The Auberge is perched on top of a top of a hill and the views from all sides are spectacular, offering views of the Vezere river meandering through rolling hills and the gorgeous villages of Sergeac and St Leon. Our room was lovely and spotlessly clean and breakfast was good but the music of a Lute playing we found very depressing...

Hello,we are surprised that you did not enjoy the meal since you didn't say so at the time and you seemed very happy. There is another menu with truffle omelette and the menus change everyday.I cannot understand how you can call my wild boar stew 'Bland',maybe your taste buds weren't functioning that day.Other guests made compliments the same evening and the...

Having visited in May we decided to fly to Bergerac and spend another week in this beautiful place. This time we had Room7 a large comfortable room off the courtyard with stone wall inside ,a large capacious wardrobe, a very comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. The air conditioning worked very well in the 40 degree heat! Food marvellous particularly...

Anita and Chris made us feel at home, gave info about the area and provided delicious meals. Walking sticks and maps available to explore nearby trails. Enjoy the terrace overlooking the river valley.

Charming old building with lots of character in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with fantastic views. Friendly and helpful owners and staff. Bedroom was quite small but very pleasant and comfortable. The 19 euro menu was delicious and great value. Evening meals are taken in the idyllic setting of the terrace gardens in good weather. The indoor restaurant is also very attractive...

We read lots of reviews on TripAdvisor before booking to stay 4 nights at Auberge Castel Merle, and found most of them pretty accurate so thanks to all the reviewers. The auberge is fairly easy to find and sits high above the river Vizere. Bi-lingual hosts were super-friendly. The views from the restaurant garden are stunning, looking past the prehistoric...

Dear Mr Jones,we are glad that you enjoyed your stay, but sorry you didn't enjoy our home cooking. The dish you refered to is a 'cassoulet' and the saussage is 'grey' because there is no artificial colouring, the meat is local duck. The menu of the day at 19€ is posted in the morning in french & english, and if you want to change...

We spent 2 nights here and were greeted by Anita who couldnt have been more helpful. Very easy to find, with stunning views over the river, its a great place to stay to explore Sarlat and Saint Leon etc. The auberge is quite basic - it hasnt been updated for many years which is charming but not quite as we...

After staying overnight at chain hotels in Poitiers and Perigeux my wife decided it was definitely time to try something a bit more small and friendly. As we were in the Sergeac area I put local hotels into sat-nav and the only one to appear was the Castel Merle. What a piece of luck, we both agree it was the...

I had rarely heard my husband speak of any hotel with such effusive compliments as he has of the Auberge Castel-Merle. We just had to return for our 5th stay because we have often dreamed of our 4 previous stays there …the gorgeous views, the wonderfully delicious food & the warm hospitality of our hosts, Anita and Christopher, who are...

My husband and I have visited Castel Merle many times. It is our favourite place to stay in the area in fact we wouldn't stay anywhere else. The rooms are comfortable beautifully decorated in warm peach tones to blend with the buttery colour of the stone and have their own individual touches. Many of the pictures were painted by the...
