Sleep beneath the ever watching gaze of an active volcano and re-energize in the comfort of Selina Baños. Step outside and straight into the busy streets of the city’s downtown. Known as the “Gateway to the Amazon,” Baños, Ecuador is a mystical town with hot springs, waterfalls, jungle thrills, and great energy. This is the place to be for anyone seeking a true Andean adventure! Nestled amid the mountains and close to the Tungurahua active volcano, you’ll easily feel the energy this small town is known for Wellness in Baños is famous worldwide – hot springs, spas, and yoga are all readily available from Selina. Leave this out or change the R&R, at least I did not know what it stands for. For a day of adventure, choose from whitewater rafting, canyoning, rock climbing or zip lining.

Stayed here during the pandemic of 2020. So sorry to see that we were the only guest during the stay. The town of Banos really suffered during Covid and there are many empty and closed restaurants and stores around it. However, the staff was still available to us 24/7. They even helped us park our motorcycles inside and there was nobody else in the hotel. The location is amazing as it's right next to the central square and the church of the town with all the restaurants around. The rooms are very modern and very very clean. Breakfast is tasty

Stayed here during a 3 day trip from Quito via EcuadorHop. Having stayed in Selena Tena (which was an abysmal experience) I wouldn't have opted to stay in another Selena branch ever again but didn't have any choice. To give credit where it's due, the reception staff at the Banos branch were a lot more helpful and friendly than in Tena. The location was very central. Those were the only positive things I took away from my stay. The private rooms were not great and fairly noisy from the street noise. The private bathrooms were grotty and I had to close my eyes in order to use them. Breakfast options were poor. The pool table was a nice touch but everything else around was less than ideal. Cinema room available was constantly busy. The private rooms were cold and I had to sleep with layers on to keep warm at night. My best advice would be to avoid all things Selena related!

Very centrally located. Great common areas and food menu in the onsite restaurant. I would generally rate this as a 3.5 and I think is generally applicable to all Selina hostels. I have stayed in two and seen three in two different countries. I personally stay in them as a backup option to hotels if I can’t find anything better. Where they are great is the common facilities. Where they are at best average (to hotels and top notch hostels) is the actual rooms and beds. We had a private double and triple. Our bathroom toilet barely flushed. Beds were not twin size beds but smaller (not even sure what size they are called). There isn’t really a proper blanket, even though temp was 50-70, only a sheet and a very small towel-like blanket. I ended up using my own blanket that I bought here as a souvenir. Each room had two normal beds, and a bunk bed which is weird for private rooms in hostels where usually you get proper beds. The private rooms at Selina are the same as their shared rooms, (versus in some hostels, privates are more like hotel quality for people who still want the hostel experience like the common areas but want their own rooms). So overall my recommendation is great for backpackers. But if you mostly stay in hotels but consider hostel private rooms as well because you’re traveling with a group of friends and want more bed options like triple, I’d recommend Selina as a backup option.
