Detailed Reviews
The rooms were very comfortable and the location is excellent. It's very easy to access the entire city and trailheads from the Hostel as it's only about 1/2km from the main entrance to the trails, and right on the main road. And, the best part of staying at the Patagonia Travellers' Hostel is the staff - they are helpful, friendly, and made our trip.

Hostal par excellence
I stayed at the Patagonia Hostal for 3 nights.
Mariel gave me super recommendations for an enjoyable 3 stay in El Chanten.
Since my Mobile phone wasn't working, Samanta the receptionist arranged all my onwards trip, including bus ticket, accommodation in El Chanten as well as the day trip to la cueva de los Manos. She was an excellent tour adviser, information officer and above all an aprochable human being. Patagonia is highly recommended. Good values, very clean rooms and helpful staff.

Exceptionally friendly and multilingual staff. Quick walk to all the restaurants, shops, pharmacy and bars. Located about 2 miles from Parque Nacional Los Glaciares trail head.
Decent breakfast except the coffee wasnāt so great!
Only concern is the shower did not appear to be as clean as the rest of the room. Not sure if it is due to lack of air flow / ventilation or that it hasnāt been cleaned properly. I would recommend this as a place to stay just check to ensure the cleanliness meets your standards.

Response from Patagonia Hostel Gerente, Encargado del hostal at Patagonia Travellers' Hostel
Responded Mar 21, 2023
Hi Betsey, Thank you for writing to us. We have a controversy with the taste of coffee: Europeans prefer strong coffee, Americans, softer. We are preparing something in the middle, but we keep testing... The bathrooms are cleaned 3 times a day, but it depends who uses them before, sometimes it seems that they have never been cleaned... This week we change the filters of the air extractors, so that the ventilation circulates better. Thanks for your visit in Patagonia!

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff who helped us in every way including lending us a couple of walking poles for our Xmas Dy trek up Mount
Fitzroy. The place was fine, as expected, but the highlight was the staff. Dead handy for setting out on your trek and not far away from a decent Italian.

The main building is nice: spacious, fairly warm (in winter) and with a well-equipped kitchen. The front desk folks are welcoming and helpful. WiFi works and--for El Chalten standards--is fairly fast. I would happily give this place 4 dots or even five, but then I got to spend the second night in an 800ARS cabana -- and that was a mistake. The cabanas are located several blocks away, off the main road, and are dated. Mine never got warm enough for a decent sleep. The water pressure changed constantly between too much and almost none. The beds are tiny (80cms wide and too short), and half of the walls were tiled. Two dots for those, at most.

Dear Daniel, sorry that have had to change their accommodation to be filled ours. At that time there were many problems with the water supply and pressure was very variable. We always recommend our guests tell in advance how many days they want to stay housed, to avoid running out availability. We wait for you on your next trip to Patagonia.

The double with private bath was about 200 more expensive than the going rate.
The staff really made us feel like we we're imposing on them whenever we asked a question. Finally at checkout the staff member quoted us a different (higher) price. We tried to find a middle ground but the staff was inflexible and very rude.
Plenty of other places to stay

Dear Emersn, Are still in doubt if you really stay in Patagonia Hostel or elsewhere. We have one of the most affordable rates for the quality of services we provide and try to avoid any disagreement with our guests. Thus it is shown in the comments of most of our guests. We hope to have you back with us to reverse this bad image.

We made our reservation, based on positive reviews here, weeks in advance and received an email saying we could either pay in cash there or via PayPal in advance, which we did.
On arrival we were told that there was no room for us as they had overbooked, but assured us this is not something that they did intentionally (as we know a number of places do, expecting cancellations/no shows).
They said that we could stay in their Cabanas Cumbres Nevadas a few blocks away for the same price. However, the cabana (cabin A) was dirty and smelt strongly of gas. The bedding was stained and there were bits of dried food over the floors. It quite clearly had not been cleaned, but the main concern was the smell of gas.
We went back to tell them that we would not stay there and were told that a refund via PayPal would take "a week or so" as it was someone in Madrid who handles their payments...
We got a cash refund there and then, but no apology.
We have travelled a lot and always avoid anywhere that has overbooked - nothing worse than being turned away and having to waste a day frantically searching for somewhere else to stay.

Stayed here for almost two weeks and recommend it.
Things I liked:
- Great staff, all of whom are friendly, helpful and speak English very well
- Rooms and common areas are cleaned every day
- Bunks are solid and rooms have large lockers
- With a few exceptions, guests are quiet and don't stay up late
- Separate room to hand wash and dry your clothes
- Hot showers
- Spacious common areas
There are a few things that I'd like to see improved, but they're quite minor:
- Kitchen could use some proper knives for cooking and more large pots (since everyone seems to cook pasta)
- Oddly, bed linens are not 'fitted' (i.e. no elastic for the corners of the mattress) so they tend to slip around while you sleep
- Music is played in the common areas from around 08:00-21:00 (albeit, not loudly), which can get tiresome
Overall I was quite pleased with my time here and would happily return.

Recently stayed for the second time for three weeks whilst attempting the "hielo continental". Once again great lodging at a good price and absolutely perfect service ! A big thank you to all but especially Francisco and Romina, you both made a memorable trip even better. Look after Chalten for us, don't let it change, we'll be back soon. Gracias, Le mirar pronto Patagonia.

Lovely hostel but unlike every other hostel in patagonia, it does not offer breakfast or even coffee in the morning, there is a teeny tiny kitchen and it is so loud!! Dont get me wrong, it was nice but definitely not amazing!
