Our family stayed at the Alvear Palace Hotel and loved every moment of our 4 nights.
Old world glamour with first class service. Breakfast in the glassed in conservatory was a treat with the most delicious buffet offering everything any one could want. By day the bar in the foyer is a great place to people watch with a sandwich and later on have a pre dinner drink before going to the Alvear Grill. We ate out a lot but the Alvear Grill was the best meal we had in Buenos Aires . Rooms are beautiful with Hermes toiletries and even your laundry arrives wrapped in tissue paper in a box! The front desk was extremely helpful with restaurant tips, flight reservations and directions. Truly wonderful!

The hotel is grand, porters are greeting you immediately you arrive, suitcases are dealt with promptly. The reception area is quite stunning, gold and marble decorate the whole area.

We arrived ahead of the 3pm check in, and thanks to the receptionist , we were found a room. A little disappointing as the room looked straight out onto air conditioning units and apartments.

I had emailed the hotel a week prior to our stay, mentioning this was a special occasion for my husband who was celebrating his birthday, this was acknowledged by an auto reply, but then heard nothing. On check in nothing was mentioned.

The service here is a little haphazard, the first night we received no turn down, the next morning we were left off the list for a make up of the room. That evening we did receive a turn down with fresh towels. The next day were left off the room make up facility. Retiring to bed, we were woken up at 10pm by our room bell, with the staff wanting to tidy the room!! I’m afraid that really is too late.
Breakfast was plentiful, the waiters cheerful and helpful. It is a buffet, there are the usual bacon, scrambled egg, but nothing is cooked to order. Fresh juice and leaf tea is served, excellent.
We choose to have dinner in the lobby as the other restaurants were closed. The service here was a real problem, only 2 waiters were on, we actually gave up on ordering a dessert. I really feel they need to look at this, as it was quite annoying.
All these matters are tiny, but when you are staying at a five star hotel with prices to match, there is an expectation to live up to.
We did eat in the grill restaurant, and I have to say that was perfect. Food was exquisite, beautifully cooked, fantastic service.
I’m very pleased we stayed here, all in all 9/10

Had a wonderful 3 night stay at Alvear Palace enjoying old world service with modern luxury. A very welcoming reception at check in, plus helpful staff with luggage and description of room amenities. With housekeeping staff attire including aprons and bonnet, the entire hotel team are immaculate, and deliver a high standrad of service. Corridors are wide, rooms spacious and with plenty of cloth hanging space. Wifi was excellent in room and all hotel areas. Gym and spa facilities also high quality. Located walking distance to many city atrractions but with little street noise, we could enjoy the various dining options within the hotel, or easily venture to nearby establishments. Highly recommend for a quality city stay for business or pleasure.

We had booked into the Alvear Palace for 3 nights in BA at the end of our trip through South America. Unfortunately, this coincided with the start of the lockdown in Argentina and the unprecedented times we are currently in.
We were picked up from the airport by the pre arranged and charming driver to take us to this ‘sanctuary’. Upon arrival we were told we could not stay there and we had to make alternative arrangements. No warning, no email and very little help. We had been in Chile and apparently they could not accept us! We later learnt that this was their policy and not a universal policy.
Shocked and unsure what to do in this unfamiliar city, we asked if they’d at least let us sit and try to find accommodation. At no stage did they show any empathy to our situation nor really try to assist. This is not a cheap hotel and at least we feel happy now that they did not receive our hard earned money.
Obviously, a little stirred by our worried demeanour, one member of staff suggested we go to the Hilton where they understood we would be accepted. We did go to the Hilton and the wonderful, helpful and caring staff all welcomed us and went on to assist us to make arrangements to leave Argentina.
To add insult to injury, we were charged for the coffee and croissant we had whilst we were desperately trying to organise some accommodation and USD50 for our ride from the airport to their hotel!!! Nice!!
When we return to Buenos Aires, we certainly will NOT be staying at this hotel.

