Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront is frequently commended for its comfortable, clean rooms with scenic views, though some guests feel the rooms could be enhanced with additional amenities. The service is often lauded for being friendly and efficient, although there have been mentions of occasional lapses. While the rates are seen as reasonable, the 'Waterfront' moniker has led to some disappointment regarding the actual views and noise from the shipping area. Amenities such as parking, shuttle service, and breakfast are popular among guests, and despite cleanliness being a strong point, the hotel's location poses challenges due to the distance from local attractions and ongoing noise.

JD was very welcoming at reception. He even remembered our surname two days later; impressive! However, the cleaning staff has a long way to go. We were not satisfied with the cleaning of our rooms at all. In my room, the table had cleanable coffee stains, but it was not cleaned the whole week. You drop crumbs on the floor, they'll be right there when you come back. The mats in the rooms are not washed/vacuumed. Makes one wonder about the couches and the bedding. Our basin was not cleaned; it had traces of makeup everyday. Dirty towels aren't always replaced, even when you put them on the floor. I even called reception (no direct line to housekeeping) to ask them to tell housekeeping to clean our room but nothing changed. The cleaning staff is also the unfriendliest. The shiny taps are deceiving; the rooms are not cleaned properly.

On a positive note, the breakfast was great but more variety is needed. The following people were exceptional in their customer service: Yandiswa, the waitress, Yandiswa, the hostess, Vuyokazi (waitress) and Onelisiwe (pregnant as she is, she went above and beyond the call of duty). Thank you, ladies, yáll were AWESOME! Also, thanks to the elderly porter, very helpful.

It was our third stay at this relatively new hotel and it was really good to see that the hotel has not deteriorated at all. The room was in excellent condition and has all the modern amenities and comforts. Definitely the best rooms of any hotel in CT.

Our major concern during our latest trip was that of Covid and the hotel has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that a safe environment has been created including 2 sanitisers on every floor by the elevators as well as at the entrance and generally scattered throughout. The usual buffet breakfast was converted to an a la carte menu and the service and food was of an outstanding quality.

Thanks to all the staff for making it a memorable stay for our family and we will definitely choose to stay here in the future.

It is located on the harbor and next to the V&A and is very new. I booked an extra night with the hotel and asked in advance for a quite room trying to get some sleep in the early morning after my arrival, spending quite a bit of time traveling. They put me in a room next to the pool where sleep was impossible due to a very loud door that people were using to get in and out of the pool area. Had to change rooms twice. The beds are also not so comfortable. Arrangements for tours were also a bad experience. First day the called me at 21:50 to tell me that the tour for next day that they confirmed before was booked out. The next time I asked them I had to leave at 4:30 after they told me it starts at 7. Asked them to cancel it and instead go with another tour. Told them the company and the name of the guide. Got though another guide which I did not like as much.

I am a little late to post this but I would not want my unfortunate experience to go unannounced. I have been choosing Marriott for my business stays and have high status. I thought it would be a great idea to take my family here and enjoy a stay only for pleasure. During the reservation I have asked for an upgrade if possible or a bunk bed for my sister. Upon arrival everything seemed fine, when I entered the room the bunk bed was not placed and I called in. The bunk bed seemed fine only to fit a small person but my sister was okay with it. The first morning my sister specified she was not able to sleep because the bunk bed was so uncomfortable, when I tried it it was unbelievable it was like a rock. I went to the reception and asked if we could have another bunk bed, they said no this was the only kind they had. He went in talked to the manager, I asked if we could change our room to fit another bed and they said tonight the reservations were totally occupied and tomorrow they would be more than happy to help. The next morning I went up to the reception and reminded them jokingly saying "we had a bunk bed situation", " can you make sure our room is ready for tonight?", the receptionist named Muneerah without even listening to me, and in a very rude manner said that she had no idea and that it was not possible. I told her the manager was informed and if she could check that would be great. Then grabbed breakfast very quickly to attend our tour. We returned at 10 pm and stopped at the reception. The receptionist on duty were not informed and the night manager was not informed of the situation. I told them this was my third time explaining the situation and we needed to change rooms, they said they have no availability for the night. I told them that this was unacceptable and they help us at last our room being ready at 12 am and us having to move everything. They checked on us but there was no further apologies or any sort of cute gesture. In the morning I went to the manager to ask what the problem was her name was, Marelize ( if I am not mistaken with the orange hair ) she said she was sorry and that she would talk to find out where the communication issue happened I asked for Muneerah's name as by the time I did not know and she was not wearing a name tag, Marelize said that she couldnot provide a name in the end giving it in as by policy they have to wear name tags. Marelize told me that she should have had a name tag ( telling me that I ve seen wrong) which tomorrow again we saw she had not. I went up to Muneerah to let her know that she was very rude and that she took no action upon a request that was made and I needed to escalate this. I approached Marriott employees being honest and the next days of our stay because of this we did not even get a good morning from them, experiencing their attitude. Also it is important to mention that the general manager (David) was informed but never stepped down to oversee the issue or talk to us.
Because of my unfortunate stay I will do anything in my power not to stay and prefer Marriott Hotels for a while. I always had pleasant experiences and treated and was treated as family in my long stays. After staying over 200 + days in the last 1.5 years I will be switching my choice for business travels too after this experience we had to go through in Cape Town with my family.

