Stayed for two nights whilst 'Munro Bagging' in the area. Clean, warm and cosy. Slept well. Adequate kitchen, loos and showers. Busy with a range of guests from all over the UK and Europe. Cooked one night and ate at the Barn Cafe at local camping and caravan site the other. The Barn Cafe is very good. Would definitely stay...

The Gairloch Sands Hostel, is situated on the coast of Ross-shire facing the sea in a very picturesque part of Scotland. The house was left to the SYH by the previous owners but you'll be able to read about that if you visit. I can't say too much about youth hostel-ing as this was my first time, however I was...

The hostel itself is in a lovely location. Its more or less what you would expect in terms of facilities apart from two particular gripes. If this is supposed to be a hostel for upwards of 30 people then the toilet/shower facilities have to be in accordance with that number. Reading other reviews it is obvious that this has to...

Rooms and sheets are very clean . The hostel is located just in front of the Loch. In nature. The landscape is amazing. Very frendly welcome by a helpful and smiling lady. Too bad for the muddy parking.

This was a busy hostel where we received a warm welcome from the warden and had access to a washing machine and dryer. It was a comfortable dorm room and the continental breakfast set us up nicely. If cycling, it might be worth having dinner in Gairloch first as the hostel is a couple of miles from the village.

I stayed with a friend for Celtman Triathlon. Although if was 4 miles from Gairloch it was a beautiful area, next to the beach and caravan park. The view out over the sea from the window was quite stunning. We shared with 4 other girls in bunk beds which were comfy. Bedding is provided. If was £23 each and an...

Another Scottish youth hostel gem. Perfect location with stunning views. Staff are friendly and very welcoming. Standard hostel facilities are all clean and tidy. A great base to explore the surrounding coastline or the islands. For the views alone this is worth the price!

We stayed here with our walking club I having previously visited the hostel at the lighthouse at Rua Reidh some years ago. One of those hidden gems in SYHAs stock of hostels. Victorian era stone built house in a magnificent location overlooking Gairloch and the Torridon mountains. Beach nearby. Parking on-site. Lovely staff. Brilliant building. Nice facilities, good size kitchen. Parking is tight and big vehicles will struggle (anything longer than average estate or that has low ride height, rocky sloped and uneven parking except for four bays), would be five stars otherwise.

Amenities

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel is a cosy former hunting lodge situated on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch with magnificent sea and mountain views. Built in the 1880's this is one of the oldest youth hostels within the SYHA network. Gairloch Sands Youth Hostel is a popular choice with groups, families and individual travellers looking for budget accommodation. The youth hostel offers a good range of facilities including an excellent dining room, a well-equipped self-catering kitchen and both multi-share and private bedrooms. The most commented feature by our guests is the lounge which boasts stunning panoramic views of the Torridon hills and Loch Gairloch. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding ... more   less
