This small boutique hotel is a perfect location to walk to any location in uptown Sedona. For the price we paid I would expect better customer services but I’m guessing it’s covid related. Phone rang off the hook when calling the front desk. No housekeeping, which I didn’t think I’d mind only staying 2 nights. But we got 1 roll of toilet paper, 2 towels and 1 hand towel. Kind of annoying having to call for toilet paper. And the garbage. We had an overflowing garbage can of water bottles and other trash. No garbage bags. Consider placing a bag in rooms so people can put their garbage in the hall to be collected.

The pool area is small yet nice! Always a lounge chair available to relax in. The view from the infinity pool is stunning!!

Rooms a tad dated. We enjoyed staying and would recommend it!

Check-in was great from the time we drove up to the valet service, and the front desk attendance was very informative. We asked where the room would be located and we had a choice of either floor. She did acknowledge That none of their rooms faced the scenic mountains, but they had the best courtyard in the city facing those mountains. When we asked what room was better for a view, she said the upper floor was better as it faced a courtyard and it's scenic walk away with trees.
Our luggage was delivered to our room with no problems within minutes and the Bellman was very polite and offered some great tips for walking around the city.

The room was very spacious and high end with two balconies and sliding doors. The only issue is one of these doors faced the back parking lot and off to the corner what is the service area for another hotel, so all we saw workers and delivery vehicles, therefore we had to keep our blinds closed. The south balcony faced part of another parking lot and part of the walkway with the trees. This was disappointing as it was not what the front desk person let us to believe.

When requesting the same front desk person about this room, and that she told us our room locked into the courtyard, she said no, those are courtyard rooms that's why your room is larger even though the view may not be ideal and then apologized.

No microwave or coffee maker although there is free coffee and tea in the lobby.

The free wine social between 5-6 was fun, and breakfast was a good value. The valet service for your car was good, but hard to pay time each and every time was a struggle.
Room was clean but we found a left object of clothing from a previous guest. Bathroom was very small with limited counter space. Their tray of costly goodies took more counter space than was available.

The Amara is very nice and is in a great location. It's an easy walk up the hill to Uptown Sedona which has lots of shopping and restaurants. The view from the restaurant, sitting area and pool is spectacular. Oak Creek runs behind Amara and is also very nice for a quick and easy afternoon walk.

The rooms was clean and spacious but nothing special. We had a small balcony overlooking a grassy area with trees but probably wasn't worth the extra money in our case. Because of COVID, the cleaning staff doesn't enter the rooms unless requested. They will bring towels, ice, etc. upon request and they were very quick to respond. Everyone (guests & staff) were practicing social distancing and were wearing masks in the public areas per state requirements.

We didn't try the onsite restaurant, but were told by other patrons that the food was good. The menu was limited because of COVID. The drinks at the pool were pricey but that's expected at a resort type hotel. Concierge was great and helped us quite often on booking tours, restaurant reservations, etc. Bar staff was very nice and helpful on things to do and see in the area.

Overall a nice place in a great location with beautiful views. We didn't try the spa so I can't comment on the services there. The only negative was the carpet on a couple of the stairways in the public hallways was worn and needs to be replaced. Parking is by "complementary valet only" and it's a little awkward for tipping when you are in and out multiple times a day. But the valet was very fast and they didn't make me feel like I needed to tip every time.

Understanding the impact of COVID 19 on the property and overall industry, we came in with lower/justified expectations

We were looking for a simple mental/physical get away – bringing our daughter and two golden retrievers up from the valley. We had an awesome West Fork hike and then proceeded to the property for the 4pm check in. The arrival was and staff was good. Little traffic, no pressure. We expected that we would probably/should have to handle our own items (simple small bags, dog beds, etc.) and had no issue with this reduced level of service.

Owe made our reservation online and cleanly defined our group makeup – including our two dogs. When we arrived – the typical Kimpton attention to detail was definitely lacking. The water and treat bowls were empty, no effort to provide the expected room amenities was made. Luckily, we brought our own dog beds, collapsible water and food bowls, etc.

