Most of the staff are probably the hotel's greatest asset. They were generally accommodating but slightly lacking in either initiative or autonomy. I emailed the hotel beforehand and enquires about an upgrade. They said they couldn't do it and I would have to do it through my travel agent. Upon arrival, they showed me their "show" rooms as I enquired...

I stayed here while attending a conference and it was a perfectly acceptable hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The place was clean and the location is great. I only have two complaints. The doors make a lot of noise when they shut - even if you are trying to be quiet. There was also a dearth of...

Clean. Good service. Friendly Staff. Best part is the location. Centrally located between the University of Cape Town Business School and the Waterfront. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, & attractions.

On arrival our booked double room turned out to be a twin. At reception they tried to say that booking through some other agent meant that they could not guarantee you would get the room you booked. Eventually they did adapt the room to a double, why couldn't this have been done without argument? Having visited here a few years...

The staff throughout the hotel were good, did they jobs right, but didn't really show an interest in going the extra mile for the guest, who knows if they acted this was to us though since we were a group of 30 college students. The rooms were nice, but the location was definitely the best part of this hotel. Right...

Portswood Hotel in Cape Town, 22nd – 25th may 2015 I am a travel agent who creates and escorts groups to Africa I originally wanted to book the Commodore Hotel, which is a sister property and right next door to the Portswood, though was told that the Portswood is much better and is probably the best hotel in Cape Town....

Dear Guest, It is with great regret that we read of the terrible experience you had during your most recent stay with us at the PortsWood Hotel. I assure you that we are proud of the service we deliver to all our guests and what you experienced is certainly not our usual standard and also not in line with the...

I stayed at the Portswood hotel for the first time during a recent business trip. I found the hotel to be quaint and newly renovated. The rooms have been redone and are comfortable. Staff are well trained and hospitable. Being in walking distance to the waterfront is a plus! There is no gym but you may use the facilities at...

Stayed at this property for 3 nights and I must say, this is definitely value for money. Rooms are more than comfortable, and the location is superb. You can literally throw a stone to the V&A waterfront. Everywhere I walked, there were security guards and that was important. Breakfast was ample. If a good sleep is all you require after...

This is definitely worth a look when traveling to Cape Town. It is a 5 minute walk to the Waterfront, so location is ideal. Staff are super friendly and helpful and it costs much less than you would expect. We only ate breakfast there, which was more than okay. Not the best breakfast I've had, but nothing wrong with either...

The Hotel at the price point I was looking at is quite decent. Its conveniently located 2 mins from the V&A waterfront. Hotel provides free parking as well. The advantage that you get is purely the location as the V&A waterfront's night life is amazing. Quite safe even post 9 pm. Breakfast was quite average in fact disappointing for vegetarians....
