What a nice place, far above my expectations at this price! It's not in the middle of the downtown area, so it's peaceful and quiet yet is only a short 10-15 stroll to get to the center of the restaurants and many excursion companies. The full breakfast was good and I loved the coffee. A kitchen was available as well as a few item for sale such as soda, water and beer. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate, comfortable and had cable TV. The internet ,however, was slow. It had great, secure parking as advertised. When I go back to Baños, I'll certainly stay there again.
Located away from the buzz of downtown Baños, you can get some good sleep here. The rooms are well kept and clean. Wifi is old fashioned but works and is stable and free. Staff is friendly and the owner takes time to chat with you. They even set up tours for us.
Stayed in Monte Carmelo for 4 nights, had best time..delicious breakfast, beautiful room view and most helpful hosts ever. Hostal is near city center and convenient to reach everything you need. Loved it. Highly recommended.
I stayed only one night passing through heading back north to my home in Medellin. There are so many choices and I am fully satisfied with this hostal. I drove so the free secure parking in the courtyard is very valuable for me. Was greeted by Alex on my arrival and was so great that he took 20 plus minutes and explained the town and sites. The breakfast was good and I must say that the owner Bolivar is so gracious and helpful. The rooms are large, I had a great night sleep. My only regret is having to leave. I recommend this hostal and will return.
On plus side, the hostal is quite, provides good services such as hot shower, good breakfast, comfortable bed, cable channels. There is also free parking, so in general I think people who come in their own car are well served. Nice view on mountains, but from the room I had also view to parking lot. It only takes 10 minutes to go to the termas el Salado. On less pleasant side, not the hostals fault but fact of life nevertheless... The walk from city centre is really no more than 10 minutes. However these are not the most pleasant 10 minutes to be had. Walking through desolate streets after dark, not the best feeling. And I had even less pleasant experience - to get to the hostal I had to pass over a bridge. One day some 3 dogs who were camping next to it got excited chasing a bike and decided that I was the next target of interest. Really made me uncomfortable to walk past there, so I spent way too much time designing alternative routes and in general being nervous around dogs in town, of which there is plenty. Sure you can take taxi to avoid all that. But my experience of Baños was really affected, as a matter of fact I had another unpleasant encounter with another group of dogs while trekking. Nothing other than a bit of scare happened on either occasion, but it can actually be dangerous. Also, blow-dryer would have been nice. Kitchen is not available for guests´ use.…