We also used the available exterior patio for dining. We were excited that this would be our first time eating out in almost three months. The service, food & beverage definitely did not justify the pre-Covid resort costs. 2 cocktails, 1 simple chips & salsa, 2 street tacos and 1 fish for entrée and 2 cookie deserts and we were delivered a $200 ticket?

Please do not get us wrong – we appreciated the opportunity to get out of our four walls but the frustration is paying a decent rate for a simple room, extra for dogs after the reservation was made, a resort fee for activities that are not available and an average dining experience with a premium charge.

We definitely are looking to support struggling business and individuals affected by the current environment but there still needs to be a product/cost value balance. A property executive should evaluate how to bring the cost in line with the actual product and services delivered (VALUE)

We came to this hotel during an unusual weather week in Sedona but were still excited because at least we could use the nice hotel amenities like the bar, spa and hot tub. Unfortunately every single thing we tried to do here was a mess. We tried to get drinks by the fire pit, I had to clear 8 empty cocktail glasses from previous guests get a tray and take them into the bar to order more. Then used the same tray to carry drinks out to my friends. When we tried to order room service the person who answered named McKenna was so overwhelmed she suggested trying to call back because she “didn’t know what to do” we ended up just buying alcohol from Whole Foods because we weren’t able to get them. It was also confusing to call room service and get the front desk time and time again. We had to request to have our room cleaned due to covid and on both days we got back to our room and they had forgotten. We asked for a third robe for our third guest and they took 6 hours to bring it to our room. When we called again to try and get drinks later she said she was trying to make eye contact with the hostess and get her attention but she couldn’t and would put me on hold so the blinking would remind her to call me back. What?! It seemed like everything we tried to do was limited. We also skipped several times because they did not attempt to shovel or salt any of the pathways around the resort which were rather treacherous to get into.

The covid procedures were also a complete joke and in violation. Servers and maids consistently taking off masks to speak to each other or to make drinks. Many guests were walking indoors without masks and I felt very unsafe. I know they can’t control the guests but at least set an example. The maintenance guy came to our room because the TVs were out due to the snow and he took his mask off in our room. It’s not that hard!

Our one saving grace for sure would be the hot tub...but it wasn’t because it was completely packed all day every day due to its size. It could really only fit 4 people at a time safely with covid.

The room had not been properly cleaned prior to our arrival either. Signs and tape from previous guests were all over the room and we had to get up on chairs and remove all of it. We are still finding remnants of banners and tape everywhere 4 days into our trip. Will never stay here again

We paid an average of $462/night with all taxes and the resort fee. We stayed four nights, so a bit pricey. The rooms are just as pictured and clean so no surprise there. However the price you pay is a bit high, since no breakfast is included and certain amenities like yoga are already full upon arrival. Also the on-site restaurant is pricey and the food a bit disappointing. The hallways need some maintenance along with the chairs in the fire pits which are badly worn a bit and in need of replacement. The front desk is limited so not the most efficient. You needed to wait a long time to get help. The best service was the shuttle one which could take you in town within a mile radius or so. The valet service friendly. Location was good, near restaurants, shops, and galleries.

For almost $500 / night, this place is incredibly overrated and I’m not sure how they are able to call themselves a “resort”. I would give Amara a “B-“ grade for experience overall and I would NOT recommend someone stay here. There are plenty of other places in Sedona. Below are some of the reasons why Amara is currently not a great experience:

1. Construction. We booked a “patio” room only to find that construction was going on outside our patio (this was not communicated when we booked). Actual machinery was being used less than 30 feet from our bed. We got here on a Thursday and for the first two days there was active construction with men walking by the room and patio all day. Effectively this patio we paid for was not usable. On the weekend the construction bins, materials, ladders, etc. were just left outside our patio area. Who would want to look at that while staying at a resort in Sedona?? There is other construction all around the property at the restaurant and spa.

