding drives in the Park. Waterbuck, nyala, kudu and elephant are often seen here and the bird life is prolific. Staying overnight at Shingwedzi is an experience that will last a lifetime. It is a rustic camp that still carries the essence of the bush and is untouched by modern technology. Experience magical evenings where the accommodation is arranged in two separate circles and the glow emanating from braai (barbecue) stands cast a tranquil spell. ... more   less
