Our door is always open to welcome those who arrive with the same joy with which we would run to our grandparents arms when we were little. Our grandfather, an "old sea dog", Joaquim Modesto de Brito, known to all as "the champ", was the foundation of this project. So many memories inhabit these walls and grounds that we, the grandchildren, couldn't allow them to get lost. This is how Casa Modesta Awards: Condé Nast Johansens Awards 2017 - Best Green Practices (Europe and Mediterranean) Habitar 12-14 (Ordem dos Arquitectos)

We had a wonderful three day stay at Casa Modesta. Carlos and Nuno and the team were so wonderful (thank you) and we have to say the food in particular was amazing. Definitely the most heartfelt food with incredible three course dinners that were creative, fresh and delicious - we went back even when we weren't staying there - the best food we had in Portugal and my wife is a foodie. The breakfasts were also incredible. The whole set up is very designer-y and the rooms very cleverly designed. There is a big garden and an indoor main room. We were there in winter so a little more time was spent inside and the only thing i would say is there isn't much lounging space. Fuseta nearby is a charming fishing village with a main square that has a number of really nice, local restaurants. We went to Capri the most. It is walkable by day and there are wetlands to enjoy near the Casa. Olhao is also a lovely town to visit nearby. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Casa Modesta is a beautiful and well considered hotel. The design is very nice and although the rooms are small we were very comfortable. Carlos made us feel very welcome as did the rest of the staff who prepared us a special meal for the New Year's Eve and were there to take care of us through the lockdown we were experiencing. The surrounding area and nature walks were extremely beautiful. I'm sure we will visit again.

Nice buildings, concept, design and marketing but the hotel is in a residential area with a lots of neighbors And not the lost heaven as pictured on the website. The host is not nice when you ask for something that is not standard like dropping the luggage at noon. The room is ok not big but the heater or air conditioner is just behind your head and makes an incredible noise. Impossible to sleep when it’s on. The worst is the dinner... Looked like dog rice with tiny pieces of octopus and tasted very basic... For 45€. There are amazing restaurants in Olhao where you eat wayyyyyyy better and cheaper. Also you need a car or taxi to move around, it’s far away from everything.

Response from Carlos Fernandes, Proprietário at Casa Modesta
Responded Dec. 10, 2020
Dear Cecile, Our menu is made with fresh and daily ingredients and we had all the hotel having dinner on the same day as you and all reviews was good except yours. We had a huge list of restrictions told by you (only when we asked about any food restrictions) and the information that you’ve been in a strict (and tricky) diet and we only served the ingredients that you asked us for. Our cuisine is based on the local traditional gastronomy (like octopus rice) and the mediterranean diet, much appreciated by most of our guests so, we’re sorry that our concept food doesn’t correspond to your expectations. About the luggage, due to covid19 we have restrictions to protect us, our guests and team, we all should respect and we opened an exception for you as you know, we are flexible. We are in the nature park of Ria Formosa country side, we have neighbours from long time ago and we are very proud to share the experience with all of them. Some of our neighbours produces fruits, some feel very happy when guests talk with them and they like to share, all good people but as you stayed only one day maybe you didn’t understand the social dinamics. As you departed at 5am we didn’t had oportunity to say good bye. Thank you for letting us know about the air conditioned, we’ll check with our tecnitian and sorry for the invonvenience. If is anything we can help, just let us know. All my best, Carlos NOTE for future guests: Dinner will be served when booked until one day in advance and consists in a blind/surprise menu with start + main course + dessert. Drinks not included in the price. Please inform us all your food restrictions in advance. We love to cook for you.

Good design Carlos and his team aim to please but it soon becomes apparent they try to extract as much money from their guests in every way. Nothing comes free not even water beside the bed. The beds are super uncomfortable and the rooms so small. The pool is a plunge pool and there are no grounds. Its ambitions are way beyond what they achieve. Its prices are far more than what they should charge. We are seasoned travellers and have stayed in may place in the Algarve.
