Booked with my wife this hotel through Jet2 from 20th May for 2 weeks in a Deluxe side sea view room , the room allocated was on the 10th floor in tower 2 with a lovely view over the sea and inland Fuengirola, robes and slippers and tea/coffee making facilities all included with this room type. The room was cleaned daily and towels changed if required, to had a multitude of channels to choose from many in English. My one gripe with the room was I thought there could be a bit more drawer space like a bedside drawer, but that is just a minor thing. We were booked bed and breakfast and found restaurant staff efficient and friendly and breakfast buffet choice was fairly good, no British sausages though if you are looking for a typical English breakfast, you have to pick either early or late sitting for breakfast at check in. Outside bar areas were very nice and bar food was good and drink prices reasonable. Had feared problem with lifts being on top floor but generally the lifts didn’t cause us any issues. My reason for not giving this hotel a 5 rating was the pool area didn’t open until 10 AM and unbelievably people were queuing from around 0915 to grab a sun bed and many were left unoccupied for hours although there are notices everywhere that state only reserving for up to 30 minutes was allowed, this was definitely not enforced by any of the hotel staff or lifeguards, this wouldn’t bother me too much if there were enough beds but that didn’t appear to be the case for the size of hotel if it was busy which it was. Can’t comment on the weekend entertainment as we never experienced it, but noted there was some at the weekends. I would definitely consider returning if the pool issues were resolved

We have just returned from a last minute family trip to the Occidental Fuengirola. This was our first stay at this hotel and what an excellent experience we had. The hotel has a very good location, a very short walk to the beach (opposite the hotel) and no more than a 10 minute walk into the centre of Fuengirola. The hotel is very international giving a really good relaxed feel. We found it very easy to find a sun bed by the pool in the morning and even in the mid afternoon we could find free beds. The sun beds on the beach were €7 for a day and were very comfortable as an alternative. The Occidental was very clean and well maintained. The rooms were very clean and tidy, being cleaned once a day to a very high standard. The lovely lady who cleaned our rooms each day was very good. Reception, restaurant and bar staff were all lovely and friendly. The food offering, either in the main restaurant, Breeze, or the pool bar was always good value for money and consistent in quality. We were looking for a quieter more relaxing hotel and the Occidental met our expectations. For the whole week we didn’t hear any late night noise which was perfect for a family trip. Overall a very enjoyable experience. We will return! Gracias!

We recently spent 10 days here in a modern room featuring a side sea view, large bed, small fridge and room safe. There was also a large wall mounted tv with a huge selection of channels in a range of languages (but who wants to watch TV on holiday?) A charge of 3 euros a day is levied for use of the safe. A balcony with comfortable cushioned chairs overlooked the pool and garden area. The spacious bathroom accessed via a sliding opaque glass door no lock) featured a rainfall shower (no bath). One tiny criticism is that the liquid soap container was fixed to a wall some distance from the wash hand basin. Not a problem for us as we prefer to use our own solid soap. Complimentary toothbrushes and paster were also provided and the room was services promptly each day,
All of the public areas, as well as the hotel bedroom, we found spacious, comfortable with plenty of seating, and kept spotlessly clean. In the early evenings, the bar could become busy with groups of loud male UK golfers who congregated to drink and vape close to the service area.
Our rate included breakfast and buffet dinner and both offered a wide selection of dishes in the restaurant. Breakfast featured traditional cooked breakfasts, to cheeses, fruit, breads and cereals as well as churros and other pastries. In common with other Spanish hotels you could start your day with a glass of chilled cava if you chose! Dinner service featured show cooking and a fabulous selection of rice dishes each evening as well as more traditional meat, fish and vegetable dishes. We happened to dine there on Andalucia day when the hotel featured specialities of the area accompanied by a complimentary glass of Malaga wine. Dinner was followed by live music in the lounge area.
We returned from our break fully relaxed and refreshed after our stay in a most comfortable hotel where all of the staff we encountered were helpful, professional, well trained and service- orientated bringing credit to the Barcelo group.

