There is a lot to like about the Bauen Suite Hotel in Buenos Aires. Do not confuse this property with the Bauen Hotel which is a different property. The Bauen Suite location on Corrientes puts you right in the heart of one of the busiest parts of the city with easy access to the subte (Callao Station), city buses (collectives) and taxis. Every conceivable service you will need (laundries, grocery stores, newsstands, kiosks, wine/beer shops, shopping, etc) is a short walk away. The hotel has an impressive lobby with security. The rooms are also quite large and feature a private bathroom, dining area with kitchenette (fridge, microwave, sink, dishes, glasses and cutlery), a bedroom area with 32 inch LCD TV with remote that can be swiveled so it can be viewed from the bedroom or dining area and a sitting area/second bedroom area. The rooms were clean and relatively modern in design. There is tons of storage. The hotel’s dining room on the 2nd floor serves a good free breakfast and also offers lunch and dinner service. The breakfast consists of the typical ham/cheese and rolls, facturas (pastries), cereal with liquid yogurt or milk, fruit, yogurt, and of course media lunas and assorted other goodies. They actually had real orange juice rather than the Tang they usually serve in Argentine hotels and the coffee was very good. Everything was kept well stocked and seating was comfortable with a big screen TV and an outdoor patio in season. I tried their dining room one night for dinner and the food was delicious and fairly inexpensive. They have a full service bar as part of the dining room. Nice hotel and a real value for what you get. However, there were some minor issues.

The hotel has two elevators that are clearly inadequate for the job if the hotel has a lot of guests. They do not have a service elevator and that puts an additional strain on the elevator availability. For most of our stay the elevators were not fully operational and for a 14 story building that is a problem. Hotel management stated they were waiting for them to be repaired but that stretched into days. Seriously? Elevators are the core of any hotel and one would assume they could be repaired in short order. The only solution was to have a bellman run the elevators and if you needed one you had to call the front desk. After a while that became quite tedious. Even after the elevators were “fixed” they were slow to arrive and again two elevators are not enough. Since there is no way to resolve that issue you should be prepared for the stairs or to wait a long time. At one point during our stay 3 busloads of Brazilian high school students were in the hotel and the elevators were completely impossible. I would recommend requesting a room on the lower floors 2, 3, or 4 for example. Our room was on the 4th floor. Also ask for one in the rear of the building. You want to be away from the front city view as Corrientes is a very busy and noisy street. The lower floors also give you the option of using the stairs if the elevator is on the blink or the place is crowded. The Brazilian students also had a party one night in one of the hotel dining rooms. Nice group of kids. They kept the music down but the sound of the girls in high heels on the stairs going up and down all night (the elevators were, of course, not working) was a bit noisy.

Our room was nice. You insert you key card into a slot to turn on the power to the room and the heat/air. I have seen this in other hotels in Argentina as well. Hint: You can slip another card from your wallet into the slot to keep the heat/air on while you are out. I used a telephone card and it worked. You get one key card upon arrival. The bathroom was large with a tub shower, toilet and bidet and nice vanity. It could have been better lit. The tub was very slippery without a mat or non slip surface so be careful. The tile floors are also slippery when wet. The toilet seat would also not stay up so that was a minor problem for men. The water pressure was great and lots of hot water though the temperature would sometimes vary slightly during a shower so keep it on the warm to hot setting and be careful of scalding. The bathroom has a built in hair dryer and a phone. Toiletries come with the room. One sliding door to our closet was broken and off the track and it was hard to open and close. Also our fridge did not work but that didn’t keep the compressor from trying. It was noisy. Fortunately the kitchenette has a set of folding doors that closes off the area and cut down the noise. They have a full length mirror near the door.

The bed was quite comfortable with a reading light on either side. The heat came through a vent near the ceiling. We were there in July (winter). The room was chilly when we first arrived. It took quite a while for the heat to come down to our level. The room has high ceilings. If you reached up you could feel the very hot air and eventually it worked its way to us. The switch for the heat/air control on the wall was stripped but I could turn the spindle by hand. It is either off or on…no thermostat. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping the room cleaned. Your sheets are changed every 3 days and towels daily. The room is broken into 3 levels …the bathroom/kitchenette/dining room level, the master bedroom level and the sitting area/second bedroom area. The master bedroom level was sunken and the two other levels were at the same level (entry level). Master bedroom has a phone. They have Wi-Fi but I believe it is not free. If I recall correctly it was in the 3 peso an hour range or roughly .75 cents. Which is not bad though many places in BA now offer it for free but I suspect Bauen is trying to keep bandwidth usage reasonable and it is not about the money.

The hotel working staff (bellman, maids, restaurant staff) was very nice and accommodating. The front desk staff varied greatly in service level. Some were very helpful others were not very friendly or helpful. Check in was easy though if you book through an internet service make sure you print and bring your confirmation documents. We got an excellent deal on the room at under 90 dollars USD per night in part because we pre-paid. At that rate the hotel is a steal. Their rack rate is considerably higher so try and book the hotel through an internet source before contacting the hotel directly. We were with our 3 year old son so we had triple occupancy. 4 people could comfortably stay in the room with two using the couch/futon combos and the other the full size bed. The hotel attracts a lot of families and groups. Nice families based on what we saw in the dining room.

