My husband and I arrived on a rainy day and were looking for somewhere to spend a few hours before checking in to our B & B in Ampleforth. Great menu for such a small place. Shame it was raining so heavy, the outdoor eating area looked lovely. We both had soup, pea and mint for me (yum) and tomato...

We loved our one night stay at the Abbey Inn...and our room with a view! After a warm welcome and enjoying tea/coffee and delicious cakes downstairs in the tearoom we spent some time exploring the abbey itself (free entry for residents). Well worth a visit and much more extensive than it first looks from the roadside too. We were staying...

An idyllic spot for an overnight stay. The inn has only three rooms, all with tea making facilities and comfortable beds. Afternoon tea with homemade cakes and scones served in the garden overlooking Byland Abbey. Walk or drive a half mile to Wass for an excellent dinner at the Stapylton Arms (make a reservation- it's popular). Visit Kilburn and the...

The food here is consistently good. The menu is varied and interesting and the services is consistent. Have not yet stayed in the rooms but am told they are equally good. The location is querky and atmospheric opposite the ruined abbey

We enjoyed our first visit so much that we returned last weekend for another stay in the Byland Suite at the Tea Rooms. We were welcomed by the lovely staff, nothing is too much trouble for Karen and her team, from booking a table at the local pub, to delivering Afternoon Tea in our room. The breakfast was delicious and...

We had the place to ourselves throughout our stay, the peace and quiet an added bonus. Despite this the staff could not do enough to make our stay comfortable. Our room lacked a good view of the abbey ruins but that spared us the floodlighting. With a large, airy bathroom and excellent facilities it was all we could desire. Breakfasts...

We have booked all three suites at the Byland Abbey Inn for my wedding in July this year and have been visiting the tea rooms regularly for either morning bacon sandwiches after church or afternoon tea on our way home from York. Stayed two nights in the Kilburn Room at The Abbey Inn. The room was lovely and the en suite bathroom was really roomy. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Abbey Inn is steeped in history - from evidence of a medieval hostelry beneath its foundations to the current building made from 'borrowed' stones from the ruins of Byland Abbey. Now imaginatively restored from its origins as a 19th-century farmhouse, the inn has been fully refurbished and furnished to create a wonderfully eclectic mix of old style architecture with modern amenities and facilities. We offer our guests a choice of three individually designed bedrooms - the Byland Suite, the Mouseman bedroom and the Kilburn bedroom, all with spacious en-suite bathrooms and lovely views. Our tearoom is dedicated to providing high quality food using fresh local ingredients. Yorkshire produces some of the finest food and drink in the country and we aim to offer you some of the best. Abbey Inn is nestled quietly at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, surrounded by the ruins of Byland Abbey and beautiful open countryside. ... more   less
