A bit of a late review. We stayed at Derwent House for 3 nights mid April, the first hotel at the start of a special birthday trip for my husband in Africa. We were warmly greeted by Vuyo who made us feel so welcome. Our room was decorated with birthday banners and a card, signed by all the staff, along...

Our stay at DH was wonderful. The rooms are comfortable and after a busy day, we enjoyed quiet evenings on the balcony overlooking the pool or sitting by the pool while sipping a glass of south African wine. The lounge is beautifully decorated with south african art. The proprietors and their staff were extremely helpful no matter what we had...

It is rare to meet travellers with as much enthusiasm and energy as you, Ruzena -- you certainly made the most of your short time here with us, most notably, your impressive ascent up the mountain in record time! And I doubt there was a corner of Cape Town you did not cover on foot, testament indeed to how centrally...

Stayed at Derwent House for three nights in early May. Despite my group being very disorganized, Anahid and Armin were extremely accommodating and hospitable, and secured us space at the last minute. And we're so glad they did, as the hotel is fantastic top to bottom. The pool area is great, rooms are well appointed, and the common areas are...

Danke vielmals, Nathalie -- we miss you at Derwent House after your long stay with us! Glad you appreciated our suggestions and arrangements for you, especially the wine tour (all our favourite stops) and Roger. Indeed Gardens is a fantastically central address for exploring Cape Town -- and you two now know the Kloof Street restaurant scene better than we...

The Derwent house team were incredible: each and every one of the staff members we met was so nice and super helpful, proactive but not over-bearing, and they made sure that every little detail of our stay was perfect, from suggesting restaurants, booking them for us, our route to Franschhoek, MCC in the hot tub :), to offering to chase...

Merci, MaudTA, for your generous commendation of our team -- they really do go the extra mile and we do believe that it's our people that make Derwent House different, being helpful without being in the way. I'm only sorry that our influence with Mother Nature wasn't enough to get you paragliding (we'll have to work on that 😊). You'll...

A must stay if you're visiting Cape Town. Fabulous location and view (especially if you book one of the rooms with a view of Table Top Mountain). Only minutes to very cool restaurants, produce stores, and coffee shops too. The hosts are extremely welcoming and helpful, and happy to pass on lots of local knowledge and tips. I loved every...

I cannot talk up this hotel enough, we stayed for 3 nights at the end of a one month trip around Southern Africa, and Derwent was a highlight. The hotel itself is very nicely appointed with a nice lounge and good sized plunge pool and a hot tub. The rooms are not huge but have everything you need and are...

This is really a top notch hotel. It has a boutique feel, yet the service is just as spot on as a larger hotel. Room was very clean and comfortable. The managers, Luca and Willem, were very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Excellent breakfasts as well.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you! ... more   less
