Bishops House was exactly what my wife and I were looking for. An incredibly welcoming and peaceful oasis with just the right level of luxury (without being over the top).

We had an amazing room (#1004) - insanely large (bigger than our NY apartment) with everything you could ask for - large bathroom, great (large) bed, sitting area, lots of closet space - not even counting an additional living room which was available for our private use as well (kitchen and dining area, living room, etc).

Every single member of the staff was incredibly friendly, genuinely wanting to connect and help in any way - and to anticipate your needs. If one of us wasn’t at a meal they were immediately asking after health, whether they can bring anything for them, etc.

We dined outside (poolside) for lunch each day - which is in a large courtyard surrounded by trees, and beautiful birds visiting too.

If you are visiting you are likely going to Volcanoes National Park during your stay. The hotel is very attuned to that schedule and helps in many ways that you might not expect (eg greeting you on return with a foot massage, taking your shoes and gaiters away for cleaning (and they come back every day looking like new!), giving you a snack bag each day for while you are out hiking (and customizing it for you on request), etc.

We stayed for 5 nights and had an amazing time. The staff were a real standout too. We would definitely return.

an exceptional place to stay. Wonderful rooms, fantastic and interesting lobby. Great and attentive staff. Very good food in a lovely setting by the pool. They put on gaiters for you (stinging nettles) and clean your shoes/socks when you return from the gorilla trek.
Free laundry

Until staying here, I thought nothing could top luxurious experiences in hotel stays. Wrong! This venue was perfect in every way. From arrival and registration in the regal and restorative entrance and side salon, to the most endearing and hospitable manager, Stephen, and the best suite I’ve ever stayed in. This stop is a must, especially if you are en route to gorilla trekking in the volcanoes National Park. We were led to a suite of rooms with a brand new mid-sized euro kitchen (fully outfitted with drinks and utensils) and living room area on the right with sofa and two roomy soft easy chairs. On the left, the sleeping suite: king-sized bed, love seat two easy chairs, bedside tables, desk and armoire. Doors opened to a large terrace with tables and chairs, sheltered by huge leaves of a palm or banana tree. The bath included a tub, double sink and immense two (three?) person shower. All beautifully designed with palettes of cream, taupe, brown and splashes of color. There was also a powder on off the other living room area, that I confiscated as my own bathroom.

Best night of sleep ever. The next day, the hotel outfitted us with backpacks and gaiters for our trek to the mountain gorillas, also providing a breakfast bag. On return after a marvelous day, staff greeted us outside and asked us to sit, where they removed our (really muddy) boots and socks and then proceeded to give us individual foot massages! Succulent. They took the boots and gaiters and had them perfectly cleaned and lined up in the lobby for our next day of trekking.

Had three spa treatments: two massages and a pedicure. The massages were fantastic; the pedicure did not wear well. Wish we’d had more time to lounge by the pool, but we were tightly scheduled to see the animals. The pool is gorgeous. Big. Great comfy furniture. Beautiful umbrellas.

The food was exquisite. Nothing too far afield for the mostly Brit, Aussie and American guests. Grilled meats and fish, potatoes, fresh fresh green salads. desserts alternated between very chocolaty decadence to fruit tarts. Wine selection is mostly South African; I don’t drink alcohol but my wife seemed very pleased with the suggestions offered by the staff.

Lovely gift shop with authentic handwork by the Maasai, including beautiful walking sticks that can be taken down to three parts for easy transport. Even if you don’t go gorilla trekking, you should do yourself a favor and experience this Five star + paradise.

Bishop's House Rwanda was an absolutely luxury, amazing place to stay in Rwanda. The staff introduced themselves to my friends and me upon arrival, asked questions, and remembered our preferences and then treated us like VIPs every single day. We were always greeted with hot towels to wipe our faces, fresh smoothies or tea, and a smile. There is nothing not to like... the service, the pool, the breakfast/lunch/dinner menus, the house wine, the massages, the rooms, the balconies, the multiple living rooms, the views... each feature was better than the last! I absolutely recommend staying here.

A hidden gem offering very comfortable accomodation and great food. The service is exceptional with staff greeting you on arrival every time you return to the hotel. We enjoyed a large and very comfortable bedroom and bathroom - our friends had a smaller room and bed. Food was good. A sit down breakfast is served early allowing you to eat before heading to visit the gorillas.

Absolutely wonderful experience under the management of Steve. I would like to commend the staff for their top notch customer service orientation (Richard, Karine, Gaspard, Heritier, Agape, Marian, Josian and a few others I may have missed). Vegetarian food options were fabulous and the all inclusive price made the stay so much more enjoyable. Only negative was that we were booked for three nights and this was shortened to two for no apparent reason. Noticed through reviews that this happened to another couple in June 2023. So my advice would be to check and get confirmation from the hotel so that you are not disappointed.

Bishop’s House is a delightful place to stay. The staff are kind, attentive and immensely hospitable. The food is delicious and varied.

We stayed in two rooms for three nights in August 2023.

The property is on a large, secure and gated plot in a very quiet part of town with elegant and well maintained gardens. It’s only a short trip by car to the park for Gorillas/ Monkeys and the hotel ensures you have a full breakfast (should you want it) before the early start. They also provide snacks for the trek and gaiters should you need them.

The bedrooms are large,beautifully furnished
and in great condition. The reception rooms and restaurant are spacious and comfortable.

The staff are helpful, friendly, efficient and welcoming. The food and drinks are great. The laundry service is excellent.

Thanks to Steve and everyone at Bishops House for making our Rwanda trip so special.

Bishop’s House isn’t cheap

We made reservations for two couples for three nights about 10 months ahead of time. On the day before we were supposed to check in, the Bishop's House informed our travel agent that they could not honor our reservation for the first night. Fortunately, our travel agent was able to get us into another place (which ended up being nicer). While the Bishop's House offered to let us stay there the second two nights, we decided to stay put in the alternative hotel. I'm guessing it's a nice place to stay, as long as they don't overbook and leave you hung out to dry the day before you arrive.

This hotel serves Volcanoes National Park, where the important activity is trekking to visit mountain gorillas ("Gorillas in the mist"). Hikes can range from mildly difficult to very strenuous. It was wonderful to have a great base at this boutique hotel, where the service and amenities were perfect. Dining was outstanding, and the rooms are comfortable withe a great bath to wash off the bush. The staff removes your boots and gaiters on returning and cleans them for you, which does keep the mud out of their carpets. The garden is peaceful and the pool is wonderful.

I, quite literally, want to move into The Bishops House and stay here forever. We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful property while in Musanze for gorilla trekking. The property is beautifully appointed and, with only 10 rooms, very quiet. Most days, we felt as though we were the only guests there!

We spent two wonderful afternoons by the pool, attended closely to by the staff. All of our meals were attended to by Richard and Samuel, who were phenomenal hosts, and the chef and property manager, Steve, both made time to stop by and introduce themselves. Every single meal was delicious and perfectly portioned.

When we one day return to Rwanda, we will absolutely be returning to The Bishop's House.
