We made B&B Plaza Italia our home base for 10 days while visiting Mendoza and the surrounding area. It was perfect for this because of it's central location and because if one needs transportation to remote activities (like horseback riding, wine tours, and the incomparable Termas de Cacheuta (hot springs) most of these offer transportation from the downtown area. The B&B is also within easy walking distance of numerous interesting shops plus literally hundreds of restaurants and wine bars, some with live music. The usual travel precautions apply anywhere of course, but unlike many cities worldwide today, we felt completely safe here when walking around, day or night.

The accommodations were spacious and impeccably clean, breakfast is provided for a good start to the day, which we then augmented with an enjoyable and leisurely espresso each morning at one of the nearby sidewalk cafes while we planned our day.

Javier and his mother Mercedes, as well as the staff were wonderful and provided us with all sorts of useful tips when we asked. And if you're looking for a premium wine tour, you will not go wrong asking Javier to take you. He has been doing these tours for years and knows all the best places. His tour for us was to the Valle de Uco where we visited 3 wineries and had a wonderful lunch. And because we had some more detailed questions about the wine business in Argentina, he arranged a special meeting for us the next day with a personal friend who is one of the preeminent winemakers of the region. Be sure to book early with him though. He's a right popular guy and his tour days fill quickly depending on the season!

All in all, a wonderful experience and introduction to Mendoza. This was our first time visiting, but it certainly won't be the last. And if you have any doubts at all about visiting Mendoza because of the news stories saying how bad it is in Argentina, don't worry at all. This is a fabulous country with great people, excellent food and wine and lots to see and do. There is a near complete disconnect between the news stories we read before going and the reality. We're sure that you'll enjoy your trip here it as much as we did.

We were two couples travelling together through Argentina for about a month. The B&B is ideally located just across the Plaza Italia – hence the name, and close by is the Independence Square and numerous other plazas.

Well-appointed and welcoming, this is a top notch B&B and the hosts Javier and his mother Mercedes were quick to respond to any of our queries. Both were extremely attentive and available to help guests with anything need without being intrusive.

There are numerous restaurants within walking distance as well as several excellent ice-cream shops (according to my husband as ice-cream is an important food group).

Both our bedrooms were very comfortable and amenities were provided in the bathroom along with large fluffy towels. Although there was a TV, reception was very poor and only Spanish channels were available. It would have been nice to stay current with an English news station, but I really appreciated the access to Netflix.

Breakfast was varied and plentiful, and Mercedes kindly arranged an early breakfast seating for us the morning we checked out as we had an early flight.

There is a common room available to guests as well as a small courtyard. We enjoyed our morning coffee here as well as met up over a glass of wine to make our next day plans. Janvier also arranged a private wine tour that included lunch. Hugely enjoyable although I must admit we all drank too much wine. We all had to take a nap once we returned to the B&B.

Happy with our decision to stay here.

I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at B&B Plaza Italia! Mercedes is a fabulous hostess who understands and speaks English very well. As someone who has spent most of her life in Mendoza, she is extremely helpful with recommendations for activities, restaurants, transportation, etc. Her son, Javier, who helps his mother run the B&B and also speaks excellent English, is knowledgeable regarding all things wine and conducts a variety of wine tours.
Mercedes’ home is beautiful, cozy, clean and well located in the city central across from the Plaza Italia, one of the many wonderful plazas in the city. The breakfast that is included in the stay is fresh, generous and served in the home’s lovely dining room.
We highly recommend this B&B to anyone planing a stay in Mendoza. Thanks again, so much, for an awesome stay!

Lovely family home turned B&B. Short walk to restaurants and pubs. Family has deep roots in the area and very helpful with directions, restaurant options and winery and other tours.

Rooms are tastefully decorated, clean, comfy, cool and quiet.

Highly recommend!

The breakfast and cleaning staff are very courteous and attentive to requests from bed & breakfast guests. The matriarch of the owner family lives on site, is fluent in English, and is available to assist and supervise if any issues arise that need attention. An international assortment of guests are engaging and friendly around the breakfast table each morning. The family manager [Javier] of the facility is always looking out for the welfare of guests and is a wealth of knowledge regarding Mendoza, nearby restaurants, and the hundreds of wineries within an easy drive from Plaza Italia.

Plaza Italia B&B exceeded all of our expectations. The very best qualities came from the friendly, personable and extremely knowledgeable hosts. The rooms are immaculately clean and cleaned again every day, the breakfast was very fine with varied items, and the lovely location within Mendoza city could not have been better as it was perfect for easily walking or biking anywhere. It was also an ideal base from which to explore nearby wineries and mountains. We had a marvelous time.

I can't say enough about our fabulous time at Plaza Italia. Javier and Mercedes were amazing hosts. Staying in their family home was comfortable and their knowledge of the city where they'd always lived can't be beat. We signed up for two days of tours with Javier and I can't imagine a better guide for the area's boutique wineries. These are his neighbors, really, and they treated us as friends as soon as we arrived at each stop. From beginning to end, Javier extended himself to make our trip memorable--right from the start, in fact, when both he and his wife came to pick us up in case the four of us needed two cars for our luggage (we did not!) through to our final trip to the airport, which Javier made even though it meant being late to his son's rugby game. We were sad to leave, but filled with happy memories of a trip that couldn't have been better, thanks to our wonderful hosts. Javier, Mercedes, and Mendoza: we will return!

Plaza Italia is a wonderful, family-owned and operated bed and breakfast within walking distance of restaurants, shops and parks in downtown Mendoza. We were a multi-generation (81, 59, 30, 23) family group, and our hosts recommendations and guidance really made the most of the few days we had in Mendoza. Javier managed our wine tour and couldn't have chosen better experiences for us. They have been in business more than 20 years and couldn't be more charming.

I stayed here with three other friends for five nights and it made our trip to Mendoza very special. Having the B&B to ourselves, we found that we had a lovely home base in which to explore the city by foot and the bodegas nearby. The hosts were incredibly gracious and through our conversations we were able to learn a lot about the history of Mendoza and the local wines. The rooms were very comfortable and everything was impeccably clean. I highly recommend B&B Plaza Italia

Dear Jim b, Thank you for the question. Indeed, as roos1ter said before, the third parties such as booking or expedia are only reservation sites, which only act as intermediators between the traveler and the hotel. They do not charge for the reservation. It is the accomodation which charges for the stay. In our case, the most convenient thing to do is to reserve directly with us.
