Due to a taxi cab driver who inadvertently left us at the hotel without all of our items, we needed immediate assistance. The owner, Rosita, offered superior service to help us recover these items. Not only this, Rosita and her staff made our visit so nice, we returned after traveling in the Oriente/Amazon to enjoy her beautiful hotel and great food at her restaurant. We would highly recommend it to any potential guests! Post Script: This is one of the closest, nice hotels to the mineral spring pools.
Service was great and I enjoyed the included breakfast. I stayed in Room 3. The bed was comfortable but in the 3 days I was there I didn’t have hot water on any of the days. Although in saying that apparently there was an issue with water and I was lucky to have water at all as some places had zero water supply.
The hotel is close to the city center just down the street from the church. It is an old world hotel with spacious windows and a great view on both sides of the room. The bed in room 12 is fantastic. It's king size and of a temper foam type. Very comfortable. The bathroom is dated and our shower door did not work. We did inform Marcelo about the door before we left. I'm certain he will attend to this issue in due course. The bathroom door with its glass inserts and carved wooden plaque room number are nice appointments you don't see anymore. The second floor balcony overlooking the street is also not to be missed. One can imagine how fancy this hotel was in its heyday. A continental breakfast is provided with the room with fresh fruit, eggs made to order, fresh blended juice, and coffee. I enjoyed the coffee and fresh rolls with strawberry marmalade every morning. The real gem in this place are the owners Marcelo and his wife. They were so nice and accommodating to us. When we first arrived Marcelo carried our luggage up the stairs to the room and put the bags into the cabinet. He spent a lot of time helping us with the local sights and deciphering out roto Español. They provided us with maps of the city and surrounding area attractions. They even drove us up to the tree house swing so we could hike down the mountain. On our checkout we mentioned the need for a taxi and he immediately offered to drive us to the bus terminal. Old world charm and personal service are what set this place apart from the rest. …
Staff: Manager could be more friendly and polite. The bellhop was very nice and attentive. General: Obvious that some of the lobby and restaurant is used for personal/family living. The family of the staff occupied these areas at all times of day, including loud voices and bad music. Music began at 8am on Sunday morning. Decor is bizarre with enormous portraits of Asian children. Breakfast: Basic. Coffee, juice, eggs, bread, fruit. Room: Clean and pleasant, very similar to photos. Clean sheets and comfortable bed. Beautiful view. No air conditioning and no window screens. No hair dryer. No bottled water provided. Bathroom: Outdated. Hot water was hit or miss. Shower did not drain properly - staff was notified but did not resolve. Pretty gross. Parking: Available but not convenient. Overall: Had it not been an over-booked holiday weekend, I would have relocated. Definitely over-priced. Would not stay there again.…
I recently went to Baños in the Easter 2017 holiday and stayed in Marcelo’s room #17. Hotel’s location is very central and you don’t need to go through the downtown traffic to get there. The room itself was very nice and spacious but the shower didn’t drain properly so your feet were always under “dirty” water while taking a shower. We were greeted by people ironing blankets in the lobby which gave a bad first impression. Being holiday, Baños was packed with people and It seemed the hotel owners received some family members who slept in the lobby/restaurant. Not only it gave a very informal appearance but kids would be kids till late and it was difficult to sleep or have peace. Breakfast is ok. You get served a glass of juice and scrambled eggs and then you can eat unlimited amounts of bread/butter/coffee/marmalades. There is no cheese however. Didn’t use much of internet while there so I have no opinion on it. The one time I used it was decent. It has a parking space for cars, but its access might prove difficult for inexperienced drivers: the entrance is very narrow and very steep. I don’t think you can fit a big truck. You could see the walls scratched with car colors.…
