Nestled in the heart of town, the Greville Arms Hotel garners appreciation for its ample amenities, including delectable cuisine and cozy rooms with serene verandas, not to mention the playful teepees that delight the little ones. While opinions on value vary, guests often commend the hotel's cleanliness and comfortable beds, despite occasional dining area cleanliness issues.
The prime location with secure parking is a significant draw, as is the welcoming atmosphere, punctuated by a lively weekend vibe. However, room experiences differ, with some guests encountering modern comfort and others facing space constraints.

Stopped in Mullingar on way home from our four day road trip out west. Does not look like much from outside,on not finding anywhere that looked appealing on a Monday afternoon we decided to give it a go. Inside this is a beautifully appointed comfortable hotel. We were kindly directed to a luxuriously type function room with an amazing carvery/lunch/deli type set up. We had the sandwich of the day and another turkey breast salad one. Both were really fresh and tasty with premium meats being used. Lady on service was particularly helpful and friendly. Nice to hear friendly chat between herself and the chef-great communication. This place is a treat to sit in such lovely relaxing surroundings and enjoy a great lunch. Place was busy with locals, lots of huge carvery meals being served, seems like the place to go in Mullingar. Well done to all the restaurant staff at the Greville we shall definitely return😀

My Mam and her partner met here almost 20 years ago. This weekend they returned to get married and what a truly magical experience it was from start to finish. John and Ann alongside all of the staff made organising a wedding as stress-free as possible. I genuinely cannot begin to commend them enough for their hard work, kindness and genuine excitement for my Mam and her new husband. We had a large group of family and friends of all ages, stay for the weekend and each of them sang the praises of the staff, their rooms and the quality of the food. We had the warmest of welcomes and the staff where so attentive. The hotels greatest assest are it's amazing staff - each of them went above and beyond but I must single out Ann who is just an amazing woman and has a genuine want to create amazing memories. Her thoughtfulness and care where way beyond anything we could have expected. I would highly recommend to anyone, particularly if you're looking for an intimate, relaxed family event.

I had been this hotel a few months ago for coffee and enjoyed the hotel for it's service So we decided to come back and stay for a night, our group stayed in another hotel close by, we should have gone with them, The single worst hotel I have ever stayed anywhere, I really felt sorry for my sister who had the missfourtune who booked it, Hard to believe that any one gave this a good review, maybe they are connected to hotel The complaint I have is that rooms advertised are not the ones displayed on hotel website The room we got was abysmal, cramped, dirty, not been refurbished in a longtime,so probably cannot blame cleaners, Could hear noises from other rooms plus if you like music pounding all night up to 3am , Bathroom cracked tiles, mould around bath, When I went down to reception to complain, they had no other rooms available, that was that, if you don't like it you can go somewhere else if you want, So we decided to leave it,and stay, we were meeting friends in hotel close by so we got ready and decided to have a drink in bar before we left Another big mistake, went down to bar, was not greeted by anyone, waited a least 15 minutes for service got none, staff just kept walking past us and just ignoring us More interested in talking amongst themselves and serving regulars only, seem quiet un_interested in looking after guests ,so we just got up and left, Next morning after a bad night's sleep we complained to reception, was told no manager on duty, but will get manager to ring us, still waiting, We went for breakfast which we were told was up to 11.30 ,went to get our breakfast just after 11 ,nothing available really, a few greasy dried up rashers a sausage We were told it was closing and getting ready for a busy lunch, we were not asked if we were residents, We just left, Sum it up ,this was an appalling stay, room and service, I would discouraged anyone considering to stay here.

The decor in restaurant is beyond somber and quiet depressing, Ordered wine to start only arrived at main course Bread on table when we sat down I say it was on table all day Soup salty, mushrooms not cooked, steak ok but we asked for fries and got brown ISH garlic pototes and a massive amount of veg I think there was 2 managers on duty, they were running around the restaurant ,just serving customers while other staff behind coffee counter, No apologies about wine arriving at main course , Faulty Towers , you just had be here to witness it, First time here and it will become last time, There are better restaurants in mullingar

I am writing this review because I regularly go to the greville with my family.but the last few times it has not been great, Firstly today we had chicken it was rubber and tasteless veg not seasoned dried up and served on a cold plate, my daughter had ceaser salad, lettuce was brown on edges, bacon looked like it was 2 weeks old and very little sauce ,then took ages to get to till to pay I don't like complaining, but this has happened on our last few visits, Come on Greville , it's a pity, we loved coming here. But will be going elsewhere .

