We ha a wonderful experience while staying at El Pedral. The facilities and staff were very accommodating. It was a very relaxing time, we were fed VERY well and were allowed to get comfortable and relaxed. I would definitely do this again. See the Photos for more information.
El Pedrel is just lovely, run by Lara who is intelligently energetic, enthusiastic and always ready to help make your stay better. It feels like luxury on the edge of the world. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and the food was great. The lady that guided us to the penguins and elephant seals (I’m so sorry, I was told her name five times and it never stuck - my bad) was very knowledgable, and despite the fact that she must have done the same thing many times, her delivery was fresh and interesting. It felt that everybody loved what they were doing. Also very friendly dog. Don’t worry that the internet is crap, that is a gift in itself.
Amazing place, amazing people, I am just sorry we didn't stay longer, to watch the penguins was one of the best experiences of the trip, we stayed with 2 kids (3 and 4) and they also loved the place! Don't do a day trip, just stay a few days!
Sometimes luxury means being able to get away from it all and El Pedral is perfect for this. Not cheap but, on the other hand, whatever you desire: just ask. Camila exuded cool competence, mixed with sincere caring. Like she'd been doing the job for years and years. But she was new. That was then so she'd be ten times better now. If the gate is locked (quite a way from the lodge) drive in the opposite direction and the neighbouring rancher will help. That's how things are out there: wonderfully informal yet wonderfully efficient. Nothing was too much trouble (but at those prices . . . )
We stayed for 4 days in the remote wilderness get away. Our syay couldnt have begun any better with an impromptu afyernoon tea organised by the wonderful Camilla. Our plane was delayed, we'd arrived later than planned so a quick bite before getting accustomed to our surroundings was needed. We headed out to watch the horses playing and wandered down to the beach to be lucky enough to see whales playing in the sea. There were 50-100m from the shore and I cannot express how spine tinglingly magical it was to be so close with no interferance in their habitat. We were lucky enough to see them everyday during our stay. The food is delicious. Dont worry if you're not into lamb, you only have this once. If you love fish, you'll be in heaven. We had octopus, grilled white fish, chicken all beautifully prepared. They check like and dislikes, and double checked if we were ok with octopus. Everything is perfectly cooked restaurant quality food. Camilla is a warm welcoming host. Her positive energy and enthusiam are contagious. Nothing was too much trouble. She came out and rescued us when we unwisely went for a walk in threatening clouds. I have never been so pleased to see a car coming down the beach! We had Rodrigo take us on our tour to meet the eleplant seals and penguins. He guided us down the cliffs and told us lots of jokes and information about the area and wildlife. It was the perfect balance of humour and imformation. Tours were timed so we had the beaches to ourselves, it truly was a private tour. Being so close to them and they know you're not a threat is a magical experience. The rooms are the same as the pictures, basic but clean and have everything you need. There's plenty of hot water, enough yo fill a bath to warm up after a rain drenching. You wont spend much time in them, they're a place to rest your head and get clean. You dont come here for the rooms, you come for the surroundings. We were lucky enough to have a photographer staying at the same time as us. She took breath taking night photography and showed us the milky way that can be clearly seen at night. You forget, living in our light polluted world just how many stars fill our skies. We loved our stay here, and it was exactly what we were looking for. If you're staying here you need to love the outdoors and nature and want to be away from it all. If you want to tick off seeing sea elephants and penguins, I'd probably recommend doing the day trip as you may wonder what else to do with your time after you've seen them. Keep your eyes peeled as you're moving around. We were lucky enough to spot whales, a skunk and flamingoes! After advice from the hotel we arranged to be picked up from the airport. This was great advice as the roads are tricky to drive and blink and you'll miss the entrance. If you hire a car, make sure it's a 4x4 as you'll need it to negociate around the giant puddles and deep tracks. If you're coming here to escape and unwind you wont need a car. …
