My wife and I stayed for several nights in the Monkey House at Shelter from the Storm. Apart from the gorgeous setting and the first class accommodations (superbly decorated and equipped), Daryl and Donna are fascinating people with interesting life experiences that served as a source of inspiration in many ways. Staying here was much more than staying at an...

Return visit after 7 years. This time we spent a day chilling out around the property and walking the back roads in the morning photographing birds with a sunset visit to nearby Playa Hermosa. Nice addition of a gazebo/hammock with stunning railed overlook perched over the pacific. There is good bird diversity with howler and capuchin monkeys right at the...

We stayed at La Cuesta for a full week and loved every minute of it. The views from Shelter are incredible, ranging from the Pacific Ocean to sleepy monkeys. The owners were so helpful when it came to making reservations for restaurants and activities, both of which are very easy to get to from Shelter. We especially enjoyed Exotica restaurant,...

We have been to Costa Rica six times and have explored much of the country during our extended visits. We have also been fortunate to visit many beautiful places in other parts of the world. This property is the nicest place we have ever stayed. It rates 6 out of 5 stars. It is a unique tropical paradise with stunning...

The Shelter from the storm is a nice alternative to staying at a resort. We stayed in the Monkey House which is literally set in the Jungle. It had everything we needed for a true Costa Rican experience. The studio was much larger than we expected and it had a very functional well equipped kitchen for we we chose to cook....

My husband and I enjoyed another delightful stay at SFTS this past week. Donna and Daryl continue to do an excellent job of making guests feel welcome and comfortable! The extremely well appointed villas are always delightful. The Rancho is stocked with cold drinks on the honor system. The view is spectacular. The beaches of Dominicalito and Uvita are inviting...

My husband, my parents, and I recently took a trip to Costa Rica and one of the places we stayed was "Shelter from the Storm". We had a lovely time at this particular place and in Dominical as a whole. We weren't fortunate enough to meet Donna as she was out of town but we did get to spend time...

Amazing place run by amazing people ,nothing is to much trouble for Donna and Daryl ,they certainly made us feel very welcome from Margaritas in The Ranchero,to advice on places to go ,the monkey house is so quirky,we had a whole month there and could easily have stayed for two. We will return.

If there is any place on the planet deserving of the name Shelter from the Storm, this is it. This has been our home away from home for almost a decade. If we don’t make it back at least once a year, a part of me feels lost and unmoored. It’s a place to relax completely, or to be as...