We booked the AC Mariott in Cape Town's V&A for four nights. The hotel is perfectly located, only minutes away-walking distance from Cape Town's beautiful waterfront. The hotel also offers a complementary shuttle as an alternative. The hotel is new, modern, clean, fresh and well kept. Clearly reflected by the superb management. The rooms are spacious, convenient and the beds are super comfortable. We had a room on the highest floor with incredible views of the canal, pool and mountains. My boys had an equally nice room also facing the mountains. The rooms are well equipped with a bar refrigerator and a selection of coffee and teas. The staff is friendly, attentive and accommodating and the hotel offer excellent hospitality. Tiaan, front desk manager was awesome. I had been communicating with him directly when planning our holiday and he was informative, helpful and always very professional. He was welcoming upon arrival and accommodated all our of needs throughout the four nights, making our stay special, very positive, comfortable and pleasurable. The concierge was very helpful and informative and offered assistance on various organized and private tours. The breakfast was terrific, offering both buffet and a la carte choices and an abundant selection of items suitable for all diets and preferences. The restaurant was equally wonderful and the quality excellent. I would highly recommend the hotel for its simple elegance, quality and well managed, well rounded hospitality. I would definitely return. Excellent!!!

Stayed 5 nights on 4th floor as a Titanium member. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is okay; although it’s physically close to the Waterfront (very touristy), due to fencing, it’s a bit of a walk to get there (about 20 minutes at good pace). Hotel does have a free shuttle to the waterfront and also a Hop on hop off boat ride to the One and Only hotel near Waterfront. The breakfast buffet has a great spread with many plant-based options and a few cook to order options. The room is fairly quiet with comfortable bed and strong water pressure with hand held shower head with rain option. Tip: Uber is inexpensive and convenient to go anywhere.
Cons: Location is a bit away from shopping and restaurants, open showers can get bathroom floor pretty wet, TV was glitchy and didn’t work at times.
Overall, great place to stay when in Cape Town if you don’t mind the above cons and remember it’s mid-scale Marriott and not Premium or Luxury.

Dear sactokw, As a valued Titanium member, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience here on TripAdvisor. I am pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast offering and the plant-based options were to your liking. The canal cruise is certainly a unique way to visit the ever-popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, for those not wanting to do so on foot or with the complimentary shuttle, which runs at scheduled times. Overall, I am pleased that you found us a great place to stay, despite the shortfall with the television. Once again, I appreciate the time taken to share your review and on behalf of the team and myself, I wish you safe travels! Kind regards Carolyn J General Manager

We were a family of 4 and stayed for 8 nights over Christmas and it’s a holiday we will never forget. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We were very well looked after by Richard at the bar, he was definitely the greatest because of his knowledge of the wines and cocktails.

The staff at breakfast were outstanding. The choice of fresh food and choices of dishes that could be made was one the best we have experienced.

Great shuttle bus service - very handy.

Large and spacious rooms that were in impeccable condition

Safe and secure hotel

Loved the fresh lavender provided in the evenings

Freshly made cookies at reception

The BEST buttermilk chicken burger - ever!

25 mins from airport

Thank you everyone, we can’t wait to return.

Fabulous views of table mountain from our room.

The hotel has been open about 18 months I understand. Could not fault the hotel decor, service and food. It is located in the commercial harbour area so do need to take a taxi or complimentary shuttle to the V&A waterfront but it's a straight forward service. When booking it was about half third/half cheaper than hotels in the V&A Waterfront so for us was worth it to spend money on other things. The reception staff were so helpful in everything and are a real credit to the hotel. The room overlooking harbour was not the best view very spacious room and well appointed. Would stay again but could get hotel in the actual V&A Waterfront I would if same price which is probably unlikely. Make sure you know where it is, we spent about an hour trying to find it, you need to go into Convention Centre go access it.

As a Titanium we see many Marriott properties and this hotel is a really good one. The staff are fantastic and are always looking to make your stay better. The hotel is new (and reopened again after covid in May 2022) and the rooms were a good size with a pretty view of Table Mountain. The breakfast buffet had a great variety with a few changes to the menu daily. The outdoor pool area was nice but we weren`t brave enough to try the water but it was warm enough for a relaxing drink. We utilized the free tickets for the canal boat shuttle to the V&A Waterfront and it was a calm 10-15 minute trip.
I read the reviews regarding finding the hotel and we also struggled to find it as there seems to be new streets where the hotel is situated, I "dropped a pin" on my smartphone while at the location and after that it was super easy for directions

This is a very nice (new) hotel close to the downtown and Waterfront area. A twenty minute walk to either location (not an easy walk) - they do have canal water taxi service available to take you to the waterfront. Definitely worth the experience. The breakfast service is delightful but can get crowded at times due to their catering of large tour groups. Rooms are nice, AC unit works very well, showers hot, tv selection extensive, and service awesome. Recommend for those looking for a very nice hotel at a reasonable rate. One downfall to the hotel / location is that is bucks up to the container / shipping area so when vessels come in you will hear a lot of container unloading noise at night. Ask for an "even" numbered room so you are on the opposite side and you get a view of Table Mountain
