Yes the dogs are certainly characters- each have their own story :). So glad you enjoyed your stay, it was great meeting you. The coffee farm/ Toucan trail/orientation tour is something we like to do. A map is also provided so guests can explore the property on their own.

My girlfriend and I shot at this amazing costa rican mountain getaway this past winter. What an amazing property Maureen and John have. They were great hosts and were able take care of our large production group. We were so impressed that we stayed after the job for a few days and had a blast. Great views, great coffee, and...

It was a great experience for us providing location and food for the Aerie (American Eagle) shoot here last January. Even better, having you two stay on!

We had a simply fantastic time at Rio Magnolia. Between the magical jungle location, exquisite food, and delightful hosts, this place couldn't be more peaceful or relaxing. John and Maureen have created a truly special experience for their guests, whether its touring the coffee plantation, hiking on the trails surrounding the property, bird watching, swimming in the river and natural...

Glad you enjoyed the water slide! It is such a cool rock formation in the river about a 20 minute hike from the Lodge. Look forward to your return!

Maureen and John have built a very special place that they love sharing with small groups of guests. One really feels like one is staying with family. The food is very good and the staff are gracious and attentive to every need. It is comfortable without removing the sense of rugged remoteness that is part of the Costa Rican jungle...

This was easily our favorite lodge we stayed in during our 17-day Costa Rican road trip, and seems the country’s best-kept secret. Wish we had spend twice as long as we did. After a paved 30-some-minute drive up the hill from Dominical, you are met at a small market by the driver to take you 25 more minutes on a...

4 times to Panama. 6 times to Costa Rica with stays at some 30 lodgings, Rio M was one of the best, and certainly the most enjoyable. An idealic setting. Great owners, staff, food, view & accommodations. Had birding right off the balcony. Room was very large, great view, quiet & everything worked. With few guests we all dined with...

This was our ninth trip here, and it was amazing as always. Service is impeccable...they will do anything to make your stay better. I never get tired of the view. Absolutely beautiful. You can do day trips from here, but we don't do many. The lodge itself is the destination. Best place ever to completely unwind. No road noise....only the...

We stayed here last week for three glorious nights. If you'd like somewhere for a memorable stay as a couple, or a family with children, Rio is a fabulous choice. The food was nothing less than spectacular. Some of the best fine dining we've had anywhere, much less at a remote location! The location is breathtaking. From the rain-forest, to...

We spent the day here as a break from the beach. We toured the coffee plantations and waterfall. Had a swim in the pool and lunch. The hosts were extremely nice and friendly. Fantastic food. We didn't stay in the lodge but it was stunning. Gorgeous design and views are amazing. Great off the tourist path place if you really...
