I am writing this review after another excellent stay at the Mount Nelson Hotel. The property has everything you could wish for, not only in amenities and location but most of all in the staff who are so genuinely kind and cannot do enough to make your stay memorable. While reading this review, bear in mind that it is much easier for a hotel to excel just for a night or two however when a guest stays for nearly a month which we did, it is very different. I can honestly say that the Mount Nelson excelled for our entire stay in every way. Our booking was dealt with by Eugenia in Reservations who was very efficient in responding and organising everything for our trip including picking us up from the airport. Before we arrived, we were in touch with Lorenzo in concierge who made some great restaurant and bar suggestions as much has changed since Covid and made our advance bookings for us. Once we arrived, Lorenzo, Kimberley and Muchi were always on hand to rearrange things and suggest new alternatives when our plans changed. From check-in Emma, Happy and the reception team always greeted us with a smile and assisted with additional requests. Breakfast is a veritable feast with both buffet and a la carte options which are extensive. Every morning we were taken care of by Chris, Nicky, Zodwa, Emily and Tammy. It was lovely to hear the team talking to guests at breakfast and taking an interest in their plans for the day. You have the choice of two pools, one which is adults only and the other which is larger and set in the main gardens. We prefer the larger pool and were very well looked after by Portia, Masi and Lucan. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they were always checking in on us throughout the day. The Planet Bar has always been the hub of the hotel and Benson does an excellent job ensuring its smooth running with a great team around him including Simi. During our stay we renewed our wedding vows which Louise in the Events Department supported us with both pre-arrival and with the final touches when we were at the hotel. She was an excellent communicator and made the whole process so easy. Sammy and his team looked after us perfectly on the evening and even organised some extra flowers from the gardens to put on the table. Each morning we saw Willie the gardener and his team who do a phenomenal job with the beautiful hotel gardens. They always had a smile waiting for us and if you ever want to know about the flowers or plants, they are the ones to ask! Willie was even kind enough to lend me some wire and cutters to put together a small flower bouquet. And finally the Guest Experience Team - Busi, Gareth and Clement who always caught up with us each day made our stay extra special in so many ways with their attention to detail, extra touches and thoughtfulness. You are an exceptional team and we cannot say thank you enough.…
Everything about Mount Nelson was fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really special, we were welcomed as if we were returning friends. Our room was beautifully furnished and absolutely spotless. The hotel and gardens are beautifully laid out with many of the trees over 100 years old. We ate dinner every night in The Lounge as the food was so fresh and delicious and the menu changed almost daily. Our waiter most evenings was Andrew and he was very attentive and knowledgable about the dishes on offer. Spending lazy afternoons by the pool looking up at the backdrop of Table Mountain was almost surreal. Our pool attendants and servers, Lucian, Bongile, Thando, Precious,Portia, and Thabisa were always on hand with drinks, snacks, friendly conversation and local knowledge. Our trip to Cape Town was a lifelong dream made extra special by our week at Mount Nelson. PS. I must mention the breakfast buffet which was phenomenal.…
The Mount Nelson is in the best location in Cape Town in beautiful spacious gardens with two excellent swimming pools, tennis courts, spa and fitness suites. Afternoon tea is particularly popular. Public gardens and museums leading to the Parliament and Cathedral are on one side of the hotel and a quirky street with numerous restaurants and bars on the other side.
What a fabulous hotel, set in beautiful gardens with wonderful, helpful and friendly staff. Immaculately clean bedrooms with the finest bedding and comfiest of mattresses. The breakfast menu and buffet is out of this world and certainly sets you up for the day ahead. The hotel is a must for anyone visiting Cape Town.
The Mount Nelson is the type of hotel that dreams are made of. I enjoyed a week stay that can only be described as magical. The building, grounds, pool, and garden are all beautiful and extremely well maintained. All the staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping personnel, are extremely attentive. The wait staff in the restaurant and bar areas provide exceptional service.
Best hotel in the world. Like a dream house. Didnt want to go back home. I slept well, eat well and had a wonderful time. Would love to come back if I have the oppertunity. Clean and just a wonderful time at Mount Nelson!
Another first class experience. We love it. What makes the Mount Nelson so special is its staff. If you are looking for total relaxation in Cape Town, with traditional great service with a smile then this is the place for you. Whether on business or pleasure, the pool area at the Mount Nelson is outstanding. Exceptionally comfortable loungers with thick mattresses and plenty of parasols and towels. Beautiful breakfast area overlooking the lodge pool area, surrounded by grass and beautiful gardens. Special mentions for Busi, Wiseman, Inga and the wonderful lady who was making fabulous eggs at breakfast every morning. Can’t wait to return.
What a classic establishment!! A classic olde world hotel. Amazing staff, amazing facilities, amazing gardens, heavenly breakfasts!! (Try the eggs benedict!!) Two beautiful (heated!!) swimming pools, lovely tennis facilities. Great location, with Table Mountain providing a magnificent backdrop!!
We stayed in this beautiful hotel for 3 days and left our hearts there ♡ wonderful staff, excellent service...the location was perfect and the rooms were amazing. we enjoyed every moment at this hotel. Front desk staff was way more helpful and the concierge was very friendly and informative. We would definitely stay in this hotel in my next visit to Cape Town. I would like to thank Moschi (hope i spelled it right) from concierge and to housekeeping for their lovely gesture.
I have stayed in a few amazing hotels in my time, but this one is now our favourite. Apart from being a beautiful hotel, perfectly appointed, the standard of staff attention to detail was beyond anything experienced before. Genuinely happy staff, eager to please. I always look at the worst reviews to see what someone could possibly complain about. I am amazed that someone posts that an orchid in the room was dead and posting a picture! And that there was (apparently) no international adapter (the response said it was in fact in the wardrobe). Is that really what a bad review requires? Anyway, everything for us was perfect. We had no orchids; but no problem with international adapters. Everyone from the guy who delivered the coffee in the morning to the staff who delivered an engagement ring to my now fiancée at dinner was amazing. A late checkout to accommodate a late flight was not a problem after a bit of shuffling of the rooms; celebratory bottles of champagne kept coming; cheery "good morning"s every day, addressing us by name, genuine interest in our holidays. The breakfast was a sight to behold. Oysters anyone? Champagne? A thousand different ingredients for breakfast on display..... This hotel is one of a dying breed I fear. A historic marvel, in a stunning location, perfectly run and managed, with amazing food. Thank you Nellie for a magical experience that will never be forgotten. Special mention to Bussi ("She said YES!!") for taking the time to have a laugh with us. …