The pool opens at 10 am, which means that one has to queue up to get a space. If you come later in the day, there is a chance that there will be no room at all. Although it is indicated that you are not allowed to occupy places by putting down towels, this does happen in practice. If you come later in the day, there is a chance that there will be no room at all. Partly due to crowds and partly due to people who have made a reservation but are not there. Luckily the pool boy is fantastic (Juan). He helps until he can make a place for us.
The bathroom has frosted glass openings on two sides through which light shines. This means that your fellow traveler will also wake up at night when the light in the bathroom is turned on which is quite annoying. The closet space for a 13 night stay is far too little. It is impossible to hang long garments because the height is approximately 1.13 meters.
The breakfast and dinner room hardly has air conditioning, making it hot and stuffy. The evening buffet is reasonable, although the food is often lukewarm when you eat. Staff works extremely hard. Sometimes a little too hard, because your plate is pulled away from under you while you are still taking the last bite.
What is also striking is that English is suddenly readable during the assessment. The hotel itself has mainly Spanish-speaking staff. They all work very hard, my compliments. That's probably why not all of them are friendly. A compliment to the lady who helped me arrange my boarding pass.
In summary; it is a well renovated hotel (we also went there a few years ago when it was still called Los Pyramides). But we are looking forward to another destination for a new holiday.

Nice enough hotel but we did have a few issues. Firstly our check-in was the most unwelcoming we have experienced. No welcome drink which is pretty standard now at 4* and above accommodation. The male receptionist made little effort to explain the runnings of the hotel to us even though he did ask if it was our first visit. When asked questions, he seemed reluctant to make an effort to be helpful. We thought having to pay €2 to change pool towels unless you kept them for 3 days seemed a bit strange and not common practice in any other hotels we have stayed in. The room is tastefully styled in a very minimalist way, but neither body lotion nor boxed tissues are provided. Standard of cleaning was very good. The breakfast buffet and pool areas are very cramped and don't cater well for the large number of guests. There are not enough sun loungers for the number of guests wanting to use them which results in a queue forming before the pool opens. If you are lucky enough to get one of the nylon mesh beds you will quickly find they do require padded mattresses for decent support which are not supplied. Our main problem with this hotel is that we thought we were paying (quite a lot) for a relaxing 4* experience. However the reality is that the hotel caters for large groups - wedding, golfers etc and this comes with a lot more noise with groups dominating the pool area. So in summary I would say it’s a good enough choice if you like a lively venue - just the wrong choice for us.

Review stay hotel Occidental in Fuengirola • Room is not that big there is little space to hang clothes. Only 1 single cupboard with a safe on a shelf. And under the desk section 3 drawers. • You have to pay € 3.00 per day to use the safe. We have certainly not experienced this anywhere in the last 15 to 20 years. • The shower room often smelled musty. Toilet paper is very thin and narrow. Things like make-up cotton wool and ear sticks etc. are only provided once. • The room is very noisy. There is a lot of noise from the hallway, especially when people from the city come back late at night and have eaten and had something to drink, the loud speech is very disturbing. Doors slam shut. • The hallways look very basic; just white without any decoration on the walls. The room also has no decoration. This makes everything very sterile and does not give the impression that you are on holiday. • Maintenance aspects: In the shower, the sealant on the edges looks a bit old here and there. The sliding door to the balcony does not move well and needs to be lubricated. The lift doors and posts of the doors have the necessary damage. • There is a watering system for the plants (sansevierias) at the large swimming pool, but it is apparently not used, because all the plants that are placed against the wall - in containers - are dead, which gives a poor impression. • The breakfast is fine and is well supplemented. The taste of the tea by means of tea bags needs improvement. • Dinner - if you do not have half board - costs € 25.00. That dinner is self-service and is quite extensive and good. You also get a glass of wine and water with it. • Staff is nice and helpful.

