Oudtshoorn is not a place most people stop for more than one night, and we mistakenly followed the herd. Even if you did stay longer, it would not be lounging by the pool as there are so many distractions (wildlife, caves, great views, waterfalls, farms and nearby towns). If you were to stopover longer than an overnight stop, as I... More

Oudtshoorn is a lovely place to stay with plenty of things to do and see in conveniently close locations. Huw and Zoe (Thomas) were friendly hosts and they could not have been more helpful in providing advice, information and booking restaurants and trips/activities. The breakfasts were great, the rooms were comfortable, well equipped and spotless, and the laundry service was... More

During our 3 week adventure in South Africa we stayed a real mix of accomodation and this property was by far our favourite guest house. Huw and Zoe are fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome and at home right away. Having a cold beer on the porch while Huw took us through the highlights of the area was... More

Oudtshoorn is the perfect place for various sightseeing spots such as the ostrich farm or the caves. All is conveniently located within a few miles of the guest house. Zoe and Huw were happy to give us recommendations - thanks to them we got to see our first hippo on the trip. :-)

Run by a welshman Huw and his south african wife Zoe. Both were extremely friendly and extremely helpful. When we arrived, we had drinks offered and they went through options for things to do in Oudtshoorn and offered us discounts for the popular places as well which came in handy. They provided us with menus for local restaurants and made... More

Most people go to Oudtshorn for the caves & the ostriches ! We had a lovely welcome and they are both very enthusiastic about what do do depending our time frame. Room was nice and bed comfortable

Zoe and Huw are very hospitable and good hosts, and the breakfasts are great. Zoe recommend restaurants and booked tables for us. Wireless internet worked well, but only from the main house. We did the Swarterg pass, and would highly recommend a visit to price Albert !

Just wanted to add my comments to the excellent reviews already received - knowing that it's the most recent reviews that are often the most useful. Had a wonderful couple of days at 88 Baron von Reede and yes, Zoe and Huw are the perfect hosts. Helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Without their recommendations, we would never have enjoyed... More

Other reviewers have said it all. What really makes this place special are the hosts Huw & Zoe. Loads of helpful friendly advice and chat without being overwhelming. Oudtshoorn is a little known gem ouside South Africa. A wide variety of interesting sights and experiences all within a days travel. I thought the Swartberg pass was fantastic (my wife is... More

We stayed in Oudshoorn for two nights in october. We enjoyed the 88 Baron von Reede guesthouse a lot. The reception by Huw and Zoe was great, with a cold beer and the best travel tips. There are several good restaurants at walking distance, recommended and reserved by Zoe, almost without asking! The rooms are well furnished and quiet. They... More