I went to the James Joyce restaurant last night with 7 other family members. Our booking was for 8.30pm, we were seated at 9pm. Our orders were taken and at 9.50 pm the starters came out. I had ordered one of the chicken, leek and carrot soups on the menu. When the soup came out 30 mins later it was a simple vegetable soup as I was told the one that I ordered was not available. I decided to just wait for my main course as I could have veg soup any day of the week and I wanted and was paying for better. Then came the main course, I ordered rack of lamb as I love the way it falls off the bone and is so tender. Firstly it didn't really look like a rack of lamb, then I cut into it with the "steak knife" that came on the plate with the lamb. Blood just poured out of it and left a pool on the plate, it was taken back and the same piece was given back to me over 10 mins later, the potatoes and veg that were left separately on the table had started to get cold and the lamb after being cooked twice was too tough to cut and eat. I was not charged as I didn’t eat any of it but I would never go there again. I had been looking so forward to a rare night out and left hungry and with a headache after sitting for nearly 2 hours waiting on my table to finish their meal. I had to get food on my way home. Such a letdown, I had my wedding there and the food was lovely. Standards have dropped drastically. 40 eurs for veg soup and tough substandard cheap mutton dressed as a rack of lamb is disgraceful!

The Greville is situated conveniently right in the center of Mullingar town. It is an older hotel that is desperately in need of refurbishment. The windows are wood and old, if it’s windy you’ll hear them rattle and they offer no insulation against sound or weather. The carpet on the stairs and in the bedroom should probably have been replaced a long time ago. The bathroom is a descent size but could also do with an overhaul. If your neighbor is showering at the same time you are you can expect to experience dramatic changes in water temperature. Breakfast is served in the carvery and depending on what time you decide to eat you will have to do battle with people who are coming in off the street to dine in too. If there’s a que and you forget something first time you’ll have to rejoin que to get whether else you need so be sure you get everything on your tray all at once. The wifi worked downstairs but didn’t work in my room. I think giving a 3 rating is generous and that is primarily for its great location.

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Greville Arms Hotel. We appreciate your constructive comments. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment at the moment. The Lobby/Reception area, Cafe/Coffee Shop area and our Decourcy Suite are completed. The next phase which has commenced includes new windows on the front of the hotel, new carpet on the starirs to our accommodation and painting on the corridors of our bedrooms. I appreciate your comments in reference to our breakfast service and this is something that I am discussing with the breakfast supervisor to improve this area. I look forward to welcoming back to the Greville Arms Hotel in the near future and you can enjoy our newly refurbished hotel.

If you want to stay in a modern white sleek polished marble type hotel avoid this as it is kinda old fashioned, quirky, warm and homely.
The staff, the service, the rooms and the food were all fantastic and every time you go in and out of the hotel you notice something different to James Joyce sitting smiling at you from behind glass in one landing to a lovely smoking area/beer garden/oasis along a corridor!!! And there is even the smallest quirkiest museum in a quiet little corner that I wished I had more time to spend in.
We had food in the restaurant and there were 11 of us staying in the hotel and we were all very very happy with our meals - normally hard to please everyone!!! Also the residents bar was happy serve us as long as we wanted and did so with a smile.
There are usb&plug socket boxes beside the beds which are just fantastic - all hotels should have them!!
I would 100% recommend this hotel, only people it may not suit is anyone who can’t do steps/stairs as there is no lift and plenty of steps!! 😊

We recently stayed at the Greville Arms and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel retains its historic charm and is clean and comfortable. Our room was well furnished, with a good mattress. The food was very good and well priced..
Our experience was excellent so I dont understand why some guests wrote negative reviews of the hotel .Staff were friendly and helpful and the lobby, pub and restaurant are well-decorated and charming We received very good value for the price of our room, meals and drinks. .

The normal check in time is 3pm. To get access to rooms any earlier depends totally on how busy Hotel was the night before. I feel sure that if you call or email them they will do their very best to accommodate you. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Ireland especially if it is your first trip here. Safe travels.
