Just returned from a weekend stay (we stayed in the Lapwing Room, which was beautifully furnished, with a very comfy bed & an enormous shower! Totally dog friendly, our mutt Archie was welcomed into the bar area for both dinner & breakfast, both of which were very good. The lovely housekeeper even brought Archie his own bowl of cooked sausage... More

The Hope & Anchor at Alnmouth is almost exactly halfway between our home in the far north of Scotland and our friends in Kent, so a good stopping point on the way to or from home. Alnmouth itself is blessed with a huge, sandy beach perfect for walking the dog, and a chance to pull oneself after sitting in the... More

Very pleasantly surprised with our room - all amenities, tastefully decorated in contemporary style with plenty of warm oak wood. Nice breakfast and a good Italian restaurant next to the bar for evening meals. Would have given 5 stars but there are no views to speak of, with its central location on the high street - you can't have everything... More

Stayed here for 3 nights, the rooms are very nice indeed all individually named. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. We only had breakfast which you pre order each evening but the service and food were very good. The pub is ideally situated and proved a very good vase for our stay. The beach is very near and... We ate here at October half term. The staff had apparently been very busy and moaned, loudly and constantly about it. They were not welcoming, were quite abrupt and we had a long wait with no explanation or apology. They gave the impression they were doing us a favour. The fish and chips were nothing out of the ordinary and... More

This was our first visit as a family to Northumberland and we loved it. None of us had been to Alnmouth before but we definitely want to return. The Hope & Anchor is in the main street leading to the estuary and beach, and is within a couple of minutes' walk of most of the amenities the village has to... More

We had fish & chips here and it was excellent. The fish was very fresh and the chips were just right. The pub itself stocked a couple of good local ales and the lady who served us was very welcoming. Their menu covers more than traditional fish & chips with a very nice looking dish of mackerel served on the... More

The pub is well located on the main street of village close to amenities and a short walk from the beach. The rooms are modern and spotlessly clean and the food in the restaurant is typical Italian fare with fish specials.Try the happy hour for large portions and good value.Staff are welcoming and helpful.

I stayed here after the second day of a 175 mile bicycle journey. It was wonderful to be welcomed and shown to my clean, modern ensuite room after the day's ride. They gladly stored my bicycle in a safe indoors place downstairs. The room was cozy, bed was firm yet comfortable. The bathroom was about the tiniest I'd ever been... More

This is a lovely refurbished pub and now a good Italian dinner. The food is pretty standard Italian food with a menu you may well just recognise. The non house wines are very stupidly expensive for the names they are, house wines are pricey but just about acceptable. The biggest real problem is that the staff will greet and pat... More
