The heater in the room did not work and I slept with my hat and winter coat on. May be best for a summer stay. Staff was super friendly but we were the only guests and the neighborhood did not feel safe for walking at night. We left after one night and they did not refund us for our reservation.... More

I just stayed one night. I liked the courtyard, where there's a bar, too. The dorm was very humid, but the bed comfortable. Unfortunately there is only one bathroom at the moment. I think it might be more clean and well groomed. Looks like nobody cares. The kitchen is small. The location is good, in san telmo but close to... More

On my first trip to Buenos Aires I walked past the Terranova Hostel, and poked my head in for a look. The first think I noticed was the great artwork and the openness of the court yard, and thought it looked like a great place to stay. When I returned to BA, I made a reservation with the hostel, arrived... More

I stayed here with my 7 yr old son and it was just perfect for what we were looking for. Yes the staff seemed to change a lot… BUt every single one of them was really nice and really helpful. The vibe at this hostel was super nice, really relaxed and it felt really safe with them having a locked... More

After 2 bad experiences (1st noise, 2nd BIG cockroaches) in San Telmo hostels, we encountered Terranova. We loved the relaxed vibe. The area where the dorms are is quiet and peaceful and the crew makes sure it stays that way in the evening. The cultural area is very nice because it changes the atmosphere everyday. The breakfast is nothing special,... More

I actually lived in San Telmo, so I know the hostels there. Terranova is not just the best hostel in the neighbourhood but is a cultural zone as well. They have tango and art events almost every night, the bar is great as well as the whole atmosphere. You will like the place because it is perfect for different kind... More

This hostel has a real good vive, what people from Argentina call "Buena Onda", once you get there you will automatically feel it. The place is clean, neat, and besides been a hostel its also a cultural space, so any night you might find bohemian guitar players, smooth jazz playing, arts events or even a rock band rocking the stage.... I stayed 3 nights here in the cheap dorm and it was acceptable but only just. Paid 70 pesos a night which included breakfast. Note this review is significantly impacted by it being cold in BA when I stayed at this hostel and the hostel currently going through some renovations. Maybe it's due to these two factors but it felt... More

Guillermo, Emanuel, and Martin are SUPER awesome and always make sure everyone is comfortable and having a good time. If you're looking to make some friends and have a little community, this is the place to be. It is also in a great location and really inexpensive. In addition to live music and tango lessons, Terranova also has all the... More

We like to remember our stay in the hostel! The members of hostel were very nicely. Most of the graffiti and picturesare were impressive, really. The rooms and courtyard were redeveloped in a lively way and with a lot of love! I found here the mood of San Telmo. Every body, who is looking for the unconventional part of the... More

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