The hotel is a bit dated and run down but clean and this is a common condition with Argentine hotels. They do not ask you how your stay was on checkout which for me is always a sign of the quality and service orientation of any hotel. This is not a top class hotel. 2 stars trying to be 3. It is however, clean, secure, comfortable and if you get it for a good price a bargain. I would give this hotel 4 stars for the stay as an excellent value if we did not have the problems we did. Because of the issues I am tempted to give it 3 stars. Certainly some issues were specific to our room and not a reflection of the hotel at large. I will quite possibly stay here again in the future if the price is right. I like the location. There are just not decent cheap hotels left in BA anymore and this is one of the few...so 4 stars..reluctantly.

The staff was excellent. The location was superb. I don't think any other hotel in all of Buenos Aires is closer to a Subte metro system stop. There are also lots of places to eat nearby including one of the few Starbucks in all of Buenos Aires that opens at 5:30 am. on Sunday mornings! 100 Arg pesos is a very fair price for a continental breakfast but what was offered by the hotel was simply not of enough appeal to us. We had a problem with lack of hot water for the shower and the maintenance worker was promptly sent up to address the matter. While we got a kick out of the "retro" look of our hotel, we encourage this hotel to continue with its renovations.

This was my final stop on a 9-month journey around Central and South America. The last tour I did ended at the Bauen Hotel around the corner but I couldn't get a room there to stay the extra days so went to the Bauen Suites Hotel for convenience. Glad I did - I got a full kitchenette, big bed, adequate bathroom, dining area, TV, even lounge area - more than enough for just me! To compare it with other 4 star hotels is naive, standards change country to country and renovations would cost a lots of pesos.
I was comfortable enough during my stay there and it's well serviced by shops, transport, etc nearby.

This hotel cannot be recommended at all. Rooms are totally outdated with extremely bad condition windows, electricity and furniture and very noisy with lifts proximity like being in the room. Impossible to sleep at all in this environment especially when they give you a room at 14 th floor where very old velux windows are all broken and cannot be closed anymore so you feel like sleeping in the street !
Dinner at the hotel restaurant is clearly as bad as the hotel room.

I have never encountered such fraud as in this hotel. I was led to believe it was a 4 star hotel and it is absolutely nothing of the kind. I have stayed in some cheap motels in Australia but nothing compares to this. There was a smell of urine in the bathroom, dirty crockery in the 'kitchen' (which btw did not even have a kettle), and worst of all was the presence of exposed electric cables near the beds and raw open cables on the bedside lamp, which I reported three times but had nothing done about it. The bedside phone didn't work, the breakfast was limited to stodgy foods or very plain cereals, while whatever fruit there was were always in advanced stages of 'mature'. The staff tried to be friendly but as I speak Spanish as well and know the culture, this is often to gain extra tips from customers as many people in S America rely on these to survive given their measly wages. On the positive side the showers were good and warm, the free wifi much appreciated, and I did feel for the staff of such a terribly-resourced establishment.

The Only Good thing about this hotel is it's Location, Nothing more! If you have issues with anything about the room such as hot water, internet not working don't bother asking for them to fix cause they won't!
It advertised that it is a kitchenette, their definition of that and how they advertise that the "apartments" have cooking facilities is by them Throwing a 10 year old microwave into the room and Voila it is now a kitchenette with cooking facilities! Hahahaha, very sad but Very True!
And let me tell you how people have noted that the property was so called "Retro"...well Old and Crappy are better words to use! I felt like I was transported to the end of the Disco Era And beginning of the 80's where they couldn't quite tell which Era they prefer more! Its Nasty! Ugly! Lord knows in which decade those bed spreads and sheets were made or last cleaned! Hair all thru the bedding and bathroom, completely Nasty!
If you care about hygiene, Don't stay! If you want to sleep without the sounds of a Mob or stampede coming at ya, Don't stay cause you will never feel at peace due to the loud, rice paper thin walls from this Out dated Relic! As well as the water that builds up on floor when it rains and will soak anything you may have on the floor!
And the Staff are Totally Rude not to mention Ignorant and Racist!

Unfortunately, Bauen Suites looks so worn you wonder when the bed spreads last got a thoroough cleaning. The central location is an asset and we did enjoy our good fortune of being in the middle of a street fair celebrating books and authors. We could walk to Teatre Colon, and several restaurants. Too bad the constant need to ask for enough towels or the right size sheets on the bed made such a poor impression.

Complete fraud, advertised as a 4 star when it would barely reach a 1 star! So bad that when we got there and saw how old it was, how shabby the room was etc we decided to book somewhere else and left!
We booked a double room and were given a twin, that was only the start of it however!
Room looked like it hadn't been refurbished since the 1970's, toilet was leaking, air conditioning was leaking, fridge was so old it made a very loud noise, tv was ancient and the list goes on and on! Furniture was really old and shabby, all in all just very squalid to say the least!
I have stayed in hostels in Asia which were better than this and for a fraction of the price!
I definitely do not recommend it, I am amazed they get away with charging so much for such a dump!

It's located in Av. Corrientes, a few blocks away from the main St, 9 de Julio. You'll never walk alone in this Street, which is a good point if you're afraid of something. Bedroom was really nice, kind of a flat, with a living, sink, refri. Staff is helpful and breakfast is worth it. Nice cost.
