The Onyx Hotel receives high marks for its exceptional service, with guests frequently lauding the staff's friendly and professional demeanor. The rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness, space, and comfort, although some guests feel the views could be enhanced. The central location is a hit for its proximity to city highlights and the waterfront, despite some concerns about safety at night.
While the amenities and atmosphere are well-received, the breakfast offerings may leave room for improvement. Overall, the hotel is praised for its value and inviting ambiance.

Detailed Reviews
Looked for ages for a reputable and comfortable hotel. Pleased to say we booked the right hotel. After checking in and being given a room on floor 4 I was a little skeptical given it was located above the bar/pool, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was.
The one exception is the lift bell..we were located right by the lifts. Literally every button press to call the lift or arrival to the floor was presented with this bell noise, completely unnecessary especially at 3am in the morning - please turn this off!
Breakfast was not clear, we were given menus with prices - despite having a buffet breakfast included - of course there was no cooked food in the buffet. Without clarifying the menu we assumed there was additional charge but at checkout we weren't asked to pay anything so assume it was all included - sneaky! Why not tell your guests the breakfast ala carte is complimentary in the room rate?
Everything else was spot on, comfortable and rooms well serviced. Housekeeping did a great job and despite a small safe in the room, our larger equipment was never at risk like some other reviews have suggested. The beds were comfortable and I had a nice sleep, would recommend to all.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 6 nights. The rooms were big, 3 toilets/2 bath, had a very functional kitchenette (fridge, microwave, dishes and cutlery, cookware, etc) . TV in every bedroom and the living room. Work table, dining table, and living room set.
The beds and pillows have the exact firmness. There was enough space to put in yor luggage and clothes,
The 4th fkloor had the spa/pool/gym (but we did not use these amenities).
Staff were really friendly and accommodating!
Thew breakfast, as reviewed by others was very good, a choice of cereals, yogurt, coffee (Americano, latte or capuccino). You can also avail of the main breakfast plates as well.
Cape town is a safe place to go around, people are friendly and can speak English very well!
I would give this a 5 star rating!

This is a fantastic hotel. It’s absolutely spotless, the rooms are very spacious with everything you might need and more. The service is outstanding from all staff, with a special shout out to Randall on the front desk, he was so helpful and friendly, one of the most charming men I have had the pleasure to meet. The breakfast is excellent and they even packed up a takeaway breakfast for us all when left at 4am. I can not fault this hotel, I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We really enjoyed staying at The Onyx Hotel! We were warmly welcomed by the concierge, who told us how to access the secure car park, and by the friendly receptionist. Our room was very spacious with a big comfortable bed, blackout curtains and a full kitchen including large fridge, microwave, cooker, crockery, glassware etc. Bathroom had a huge shower but otherwise was somewhat cramped. Breakfast was lovely, cooked to order and served by cheerful waitresses. We were a bit disappointed that our room only had a view of office blocks and a car park but this is a small niggle as we were out all day. Hotel had a lovely bar deck (with a view!) and a small heated plunge pool. Location is great for walking to the city sights or the waterfront during the day but is not really safe to walk around at night - anyway there aren't any restaurants nearby. It's a short drive to underground Silo/MOCAA waterfront car park or you can get an Uber at night. During the day, the red tour buses stop nearby. If we visit Cape Town again, we'd love to return to The Onyx!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on our trip to South Africa and enjoyed it very much.
We had chosen the studio type so inside we also had a small equipped kitchen; the accommodation was very comfortable, small but functional and the kitchen was also equipped with everything that could be needed for two people.
A room makeover service was provided every day and the reception was always available for every need; There is also a garage for those who, like us, arrive with rental cars.
The location is convenient for reaching the main attractions of the city, even if it is a predominantly office/business area; Near the entrance there are also two tourist bus stops that go around the city (convenient if you don't want to drive into Cape Town).
For shopping we loved woolwort (which reminded us of Australia) there are many of them in the city and if you travel by car they are all easy to reach.
In general the area is quite safe (but we never felt 'unsafe' anywhere in South Africa we visited, just be careful).

