we rented a car in buenos aires and it took us over a thousand kilometers of driving to find this laid back area. unless you like neon-ed, paved over, high-rise clustered beach towns with cabana crowded beaches skip the coastal drive. peninsula valdes was a gust of fresh air, tourist oriented but still rustic. our hotel was bright and sunny. decent breakfast and they do your laundry if asked. if you're driving be very aware that there is one gas station on the peninsula and is mostly out of gas and the distances to the various animal colonies are quite far. get gas whenever you can. it's a 92k drive to the nearest station in puerto madryn.
