In March, 2015 I (and three friends) had the most interesting, fun and adventurous stay at this camp. It is a classic Wilderness Safari camp - with very comfortable accommodations, wonderful food, amazing scenery and wildlife and incredibly great people. I had never been to a true water camp before, so this was a new experience. Many of the "drives"...

Thank you Lee H for your amazing review, we are delighted to see you had such an enjoyable and adventurous stay with us and our chorus of never ending frogs. On many an evening, we have also enjoyed the company of the roaring Tubu lion brothers who are visiting Jao Island and funnily enough, one morning while we were enjoying...

Lovely lodge where we shared a family unit. Food was very good and we loved the sundowner stops. Particularly memorable were the fantastic choir, the singing, dancing and basket work demonstration. We were lucky enough to see the Rare Sitatonga as well as The Pells Fishing Owl so grateful thanks to our guide TH and Kaizer who poled our Mokoro....

As the first of three stops on our Botswana honeymoon, Jacana was relaxing and peaceful -- the perfect start. As we pulled up to the camp, the entire staff was on the front porch singing to welcome us. Our room was very comfortable, and the staff surprised us with champagne and flowers for our honeymoon, and a cake for my...

Dear Joe P, Thank you for the fantastic review and for sharing both these special occasions with us. We are delighted to hear you had such a great time and look forward to your return. Guests at Jacana have been regularly greeted by an elephant grazing in front of camp while they enjoy breakfast. At brunch we tend to see...

The first lodge we stayed at in the Delta was a wonderful surprise. We saw so many beautiful birds, the most magnificent sunsets on mokoros and had expert guides who were so knowledgeable. The staff were friendly, the setting amazing. My experience at Jacana will not be forgotten. Thank you.

Dear Alison K, We are delighted to hear that Jacana left such a great impact on you and left you with such wonderful memories. Being a water-based camp, Jacana’s birding speaks for itself. Huge flocks of white-faced whistling ducks and spur-winged geese have been swimming in front of the camp for quite some time. Openbill storks have also started to...

Jacana was the first stop on our 8 day Botswana safari. We have been to Botswana before (7 years ago) but are still amazed by the beauty of this part of the Delta. Jacana was the least luxurious of the camps we stayed at during this trip (Mombo and Zarafa were to follow), but we loved the relaxed atmosphere, the lovely...

Jacana Tented Camp was our fourth camp on a two week custom safari. It came on the heels of our most primitive accommodations and was a wonderful and welcome change. It's a water camp in the middle of the Okavango Delta, so don't expect a lot of Big 5 viewing here, although elephants and hippos can be seen from the...

The trip to the camp was a delightful start to our three night trip. A 15 minute drive to the jetty turned into an hour as we enjoyed watching a breeding herd of elephants with a couple of teeny tiny babies, then a large river monitor and finally two malachite kingfishers fishing. Arrival at camp is round a bend in...

Dear musicmanbrain, Thank you for the fabulous review of our camp. It looks like the Delta has reached its equilibrium of water and land and all is at peace above the surface. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A crystal-clear water wonderland harbouring the Okavango Delta's most elusive species. Jacana Camp lies on a beautiful island that is surrounded by water for most of the year, making it a true camp of the central Delta. The dining area lies on an elevated wooden deck between two enormous sycamore fig trees, surrounded by dense wild date palms. Downstairs, there is a cosy lounge under thatch with a large deck, an open fire under the stars, and a plunge pool. Meals are often enjoyed outdoors under the stars. HighlightsWhether from boat or mokoro, or simply looking out from your deck, wildlife at home in (or drawn to) the blue waters is evident: herds of red lechwe, hippo, crocodile and spotted-necked otter are the obvious inhabitants, followed by elephant wallowing in the shallows and, if you're lucky, elusive sitatunga or predators like lion and leopard. True Okavango bird specials include Pel's fishing-owl and the endangered wattled crane. The camp is composed of 5 Tents (including 1 Family Tent): Comfortable tents; en-suite bathrooms; outdoor showers. Experiences include: Year-round mokoro and boating, Day game drives, Seasonal catch-and-release fishing. ... more   less
