Reminded me of days gone by. Very basic accommodation, no en suite, but serious character and I enjoyed the conversation at the bar. Pubs are still the ultimate bastion of British democracy where people should be unafraid to say what they think about anything and everything. Beer well cared for, breakfast fryup solid English fare. Enjoyed my stay, and super...

Drunken sarcastic landlord. Breakfast to early and not negotiable. No other customers staying or using the pub. No lock on door, sharing bathroom with owners. Room fairly clean unlike the rest of the establishment. could do with a lick of paint outside. Good luck with this if you go.

We stopped at the Green Man at 3.20 pm on a Sunday, the half way point in our walk from Belchford to Scamblesby and back. I am reviewing this pub based on our experience as bar customers only. Positive - it was a lovely day and we enjoyed our refreshing shandies at a table outside. We were the only customers...

Positives: beer was decent quality, and evening meal was fine for the cheap price. Board games provided. Friendly dog, although a big dog can upset or even scare non-dog people Negatives: needs more than a lick of paint outside; not clean inside, even the beer glasses; landlord's sense of humour may be quirky, but a drunk landlord is not an...

First for the positives: good location, it is close to the Viking Way. The bad bits: we peered through the murky window before walking in to be greeted by the landlord who, at midday on Monday, was already sat at the bar drinking beer and whiskey. Smelt of dog and cigarettes. Really gloomy. Slow service. Owner told us not to...

I recently spent 2 nights at the Green Man as I was attending an event at Cadwell park. Firstly, the location is perfect. A 2 minute drive away from the circuit. You couldn't get any closer and there is a big car park enough to park several large vans and trailers. It's in a pretty little village in the heart...

I travelled up to Cadwell for a trackday and stopped here for the night as it was cheap. When I walked in it was very dark and the three people in there just stared at me, the dog gave me a better welcoming which was cool as I'm an animal lover. (he did hump me twice though apparently because I...

It seems a shame to have to repeat what has been said in previous reviews but I'm afraid it's all true. The Green Man has seen better days. The place is dark, grubby, and stinks of dog. The landlord is miserable, unwelcoming, drinks like a fish, and has the manner of a man whose living room has just been invaded...

If this pub is open, do not darken the doorstep. It smells, has a huge dog which frightened me, sticky carpets and a custodian who obviously could not care less whether you were there or not. We popped in on our motorbike one sunny day for a coffee but decided that another few miles were preferable to drinking the offering...

My friends and I often pop into this pub after we have been walking. On entering, their dog (not a Doberman), greets us, says hello and then goes to sleep, I must say I have never known him to smell. Mine hosts Tim and Anne are also welcoming, this pub is not part of a chain and is very individual,...
