I found this camp to be very charming and welcoming. We were alone at camp with just another couple and found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Every effort was done to make our stay pleasant and comfortable, and accommodate our request to see Aardvark and do long night drives. My friend was in a wheelchair and all...

The perfect introduction to our African holiday. We landed a little tired and anxious about our upcoming Kilimanjaro trek. From the moment we entered the grounds at Ndarakwai we felt at home. Located in the African Bush, we were greeted not only by very friendly staff, but also Impala, warthogs and some very cheeky monkeys. Waking up every morning to...

A wonderfully relaxing place to stay at the end of seven days of safari. The tented accommodation is exceptional especially waking up to the view from your bed of animals quietly grazing just outside. A secluded rondavil was an excellent venue for the massage to relieve the aches of several days on safari, and the staff were always extremely helpful....

Fantastic! What a perfect way to start our trek up Kilimanjaro. Tented huts with room for 2. We were family of four so we had 2 tents. Took a nice guided wildlife walk in the afternoon, saw elephant, giraffes, zebra, warthogs, monkeys, gazelle - too cool! We had lunch and dinner in the main area. Beds were comfortable, solar power...

This lodge is very eco-friendly. The rooms are very nicely designed and you only hear animals in case they are around. The restaurant is great. This place is suited for combining game drives and walks with Relaxing in the lodge.

This was exactly the peaceful retreat I needed before climbing Kilimanjaro. The staff is incredibly helpful, the food was great, and we were treated very well. There are only a few guests at the ranch at once, so the service is exceptional. (One caution: watch out for the monkeys!)

We visited just for a days safari. We were able to use the lodges to shower after as we were off to the airport afterwards. We had a great lunch- a big party of us- 25. The food was delicious and so fresh. The safari was excellent- the driver spoke great English, and was extremely patient with us when we...

I've been coming here since 2014 and it is still a wonderful place to be. Nice to see everyone again as well! The food continues to get better every year and the wine selection is good in comparison to other places. Went on a 30 minute walk and saw a whole family of Eland. There is also a baby bushbuck...

We visited after doing a family partial hike of Kili. The area was remote, but absolutely incredible. We had 2 tents; king size suite Faru with fantastic views of Kili, and our boys were adjacent in Pofu, with 2 twin beds. Both tents provided a desk and sofa, a deck with seating, and en suite baths. Meals were served in...

My brother and I stayed here for one night before departing for a Kilimanjaro climb. It is a classic safari lodge with a semi-permanent tent beneath a thatched roof that is very comfortable and well appointed in rustic safari style. Beds were comfortable. The bar and restaurant area was spacious and pleasant and dinner and the following morning's breakfast was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Started in 1994, Ndarakwai is a unique success story of land and wildlife rehabilitation, the first of its kind in Tanzania. With about 70 mammal species and over 350 bird species in a combination of high long grass plains, classic Acacia savannah, Commiphora thickets, and riparian habitats, a stay at Ndarakwai is a great addition to any safari itinerary. Ndarakwai Camp, with 14 large comfortable and individually decorated tents, is set at 4200 feet in the midst of an 11,000 acre privately-owned ranch in Siha District, West Kilimanjaro. Ndarakwai offers a high degree of personalized service, attention to detail, great food, as well as a wide variety of excellent wildlife related activities, cultural experiences, and excursions. What really sets us apart from National parks is our ability to offer half and full day walks with an experienced guide, as well as night game drives. These are two things you are not able to do in the parks. If it is birding on foot, or searching for nocturnal animals by spotlight, Ndarakwai is for you! Ndarakwai strives to be the best in luxury tented camping while maintaining the principles of responsible environmental stewardship. Extensive use of solar power (for electricity and hot water), the use of clay ovens for cooking, preference for local produce, combined with 11,000 protected acres of bush and woodland give confidence the camp is being established as carbon neutral. ... more   less