My friend and I booked this hotel in January to stay for a week at the end of August. We upgraded to ensure we had the best experience and booked 2 sea view suites. We expected to have the views from the photos shown on both their and Jet 2 websites. However we were given suites which overlooked a backstreet and a “ brown site area “ on top of a public car park - before the main road and then the sea view ! The hotel is in a good location , apparently recently refurbished. It has a bright wide clean reception area and that’s about all the good things I can say about the hotel The staff all appear to be miserable and unhappy in their jobs No welcome smiles , no “ good morning/ good night” keep heads down - no eye contact. The worst customer service ever - with the exception of the cleaning staff and the breakfast egg chef ! 🧑🍳 The suites were generally clean and spacious. The bathroom excellent. The huge beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, but, the couch/ bed settee in room 315 was dirty , the arms badly stained. There is no long hanging wardrobe space The right wardrobe door was hanging off its tracks The coffee machine was filled with water , ? how long was in there. The coffee cups had cracks and brown stains - left out to be changed and replaced with a further cracked one ! The “ free bar” had one water 2 beers and juice - there was no daily water put into our rooms . The in- built safe had to be paid for at the rate of 3 euros per day - shocking when paying a premium for the room There were no drinking glasses in the room, plastic tumblers only from the bathroom The air conditioning could not be controlled, the rooms were always too hot 🥵 Thankfully we’d only booked for bed and breakfast, which was “ok” enough choice from the buffet for most people. The food at the outdoor area was questionable the portion sizes and costs varied ( for the same food) depending on the day and the staff! The pool bar was one member of staff , who couldn’t have worked any slower if she’d tried The drinks also varied on the maker - one day excellent cocktails- next day poor and watery. I had high expectations going to the hotel as the Barcelo group has a good name - but will return to the Meliá hotels as far superior in all ways .

Lovely hotel. Staff are very helpful. Rooms had air-con and fridge - super-king size bed was comfortable and bathroom was large (ours had shower cubicle) TV channels from 66-87 were in English which was useful as lots of channels were showing Olympic Games 2024 in Paris during our holiday.
Great breakfasts - big choice of hot and cold foods and drinks. They have a Kelloggs corner at the rear of restaurants with cornflakes, prunes, yoghurt pots and selection of bread. Microwave was useful to warm up granddaughters food.
2 pools are small for size of hotel. We always managed to get a sun lounger but i did see some arriving at lunchtime struggled to find one. The gate to pool area opened daily at 10am. There was no stampede but there was often a small queue for those wishing to have a specific sun lounger location. A Lifeguard by towel station all day.
We were staying Bed & Breakfast. But used hotel outdoor restaurants at lunchtime for snacks and meals. The indoor restaurant does serve meals at dinner time. You can pre-book meal there - bookings taken at reception. Can also hire beach towels, kettles etc at Reception.
Hotel very kindly offered free treats to its guests each day of our stay eg small pots of hot paella one day, freeze pops around the pool another day. Small pots of ice cream today. Staff walk amongst the sun-loungers handing out the freebies with napkins/spoons if needed. Lovely gesture-appreciated by all the guests.
No hotel music or entertainment around pool during day. However Hotel did arrange a different type of entertainment most evenings between 9-11pm…. A Musician, singers, or dancers etc
Outside the hotel are lots of bars, shops, cafes and mini supermarkets - similar to most Spanish resorts in this area, for those who wish to venture outside the hotel.
No hoards of golfers at hotel. When we stayed it was mainly couples and families (some had extended family members with them) Very friendly hotel. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Guests all seemed to be enjoying their stay. No complaints. Well done Occidental Hotel.
The only negative… is the size of lifts. They are small. 2 guest lifts for each section of hotel. Each take 6 people maximum but for anyone trying to get up/down several floors with a pushchair we found they may have to wait a while before they can get access to a lift, especially during busy times of the day (mainly breakfast time, early evenings)

Stayed for 10 nights for Christmas and New Year celebrations with my wife. From checking in and checking out our experience was exceptional. Our room was 828 on the 8th floor, which got the sun every afternoon. Our room was cleaned daily to a very high standard, fresh towels daily, and regular bed linen changes. The restaurant is excellent. We were half board a great selection of food at dinner and breakfast. The Christmas and New Year gala dinners were excellent, with a free bar on New Years Eve. Bar service very friendly with reasonable prices. We had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend this hotel, we will definitely return.

Yes, I stayed in a Junior Suite, you entered into the lounge area, with sofa bed, with the bathroom to one side, before going through to the bedroom, not a massive suite but very comfortable, with balcony and sea views.
There are more places to choose from in the Fuengirola area.