Dear Cerys M: Thank you very much for your feedback concerning your arrival to our establishment on March 17, at the peak of the virus scare. The circumstances were terribly difficult for everyone all over the world, but your review clearly shows our service upon your arrival was not up to this challenge. We plead guilty to this mishandling of the situation and present our formal apologies for this fact. Allow us to explain what the situation was at that time for our establishment: 1) By government mandate, if we received any guests, they were supposed to stay for the full two-week quarantine period and were NOT allowed to leave the hotel at all during that time. In fact, a police van was parked outside, to enforce this order. 2) While it is true we were NOT obliged to close our establishment, we felt our valued guests would find the above situation unacceptable and decided it would be better for all concerned to close our hotel until we were able to operate normally. Yours respectfully,

We stayed four days at the Alvear Palace Hotel after our South America cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the location, service and food. It is conveniently located close to attractions and good cafes/restaurants. For breakfast, it offers a nice variety of fruits, breads, and cold cuts, in addition to scrambled eggs, sausages, sautée veggies and potatoes. Room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. The personnel at Concierge were nice and very helpful. When I asked about where I can take a PCR test for the flight back to the USA, they said they can send a lab technician to our room for $8,500 pesos per person (about $85 US dollars) paid in cash. That was very convenient! For the fee, you can choose to have an antigen (get immediate results and the lab certificate in 2 hours) or a PCR (get the lab certificate in 6 hours) via email. You can print the results in the hotel's business center. During our stay, Israel's Vice-Minister was also staying in our same floor, so security was tight but we felt safe. Overall, a very good experience at Alvear!

The hotel's reputation is excellent and definitely caters to the high end crowd. Overall it was a wonderful stay and a fantastic hotel. The staff were the best that I have ever encountered, courteous, friendly, and extremely helpful. The size of the rooms were large and comfortable.

The only concerns that I had include that the hotel while historic had a shabby chic feel to it. The fixtures in the bathroom were older with the gilt rubbing off, cracks in the sink, not enough light in the shower - it was like showering the dark, a coating of dust on the fixtures and decor in the room, and lastly there were stains on the furniture and bed coverings. Lastly, caution if ordering any food from the main cafe of the hotel. It took forever for our food to arrive that we actually questioned whether they had to source it from outside of the hotel. We ordered sandwiches and empanadas that took over 1 hour for us to receive.

The location of the hotel is extremely desirable in the heart of Recoleta and so near to the famous cemetery, leather & high-end shops, as well as trendy eateries. Additionally, it near the oldest Gomera tree in BA as well as local craft stalls.

Through our agency we reserved a "premier" room for four nights. We were give room 535 which was such a disappointment. Small closet situated against the bed. When the closet door was open you could not pass by the bed (see photo). Terrible view and for seats a desk chair and a small folding chair in the closet.
After breakfast we confirmed that we had a "premier" room.
Then we explained the situation to our guide. She insisted that we changed room.
When we went to the desk to finalize the room change the staff was very unpleasant.
We were given another "premier" room #623 which was larger, with a double closet and a nice view.
Breakfast buffet should have been better given the level of this hotel.
Food at the bar was good and the staff pleasant.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Alvear Palace. This Hotel is sophisticated and beautiful inside and in a great location. We stayed for a couple of nice prior to a Silversea's cruise. They had our rooms ready and they are lovely with staff that were attentive and kind. The downstairs bar is lively and a great place to start the evening. After arriving from a 11 hour flight, we had a late lunch in the bar. It was delicious. The staff on the floors were attentive and the rooms sparkled., They are large and spacious with a sunken tub and additional shower. The breakfast buffet is a most and we all enjoyed it. I was traveling with 8 ladies from the states and we hired the most wonderful private guide. Esequiel Cerioni. He has been a tour guide for several of my friends from Dallas and I will use him always while in Buenos Aires. He is a BA native. His contact is Ezequiel cerioni@gmail.com . Cell +54 9 11 5592 -5037. He made our whole trip wonderful. Toured 3 days with him. Highlights of Buenos Aires and shopping spots that were wonderful. I would highly recommend him as a top guide!!! He is charming and so knowledgeable.

I have stayed twice at the Alvear Palace in the past month and both times it was superb. The rooms on the 11th floor are quiet and beautifully decorated and have wonderful views. The breakfast buffet has a great variety of fresh food on offer.
This ‘grande dame’ hotel maintains high standards with their excellent staff.

Everyone says this is the best hotel in Buenos Aires, and it is easy to see why. Beautiful public area, spacious luxurious guest rooms and a staff that is second to none in service and helpfulness. There is never a shortage of staff to carry a bag, give directions, make reservations, etc. You will easily consider this your home away from home.

The head concierge helped us with restaurant reservations and his knowledge was invaluable. He helped get us into Don Julio, the best steak house in BA that is booked months in advance. He also recommended Roux (wonderful) and Warnes (an "underground" restaurant with great food and no tourists. Check them out.

Regarding payment at the Alvear, If I remember correctly the bill at the end of my stay was in US dollars. I think you can get it either way, I almost always use my AMEX card when I travel internationally. They except all forms of cards I think. A debit card may be an issue though...
