Stayed here a week ago and can’t say enough good things. Getting there was an experience by itself. When the sign said “primitive road” we were all a little unnerved but the destination is worth the lonely road! This place is beautiful in every respect. Liz’s and Darryn are wonderful hosts, Liz is a gourmet cook whose breakfasts will not disappoint. We loved our experience here and highly recommend it.

Oh the Road.. I believe we told you the road was the reason we bought the place. Some times the path less traveled is the best one. Or..you have to break a few eggs to make an Omelet...B&B analogy thrown in here. Everyone questions the road at first... But extremely please at the end... See you again I'm sure...Down by the River Darryn,Liz & MJ

Darryn and Lizz are amazing. We stayed three nights while visiting the area sights..
The owners have a meeting/event management company that requires travel all over the world yet run DBTR without missing a beat! Liz has restaurant experience and is an amazing chef..while her breakfasts are a bit more gourmet then I like I did not pass on any of the three she server,
We stayed in the Cowboy Room, slightly larger then others. Spotless in every way. Elaborate decore, outside access.
We happened to be the only guests so had the run of the place. The pool table, shuffle board table. Chaise lounges and rivers edge seating area.
Our hosts were great conversationalist and responded to our every requests. Afternoon treats were very nice..
The place is remote,,requres a 5 mile drive on a very good dirt road. This provides an isolation that is quiet and relaxing.
Dinning out requires you go to Benson. We met all out needs at Mi Casa, Horseshoe Cafe and Subway. Avoid Wendy's!
Recommend visiting Kar. Caverns, Amerind Museum, Ft Bowie, Tombstone, Chirachua Nation Monument, Bisbee Golf Cart Tours, San Pedro House hiking and Ft Hauchuca.
Do all of this from Down by the River B&B.

This is a beautiful place where every time you look around you discover more beauty both inside and outside. We stayed in the Prospector Room and it was fascinating. The whole experience was totally relaxing. Darryn and Liz are wonderful hosts and try to anticipate and meet your every need. And breakfasts, well those are extraordinary. I can only hope we get to enjoy this special place another time.

We'd been to this B & B several years ago, when it was under the management of the original owners. It is the coolest place, with artwork, and curiosities everywhere you look. We took the Bird Room. Again. Each room has its own theme. They all have some section devoted to items from the early to mid 1900s (Ours was kitchen items).

The new owners have kept all this charm and added their own upgrades. The beds are just as comfortable and the room still has a Jacuzzi tub, but there is also a small space heater to take the morning chill off. Lights and the heater can be turned on and off by remote switch. The small refrigerator and microwave have been 'updated' to a retro-50s style which is in keeping with the shelves of old kitchen products. How adorable!!
Liz made fabulous breakfasts: a real challenge, since my husband and I have many food concerns. She also left out a generous assortment of mid-day snacks: cake, cookies (new choices each day), snack bars, fresh fruit, and even gluten-free snacks.

While one of the couples we met was also interested in birding and photography, another couple was busy exploring historical sites such as Tombstone. This location is a great midway point for day trips, while it is secluded enough to allow you to unwind, sit outdoors and enjoy the local birds, or retreat to indoor activities.Rooms are quiet and we've enjoyed the company of other couples drawn to this type of environment.

I stayed in the Mission Room in March, 2018. This B & B is beautifully decorated, quiet and comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous, even in March, with inviting patios and trails. I was very impressed and appreciative that the owners went to the extra effort of providing me with the vegan breakfast that I requested, which was delicious. Also, they promptly mailed me a pair of shoes that I left there inadvertently.

We have 3 rooms still available. The rates for the cowboy and bird rooms are $150 and our small room is $123.30. There is also a 6.05% tax added. This is a minimum 2 night stay because of Helldorado weekend in Tombstone. You... More