2. Lack of amenities & options. First, the fitness center is under construction and unusable. That was not communicated when we booked. Second, there is only one restaurant on the property with set hours and no way to obtain snacks, coffee, etc. unless it’s with the restaurant. We got up every morning to go hiking in Sedona (like a like of visitors do!) and asked about coffee, breakfast to go, snacks, etc. the front desk said they had nothing even when we asked for coffee to go. They told us we’d have to go to a restaurant in town - which weren’t open for hours - or stop at a gas station. For a place that calls itself a “resort”, I’d say this is a huge miss.

3. Customer Service. We had a question about our itinerary and tried calling the front desk concierge about 7+ times. We got put on hold twice, one of the times we weren’t fully put on hold and heard the front desk employees just talking away on the background. We ended up figuring out the question ourselves but was really disappointed in the we service. When we finally got off hold and I explained to the front desk what a poor experience we had, the woman was defensive. Another day I went downstairs to ask a question at the front desk and the woman there was on the phone so I understand she couldn’t help me. Sadly I looked around and counted 4 other Amara employees, none of which tried to help. Lastly, guests would leave room service or food outside of their room to be picked up and it takes a long time for someone to pick up the dishes and left over food, leaving flies to swarm. We left our hotel room at 3 pm on Friday and the room across from us had a whole tray of plates and dishes out to be picked up. By 7 am the next morning (Saturday) the food was still out there.

I stayed here for a week away since I can work remotely from anywhere and needed a change in scenery. The place appears good enough form the outside. The long steep driveway was a pain but after visiting many of the eateries the extra walk was probably needed.

The main issue was I got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and there was a huge roach running around. I killed it, and didn't even mention it, but then there was another roach in my room in the morning. I informed the front desk and they sent a maint guy who sprayed poison in the bathroom and assured me that the cleaning crew would come clean the residual poison and disinfect the room...of course no cleaning ever happened. Even after the spray, there was still a baby roach running around.

I checked out early.

If you want to share your sleeping space with a bunch of roaches then Amara is your place. If you don't like roaches...stay someplace else.

I took a pic of the first roach after it scurried behind the trash can but I didn't get a pic of the other two.

We won a night at the Amara at a pre-COVID silent auction for charity and did not have the chance to use it before it expired. The resort was kind enough to let us use it late for a weeknight, and it all worked out that the kids had a day off of school on Friday. We had a two queen room that fit us pretty well considering. There is only complimentary valet as the driveway in is narrow and they really just want you coming down the hill from the street and then leaving your car for them to park in the terraced parking areas with some tight turns. David checked us in and my wife asked about the happy hour that happened when we were there years before. He noted that they were no longer a Kimpton but went boutique and then said he would take care of it and gave us two free margaritas in the resort restaurant. Excellent move on his part as it just started things off well. We ended up on the second floor overlooking the fire pits and out to the creek, which was nice. Pool was heated and the hot tub was hot. People were good about masks and keeping distance. Rooms have platform beds so don’t throw yourself down on them or you may bounce or make an odd noise as you realize you are not being absorbed as much as you might think. Rooms were quiet and comfortable without road noise, but you are also downhill and a decent distance from the main road. Carpets ate taking on some age but were decently maintained. Food is expensive but it is a Sedona resort. The experience was nice all around and I look forward to coming back again.

Jr Suite in dire need of update; couch and chair need replacing or re-stuffing, toilet paper holder needs repair. Absolutely no housekeeping services during pandemic. Everyone left to fend for themselves for anything they may need. While at pool, guests r allowed to play loud music on their own speakers with no consideration for others In the immediate area. Towels and chairs r hard to come by. Asked front desk clerk to have Jess V to call us to discuss our stay and have yet to hear from her, now four days and counting. If Amara expects a guest to continue to pay full price for their suite, then Amara should continue to provide full service to the guest. If not, rates should be adjusted accordingly. Resort was much more customer service driven when it was owned by Kimpton. Now, more money but less service.
