We did not stay in this hotel, but I had my fondest lunch in Patagonia here. We stop-by on our way to Laguna Torre after two nights of backpacking at the lovely Laguna de los Tres and the so-so Lago Electrico.

In a nutshell, El Pilar is a gem. The facilities, location, staff, service, food, hiking, and views are outstanding. We spent one week at El Pilar, and are so happy that we stayed that long because it gave us time to hike and explore, and...More
Beautiful location/views, extremely warm and gracious hosts Guillermo and Christina (who knew all guests by name), spotless simple rooms, hearty gourmet meals -- we did not want to leave after 3 nights. Guillermo was very helpful in explaining the trails to us (including letting us...More
This was one of the sweetest spots I stayed in all of Patagonia. Guillermo and Christina are the most gracious hosts ever (if I ever opened my own B & B I would try to recruit them!). The chef produced amazing dinners (the just-out of...More

Hello. As mentioned above, you may be able to ride with wonderful Guillermo to town if your plans fit with his trips to town. If not, you may be able to ask for a taxi to come from El Chalten to pick you up or use Las Lengas for your transportation between El Chalten and Hosteria El Pilar. For some reason ,they won't allow me to give you the link to the Las Lengas website According to their website, they offer this trip 3 times daily between El Chalten and Hosteria El Pilar. You can go on the El Chalten forum to get the website link and e-mail address.
This is a long, bumpy road. When we rode with Guillermo on this road from El Chalten last December, I think it took us about 45 minutes when we drove slowly enough to make it a pleasant drive.
