It is difficult to find reasonably priced accommodations in Drake Bay. They are either at the low end, but not that livable or at the high end making it uneconomical. This place was reasonably good. The rooms are clean although closed in so that air conditioning is necessary. The food is included and was okay, not great. Staff were really...

We spent 3 nights at this remote resort on the Osa Peninsula. Beginning with our boat ride from Sierpe to our return there our experience was incredible. The staff was welcoming, the food delicious, the accommodations clean and spacious (although rustic), and tours amazing. Manuel, our tour guide from DBWR, was knowledgeable and passionate about his job. from snorkeling to...

We spend 3 nights here with the all family (5 of us), this was really good. The rooms and the food are somehow simple but you feel so well! Good balance between visiting the wildlife in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon. Nice beach around and canoeing activity. We hope we will return some days. A special thanks to...

We stayed 27 Dec for 4 nights and as a group of 12. The trip to Drake Bay by turbo prop plane landing on a gravel runway was an adventure in itself. Then 15 mins car journey where the wheel fell off (v low speed!) and then a boat trip across the bay gave an exciting start to a wonderful...

My husband and I went to Drakes Bay wilderness Resort in 1991. We remembered it being special, beautiful and a wonderful adventure, so we wanted to share it with our 18-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old son and their friends. Although there are now modern upgrades (built in pool) since 1991 it was as enchanting as we remembered it with fabulous...

My husband and I spent one week at the resort in early December 2016. We loved it! The rooms aren't fancy but comfortable and secure from bugs or any other critters. The food was excellent. I loved the fresh fruits at breakfast and made to order eggs, lovely lunches, happy hour appetizers and delicious fish (you get a choice of...

We stayed at the wilderness resort from 23rd Dec through to 27th. This family led resort is very quaint, however basic. The only way to the resort is via boat and it has breath taking scenery. We were greeted at reception by a very what appeared to be grumpy and borderline rude gentleman 'Brian' who we felt many occasions needed...

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, it really was a pleasure having you here. I am sorry that you got that impression of Bryan. Honestly, Bryan can be very shy and that may cause a wrong impression of him. I must say that I have had the pleasure of working alongside him in caring for the...

Getting there was a bit of an adventure since the Drake airport was out of service so we flew into Palma Sur then took an hour water taxi panga ride that was actually pretty fun. Lodge is simple but very accommodating and well cared for. Service was excellent from the wait staff to the gardener. Friendly and always ready to...

We fled to Costa Rica to escape the insanity surrounding the election. We had stayed here 22 years earlier and had often talked of returning. So happy we did. The location is unrivaled - on the bay at the mouth of the river. The cottages are at shore level, unlike the surrounding hotels where the rooms look out to the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since it was founded in 1985, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort has continued to be a family run business. Our focus has been to take good care of our guests so that they'll feel right at home. We try to be as flexible as possible, taking into consideration people´s needs and we do our very best to fulfill special requests. For instance, we will prepare meals for special diets. Furthermore, the hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the area. It has large open areas with a bounty of beautiful flowers, tropical plants, big mango trees, and beach almond trees that attract the raucous macaws. The property gives you the feel of being in a private island since the river flows along the backside of the property and the whole front side meets the ocean. In addition to this, most visitors come to us by boat and the access by land to the hotel is a small path, unreachable by car, that is submerged in a jungle. Best of all, there is a paradise like view of the bay and ocean, reflecting the deep blue sky and, beyond that, hills bound in lush forests. We offer all sorts of extras that help make our guests' stay more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, we include a full laundry service. Kayaks close to the water are always at our guests' disposal. We have a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, dock, and hammocks to relax under the shade of a tree with the cool ocean breeze blowing on you. From our hotel we take guests on adventures in snorkeling, hiking, diving, canoeing and whale watching. Visitors often see four species of monkeys, sloths, tapir, caiman and a myriad of birds, including the scarlet macaw, mangrove hawk, toucan... ... more   less