We visited the Onyx hotel on 22/06/2024 until 25/06/2024. On arrival the staff were all very friendly, they continued to be the same from start to finish. We couldn’t fault this hotel one bit. The rooms were spotless and all amenities were there too. We had a B&B stay. The breakfast was lovely, I’m a very fussy eater so I didn’t fancy what was on the menu so I asked for poached eggs and bread on the 3 occasions. It was cooked to perfection. On the last morning I didn’t fancy juice, only still water so my husband asked for some still water and we got it. We’d a lovely breakfast, left when we were done.
It was checkout time and we were paid in full. But then when our car arrived and we were in it a staff member came running out to us saying we owed them money. I felt so embarrassed. It turned out we hadn’t paid for the bottle of still water (that we thought was part of our breakfast)
In my opinion I thought it was so unprofessional for such a hotel.

My mom, daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at the Onyx hotel during our trip to Cape Town. I selected the Onyx because it was one of the few hotels that offered 2 bedroom apartment style accommodations. The hotel staff was very friendly and were very helpful and responsive to questions even prior to our stay. The staff helped me arrange a few tours before our visit. I thought the location of the hotel was nice as it was about a 12 min walk from the hotel to the V&A waterfront. It was also easy to catch Ubers to other parts of Cape Town (I.e., Sea Point, Clifton Beach, etc.. (FYI: Ubers in Cape Town will not pick up fares that are short distance, unlike other cities). The hotel itself was aesthetically pleasing and clean. There is a delicious Asian restaurant (delicious is actually an understatement) and a breakfast spot on site. The pool is not big but it’s nice as 1/2 of it is inside and 1/2 of it is outside. There is also a lovely spa and on our last day we had massages, facials and was provided sparkling wine during our services. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.

I recently stayed at the Onyx Hotel in the heart of beautiful Cape Town, and it was a delightful experience. The hotel's location offers stunning views and convenient access to the city's attractions. While the breakfast was a standard affair where you choose your dish, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cape Town

We found this place by accident as we were looking for accommodation for a family of four. There offer appeared to be very good value for money so we booked it for a three night stay snd did not regret it s single moment. The apartment with two bedrooms we had was nice and modern. The staff really attentive and extremely friendly. Breakfast at äMRKT was very good and consisted of made do order dishes and a buffet. Dinner at YU was fantastic. Drinks, Cocktails and food were excellent and very creative. Parking for our Van was offered for free in front of the hotel. The Onyx is in walking distance to the V&A and to Longstreet and downtown locations and certainly in reach of several 40 Rand Uber destinations. We found this place by far better than the price suggested and a warm-hearted wonderful Capetown alternative away from the beaten tracks.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a studio apartment and it had all we needed. Kithchen area, seating area and very comfortable double bed. Good size shower. Tea and coffee provided and refilled. Good view over modern city centre with Table Mountain behind. It is an easy walk to the V and A waterfront - about ten minutes. It is very handily placed for the Hop on Hop off bus tours (which are very good). We had breakfast included which was also very good - self service buffet and choice of a hot plate.
Be aware of walking anywhere. We were fine in daylight hours but the staff actually won't let you go out on your own after dark. We wanted to pop to the local conveience store - lieterally a few hundred yards - and they said an emphatic no! However the staff are fantastic and one of them actually walked there with us and made sure we were ok. Having said that Ubers are plentiful and cheap.
We ate in the resturant one evening and, whilst not as cheap as places on the Vand A, the quality of the food was excellent.
Really friendly helpful staff throughout and we would recommend it.

Dear Diana. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for your question the apartment has 2 bathrooms some of the units have 2 showers and some of the units have one Bath and the other bathroom will have a shower.
Dear Traveller, Thank you for your questions. The 2-bedroom deluxe units have 2 bathrooms in. The configuration differs from unit to unit. The main bedroom will always be en-suite.
It's better you use Uber, is quite cheap and safe as long you select the highest category service, juts for few more buck or Euros.
