We made a slightly last minute booking for a family meal for New Year's Day. Arriving at the pub we were rather surprised at the brusque manner of the bar staff when we checked in and ordered pre-lunch drinks; luckily we were able to go straight through to the restaurant where the warm welcome and smiling faces of the staff...

Thanks for your very positive review, what a shame you were greeted by grumpy bar staff, however, I am not entirely convinced that this review is posted to the correct establishment as we did not serve 'roast of the day' on New Year's Day.

The menu is expensive, the service on both occasions we used it was slow and indifferent, so much that we went home for desert and coffee. We know they are there to take advantage of the tourist trade but you do not have to alienate everyone including the tourists. Did have a good venison burger and beer.

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your previous visits to The Globe. I take umbrage at your insinuation that we 'take advantage of the tourist trade' and even that we 'alienate everyone'. I don't think you would be reading such largely positive feedback on a forum such as this if we alienated our customer base.

We stayed for two nights in between Christmas & new year with our dog. Jack was very welcoming on arrival, we had a nice room, maintained to a high standard with a dog bed, bowls and treats for our beagle Rocky which was a nice surprise. Other than an audible hum at night which I think was from the heating...

Nice place, nice atmosphere. Chose the Harissa Lamb. Three bites of lamb for £21.50 isn't value for money. Spoke to a member of staff and was told expensive cut. Not what I was expecting!! Huge dissapointment after reading reviews. Will not come back.

I am saddened to learn that you didn't enjoy your Harissa lamb for dinner. It is true that the chefs use an expensive cut of meat for this dish but please forgive me if I point out to other readers that it is an exaggeration to say that it was a mere 'three bites'. This is the only complaint I...

Had a great Christmas lunch with a large group. We did pre order and it went without fail. Great turkey and decent serving the desserts were also great. But the cheese board was a little disappointing. But by then we were pretty stuffed. Service was very friendly and accommodating. I would go there again.

After staying here last year for a weekend break which we thoroughly enjoyed,we decided to book for this Christmas! As there were seven of us we chose to book their lovely cottage, which is located a mere two minute walk away across The Buttlands. This enabled us to be a little more flexible with our days. The cottage is beautiful, very spacious and...

It was our pleasure to entertain you in Spicer's Holiday House on The Buttlands as well as at The Globe, a hop, skip and a jump from each other, mixing it up worked well for you and the family and it is pleasing to hear that you enjoyed your time with us so much. We look forward to welcoming you...

I've never been a fan of The Globe because the location just off the Buttlands at Wells doesn't appeal and there are so many tables outside it tends to look like a street café no matter how many renovations and refurbishments there have been over the years. The staff are nice enough and the service is good but the restaurant...

Always visit here for a meal when we visit Wells. I think some changes had been made since our last visit...it looks very smart. The menu was a little pricey we felt for a lunchtime but service and food good. Portion was big for me personally and maybe a smaller size dish would be a good idea for smaller eaters,...

I don't believe we have got any smarter since 3 years ago when we rec=novated but I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. Preparing different sized portions for everyone would be virtually impossible to do for the hard working kitchen team, but I am glad you enjoyed your meal.
