My wife, our 9 and 11 year olds, and I stayed 4 nights as a base to explore and take a trip to Corcovado after staying at Sabalo Lodge. Based on some of the previous reviews Pirates Cove exceeded our expectations. ~Our cabin was very comfortable for the 4 of us. ~The staff helping us plan our tours was much...

My husband and I own and manage a luxury vacation home in Manuel Antonio and wanted to spend some alone time on a snorkel and dive trip. We enjoyed the short drive on a great road about 1.5hr. to the Sierrpe water taxi and 1 hr. from there. Traveling from Manuel Antonio. The parking of our vehicle was easy and...

Keeping in mind the difficulty of reaching the place (I was looking for a remote place, I found it), the private wood cabin rooms are simple and rustic, but offer all the basics. The hammock by the seaside is a good place to relax. Pirate Cove's definitely has a "chalet" feel to it. The food is good and well prepared....

for a holiday with a difference, this is it. the difference being the location is fantastic and so safe for children - you still do have to keep an eye on them of course - mine are 7, 6 + 3 years! The staff are very friendly and very helpful also looking out for the kids and helping them. The...

We loved, loved, loved our stay at Pirate Cove at Drake Bay. We had no idea what to expect and everyday we kept saying "perfect". We are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoyed the laid-back decor and the lush jungle surroundings. The food was excellent and Susanne and Nelson were attentive and helpful with booking tours. When we expressed interest in a...

We just returned home from three weeks traveling Costa Rica. We stayed at the Pirate's Cove in Drake's Bay for three nights at the very begining of our trip. The manager was not very friendly, at least to Americans. If you happened to be German or Austrian her entire attitude changed and she was very friendly and accomodating to them....

Management response:

Subject: Pirate Cove Location: Drake Bay Title: Owner response ID#: 99459327 Here is a revision: First of all, the manager they spoke of is one of the owners, Susanne Pagano. She does not remember being unfriendly in any manner to these guests and she is not anti-American in any way(one of the other owners of Pirate Cove is American and...

Our family of four (parents and two grown children) traveled to Costa Rica for the first time. Our rooms were clean, we slept very well, our porches provided spectacular views and sounds, we ate wonderful meals and the staff was so gracious, we felt like family. We had many adventures and no one will admit their favorite. We did a...

Management response:

Thanks for your nice comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. I do need to clarify one point. No certificated diver ever needs to bring a letter from their doctor before they can dive. In the case of non-certified divers, all must fill out a medical questionnaire by PADI before we can take them diving, even under direct supervision of...

We had a wonderful family (adult children) trip to Pirate Cove. We really enjoyed all of our tours - especially Corcovado, the Mangrove tour, and ziplining in the Canopy (amazing experience!). We were not as impressed with the snorkeling and had wanted to dive but were not told in advance that we would need to bring medical releases. For new...

We really didn't know what to expect. Go to Sierpe, find somebody that will watch your car while you take off down the Sierpe River to Drake Bay. An hour and a half later you arrive at Pirate Cove, where the boat backs into shore, you climb out over the stern, somebody grabs your luggage and carries it up to...

This place left me with mixed feelings, partly because it may not have been what we were looking for, partly because it wasn't up to scratch in comparison to the rest of our Costa Rica holiday. However, whether this was down to the location, the weather, or the hotel, I'm not sure. This place did have it's good bits though,...
