Detailed Reviews
Went to Hipocampus with my husband and we had a lovely time. Great spa service and lovely views. The restaurant has a very small variety of meals. Nice infrastructure in general, a bit messy for my taste: the pool is small and its surrounding area was cluttered as it's used as a depot. Overall great experience and we are looking forward to come back.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hipocampus Resort in Carlos Paz. The resort located a short walk (20mins downhill) or taxi ride 40 pesos from the town center.
Their restaurant offers a wide selection of good food and wine at very reasonable prices. Mash potatoes was a favorite! Breakfast was included in the room price and included bread with toaster, spreads, pastries, ham, cheese, cereal, milk, yoghurt, juice, coffee (good espresso was available for an extra fee)
We were initially placed into room 48 which was large with a balcony. The bathroom was cramped with no windows. The room was quite musty smelling with some mildew in the cupboard. We asked to be moved and were offered room 28 - a lovely room, smaller than 48 but not small. Plenty of windows for cross breeze ventilation. A large bathroom with windows at either end. The bed was comfortable with extra pillows and blankets supplied. The room included radiator heating (great for drying and warming towels), a ceiling fan and a/c, cable television and piped music. We had a private balcony with table and chairs overlooking the lake.
We were disappointed with the massage service. The therapist was 45mins late and then was only able to offer either one full body massage or two back massages due to time restraints. We had booked for an aromatherapy massage but spent most of the session with hot stones on our backs. The therapist then charged us for two full massages. We discussed the charge with reception at the time we settled the account and had the charge reduced by half.
We didn't use the other facilities -pool (part of which was heated under a large heating tent), tennis courts and sauna.
Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. We had limited Spanish, they had limited English but we all managed.

This is the first review I ever wrote but wanted to warn everyone
Although it has a great view - what it doesn't show you are the rooms. They are disgusting, dirty, the mattresses are falling apart. They showed three different rooms, one as dirty as the next. We had to call a cab, suitcases and all and pay to have a driver takes us to town in order to find a place to stay

My friend and I stayed for 5 days, and wish we could have stayed longer. The views were enchanting, the service perfect, the food enjoyable, and the atmosphere was amazing. We relaxed, soaked in the sun, and enjoyed one of Argentina's best kept secrets. If Americans knew how great this place is, they would be flocking to it! I highly recommend it for a relaxing, off-the-beaten path vacation. We were the only Americans there, and were treated VERY well by the staff. The town of Villa Carlos Paz is also very friendly and inviting -- a great place to stroll in the evening along the lake.

The expectation was very good, which was a big disappointment.
Spiders and web spiders everywhere. Lack of maintenance in all sectors. Dining proposal too low. Very poor breakfast. The dirty pool. The broken towels.
The only good thing about the hotel is the privileged view.
As we were told, when the "original" owner of the property died, his children began to manage it, who have no intention of keeping it, and this would justify their total abandonment.
