We only stayed for a night at Hotel Babel. The location is perfect for exploring San Telmo and even Puerto Madero. I loved the tastefully decorated lobby and in overall the adaptation of an old house into a hotel.

This is only a few blocks from the Mercado and Plaza Dorrego. The front desk staff were exceptional: friendly, helpful, and informative. Our room was quiet and had a comfy king size bed. I found the historic connection (see foto of sidewalk plaque) to the...More
We spend 2 nights at Hotel Babel. The room was nice, a little loud, but that's ok for the centre of a big town.

I have to admit that my first impression of this hotel, arriving late at night, wasn't overwhelmingly positive. However, with daylight and a necessary room change due to a missing air con remote, I found its charm. It is indeed an older building with character....More
Comfortable place in a great location. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and the rooms were clean and tidy. Definitely a good option if you're looking for a stay in San Telmo! They provide a basic breakfast, good reliable wifi.

Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique
shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
