We had stayed at this Hotel about 7 or 8 years ago. We were looking for an overnight stop on our way to visiting relatives in Torquay. After searching suitable Hotels I stumbled over the White Hart and managed to get a good deal. We were not disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable and had all you would need....

Many thanks for your kind review. As you say, somewhere old and full of character like the White Hart, does have its quirks! Every room is different, some with more headroom than others. We will always do our best to make our guests comfortable and would be happy to move you to a room with a full height shower, do...

Many thanks for your kind review. Moretonhampstead is a very handy place, both as a 'stop off' point for Cornwall and, of course, for exploring Dartmoor. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

We booked a 1night stay in the main hotel, after a days walking on Dartmoor . We arrived soggy and wet to a warm reception in beautifully decorated interior. Our room overlooked the rear or hotel so was quiet, with views over rooftops out to farmland.Room itself excellent, large bed and well appointed.Bathroom slightly shabby but everything spotlessly clean. We...

We had a wonderful visit. This is probably my 12th visit. Karen and her team create seemingly effortless relaxation and convivial ambience. It looks easy but of course it is not. Hard work, attention to detail etc etc. I don't really do many reviews on Tripadvisor or elsewhere but felt compelled to lodge this one. Karen even allowed me to...

Stayed one night. Had a terrific meal in the bar area with the dog. At breakfast they asked if he could have a sausage! Very comfortable bed, great location for Dartmoor walks around Castle Drogo. Everyone friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your kind review. Being in the heart of Dartmoor and great walking country, we are most definitely a dog-friendly hotel! We like to try and cater for our canine visitors' needs just as much as our human ones. We hope you will come and stay with us again soon.

Celebrated my 72nd last night. We dined in their bar and they Coped very well with our collective gluten free, lactose free and pescatarian diets. Friendly banter from our friends serving us all helped to make the evening a great success.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Hart Hotel is a traditional old posting house at the centre of the small moorland town of Moretonhampstead set within the spectacular Dartmoor National Park. Under new ownership since early 2012, the White Hart Hotel dates back to 1639 and this historic Grade II listed building is being sympathetically refurbished to provide all modern comforts within a traditional setting. Our comfy sofa-filled lounge has a roaring log fire where you can relax and combine the delights of a traditional cream tea with the convenience of free wifi. An ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area of Devon, the White Hart has 20 well-appointed bedrooms in the main hotel and a further eight in a separate mews building. Our restaurant features the freshest local, seasonal produce cooked in a style that lets the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. A free house, we stock a range of local real ales and have a handpicked wine list. DOGS - Dogs and Dartmoor go together. Dartmoor is great walking country and dogs are welcome everywhere in the hotel, except in the dining room. CYCLING - Dartmoor is a great area for cycling and we can offer secure bike storage, and have a drying room. SHOOTING - The area is popular for the sport of shooting and the Hotel is used regularly by shooting parties and we have a gun safe and have a drying room. GOLF - There are a number of good golf courses nearby and we can offer special rates with Bovey Castle Golf course, just 2 miles away, and Okehampton Golf Course, 12 miles away. ... more   less
