We stayed in this lovely inn on our last night in Ireland due to the easy drive from there to the airport in Dublin and were pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. The rooms were very well appointed and very comfortable, Both the farm setting and the decor make us feel like we had stepped back in time to a simpler and more peaceful way of life. The view from our window of the farm and Lough Owel in the background was delightful. Aideen was wonderful in not only suggesting a place for dinner, but in helping with our flight and rental car situation the next morning. The best part of the entire stay, however, was the delicious breakfast with homemade preserves, scones, breads, and more. We would highly recommend Lough Owel Lodge to anyone and hope to stay here again!

From the moment we drove up the driveway, we were awestruck by the stunning beauty. Being in the woods by the lake was a nice change from the wide open country. Every window you look out of has a spectacular view. The lodge is immaculate and so spacious! The bedrooms are huge. Our room had a four poster bed and a loveseat, bathroom clean and modern (many B & B's have ancient plumbing and fixtures) with toiletries included.
Meals were perfect, simple and filling, just the ticket when traveling on the road and doing a lot of driving. Our hostess was also helpful with resources around the area. She had menus from local restaurants, and ideas on sites to see. Our itinerary had been up ended as a result of a change in our reservations. We had to leave a previous B & B a night early and the stay there was quite traumatic. Aideen was super helpful with ideas for alternative sights to see. She suggested taking the train to Dublin for the day. We took her advice, and what a perfect day we had! My husband got a day off from driving and we got to see Dublin without all the hassles. All in all, we got the best of both worlds-modern amenities and professionalism of a fine hotel with the warm intimacy of a well run B & B.

This was our last stop on a week-long trip and it was wonderful! The Lodge is set in a beautiful location in the Midlands; far enough from town to make for a quiet getaway but close enough to have some restaurants, nightlife and services close by. An October stay made it all the more pleasant with the changing leaves and the fresh cool air!

Our room was very spacious and exceptionally clean with a separate small sitting area. The en-suite bath was clean and sizable. The bed was comfortable. The flat screen TV had sufficient programming options.

The hosts were pleasant and accessible and the beautiful home was open- we could use the sitting room and dining area at any time of day or night. Breakfast was made to order and served in the lovely dining area!

We would highly recommend and would definitely stay again if we were nearby!

I am not sure how they managed to score a 2011 Karen Brown recommendation sticker to put next to the door. Lough Owel Lodge has surely seen brighter days and although WiFi is available upstairs by the guest rooms, everything (including the router) has a very worn appearance. The innkeepers are pleasant but certainly not the jovial Irish we've come to expect having experienced lovely hospitality around the country. Lough Owel room has a queen bed but it's hard as a rock with a little tiny tele so far up high that you can hardly see what the programme is you are watching. Baths are clean but dated as well.

What an awesome B&B. Almost don't want others to know how good this place is.
Aideen is quite a character, we arrived late, and she proceeded to tell me off !! Worried we'd been in an accident, was a bit put out at getting told off, but didn't last long when we realised what a fantastic person she was. She made us a pot of tea and flapjack when we arrived, which was most welcome. Also got to park the bike under cover, which is great when the weather is not.
The room over looking the Lough Owel was brilliant, never been in a B&B of such high standard, better than most hotels. Very clean and the bed was huge and very comfy, slept as good as at home.
Breakfast of French toast, bacon and maple syrup was delicious, not huge but very tasty and there was so much more on offer, scones, banana cake, melon, cereals, we did not go hungry.
Fantastic B&B and a brilliant host, asked if she'd adopt us so we could come and stay and work for her!!!
Will be planning any trips to Ireland around this place, can't wait to visit again. (This time I will phone ahead if running late !!!)

Great countryside location overlooking Lough 0wel. We were well please with the
whole deal. Rooms were spotless, breakfast was very good, Large picture windows
overlooking a working farm, and a lovely lough. The hosts were both helpful and
charming, so we wouldn't hesitate in recommending this location.

My mother and two sisters traveled Ireland and stayed exclusively in B&Bs using vouchers. I did lots of homework on Tripadvisor to decide where to stay. We loved the Lough Owel Lodge! If you are looking for a contemporary stay then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a warm, homey, genuine example of Irish hospitality, then this is the place for you. We even got lost and the she (the owner) came and got us and led us back to the house! Lovely country estate. Lots of room to wander if you have the time. Good breakfast. The Lodge really has the feeling that you are staying in someone's home...not in a home retrofitted to make money. She also had good recommendations for places to go out for the evening. If we ever make it back to Mullingar, we will be staying at the Lodge.

As you come up the driveway, you are impressed immediately by the house itself. And then you meet Aideen and you are doubly impressed. She immediately made us feel at home, showed us the very large dining room and the guest lounge. He husband helped us up the stairs with our luggage and when the door was opened, we were blown away. Huge room with US king sized bed, sofa and chairs and a wall of windows that over looked the lovely grounds in front of the house. This room was over the double car port. The bed was so comfey but when I tell you it was a 4 posterm canopied bed will you believe me? So much room. Breakfast was a delight each of the two days we stayed. Aideen makes her own scones - not store bought. It is a working farm but the animals are far off. As you sit for breakfast at the window table, you can watch the lough, see the birds flying, farm animals, and the commuter train as it hugs the lough and you never hear it. I would recommend this B&B in a heart beat!!!

This was a wonderful find for us. We spent our second to last day here at were very pleased with the entire visit - wish we had stayed longer. We were greeted by the owner who immediately served us tea and scones around 5:30pm. She also was in contact with us prior - very responsive.

Our room was #5 and fantastic for the three of us. We have a 3 year old who had her own small room with two double beds off our sleeping area. SUCH LOVELY BEDDING! Warm and cozy. Great TV/sitting area/clean. Bathroom was amazing - LONG tub - which is my favorite. Spacious. Well lit. Amenities all we needed.

The farm itself has lovely animals and a lake. We put on the "house wellies" to explore the farm and enjoyed meeting the donkeys. Our daughter loved petting them! Be careful though - they do nibble a bit! Lovely covered area to sit at night if drizzling. Quiet. Delicious breakfast.

Pros:
Comfort
Spacious
Privacy
Unique
Near a great town and restaurants
Great owner
Lovely rooms
Easy parking

Cons
Wifi was slow (so what?!)

If you are not looking for "set back" and quiet B&B, and want to be in the city - we suggest staying downtown Mullingar. But, why would you do that when this place is so great?! Take the time and relax. Go here! We will be back.

Honestly, one of our favorite places and delightful. Wish we had gotten the picnic lunch they offer. We highly recommend this place - especially if you are flying out of Dublin next day.

Ps. we went to Oscars in town.... and had a great pizza/salad and kids meal. Affordable and great service.

Located just 55 minutes from Dublin Airport, this makes for a good final night in Ireland. It's a lovely working farm farmhouse that also hosts guests. The proprietors are welcoming and friendly. The bucolic landscape makes for a perfect last night on the Emerald Isle. The breakfast choices include 'full Irish' to French toast and many more in-between. Private access to the lough through the sheep & cow pastures is not to be missed. Mullingar provides many fine restaurants and pubs for the final evening, and there was also traditional music in town--we were just too exhausted to partake....
--One final note, this listing seems to be filed under 'hotel' when it is really a B&B in a farmhouse.
