I might be a little churlish here, but I don't think, in my opinion, this hotel warrants the monicker "luxury". It is good, no doubt about it, but luxury implies a faultless experience beyond criticism. So, what's wrong with it? Silly things that spoil the experience, at least they did for us. For starters, the the kettle in our room... More

Beautiful room very well equipped. Tasty and plenty-full breakfast. First class attentive staff who made us feel very welcome. Disappointed no whales in Hermanus but the great white cage diving nearby more than made up for the lack of whales. Our stay was short but nevertheless fantastic. Only note is that the walk into Hermanus is 40 minutes but amazing... More

It was the second time that we stayed at the Whale Rock Lodge, a footstep away form the New Harbour. Now for two nights and two days filled with wow's and oh's and ah's. To put the first misunderstanding right: Hermanus is not only whale capital but also a very interesting summer holiday, beach accommodation town. Staying here for just... More

The rooms in the lodge are big enough to spend time there. There is at least one room with four beds and recommended for families. The pool seems dirty at the ground and internet via WiFi was not always available or fast. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly. The prices of the bar were also good.

We drove from Cape Town to Hermanus in the hope of seeing the whales and decided on this luxury lodge as it was close to the harbour but just a few minutes drive from the main town. We were welcomed by a great young Dutch guy who knew pretty much everything we wanted to know, and also suggested places to... More

It was a very nice stay in Whale Rock Luxury Lodge. Especially the receptioniste Melissa was very friendly and helpfull. She knows a lot of the accommodation and the things to do in the area. She is a great accession for this lodge and in the future she becomes a very good manager.

First class. We were looked after extreamly well. Advice on whale watch and view points were much appreciated. The breakfast set you up for the day ahead. Lovely staff. Room size very generous and very well appointed. Would not hesitate to recommend, you will not be disapointed.

We were recommended this lodge by a friend who had stayed there 20 years ago and it has changed. Since their stay a harbour has sprung up in front of the lodge so there were no sea views and there was a township just down the road. We were recommended not to go out walking after 6 at night which... More

Thank you for taking the time to do a review. With regards to the New Harbour, this became operational in the 1950s already, so has been part of the Westcliff suburb for a long time. There is exciting news of developing this Harbour into a recreational and tourist attraction, which will be a huge boost for Whale Rock Lodge. Township... More

Lovely looking secured property with fresh clean interiors and welcoming staff. Slightly outside of the town centre but next to the harbour which has a fantastic sushi and seafood restaurant and is the departure point for many of the whale boat trips. Hotel feels like a calm oasis, bed was super comfy and the complimentary welcome drink was well received... More

When you stay in a "luxury" lodge you don't expect to find the previous occupant's empty wine bottles and other rubbish in your bedside drawer. Nor do you expect to have to go hunting for pool towels. But the room was quiet and comfortable, the breakfast fine and the staff helpful. We found Whale Rock a little impersonal and lacking... Good Morning and thank you for your review. We strive to ensure that our rooms are always spotless on check in but unfortunately, in this instance, we were completely at fault with neglecting to notice a wine bottle left by a previous guest, in the bedside drawer. We will be doing our very best to ensure that something like this... More
