Chanya Lodge has earned commendations for its cleanliness, with many guests highlighting the spotless rooms and well-kept facilities. The amenities, including a picturesque restaurant, inviting pool, and lush garden, coupled with tailored services like bespoke omelets and massages, receive frequent praise. While offering good value for money, particularly with treatments like the 'Kilimanjaro legs massage,' the lodge is not without its flaws, as some visitors mention slight inconsistencies in dining service and room drawbacks such as thin walls. Nonetheless, the staff's attentive and professional service alongside the lodge's tranquil atmosphere have left a positive impression on guests.

We stayed three nights at Chanya Lodge before and after our Mt. Kilimanjaro adventure through Shah Tours. The staff was very friendly and everything was seamless from when they picked us up at the airport till when we left.

The overall location is very tranquil and beautiful. The landscape and garden are immaculately maintained and are perfect for relaxing before or after a grueling hike.

The food was excellent and the wait staff were willing to meet every request. One day, we wanted to go into the city to do a little shopping and the staff at Chanya Lodge arranged everything with a trusted provider.

The rooms were comfortable and secure. The bathrooms in each room were more open (it would have been nice to have a door or curtain for more privacy) but the water was hot and everything felt very secure.

We never had any trouble with the WiFi and, though we didn’t get to try the pool, it looked amazing.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying at Chanya Lodge to anyone visiting Moshi.

I have stayed in a number of hotels in Moshi but Chanya Lodge is by far the best. The staff are outstanding - extremely helpful, professional and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble.
The food is exceptional, especially the pizza which is made in a real stone oven! The breakfast and dinner buffet options are also extensive with something suitable for everyone. The chefs are very flexible to accommodate all dietary requirements and requests, even for a large group.
The waitresses (Beatrice, Eva and the others whose names I have forgotten thanks to my pizza coma!) and dining manager Vincent go above and beyond with their service, which is attentive but not pushy.
There is no concept of 'African time' here - service is fast and efficient.
The rooms I have stayed in at Chanya Lodge are beautiful with mosquito netting, high quality toiletries, free purified drinking water, comfortable bedding and lovely hot showers. Everything you need after a climb of Kilimanjaro! There is also air conditioning, a ceiling fan and TV available.

WiFi is fast and reliable for those all-important calls home to celebrate climbing the mountain, catching up with friends or conducting business.
The entire hotel is extremely clean, with beautifully maintained gardens, a nice pool and has a strong focus on positive ecological and community practices.
I genuinely cannot fault anything about Chanya Lodge and sincerely look forward to returning in future. Asante sana.

I visited Tanzania for the first time in December 2022 with my wife, and boy were we apprehensive on what will be thrown to us - with regards to accomodation, food, culture, etc

However, upon arrival at Chanya Lodge after a long arse flight, we were so amazed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff on deck. The counter staff greeted us with the warmest and most genuine of smile, offering us with a much needed fruit juice, before settling in to our accomodation. They strike conversations that were simple to comprehend, yet it hits you in the fuzziest of manner, which left a good sense of tinggling sensation within

The rooms and its decor was awesome. Simple, rustic, yet something pleasing to the eyes. Nothing to overbearing bt just sufficient to keep it looking majestic. We stayed in a room where there is a double and single bed, and it was so comfortable. Portable water was constantly provided and the staff were more than happy to refill it for you on a daily basis. Toilets and showering facilities were top notch, with adequate hot water ammenities, awesome frangrance shower gel and shampoo (coconut and lime 😍) Spacious enough to fit the whole family in it 😆 They even encourage a guests to use refillable and non plastic bottles, just to conserve the environment and its a strictly no plastic concept in the country!

Moving on to the restaurant, we were bless to be served by the most dedicated staff in the form of Beatrice and her crew. Constantly asking about our rest, sleep, greeted us with a tremendous wide grin and never once giving us the attitude, despite some days being challenging due to the crowd or weather. She (in fact all of them) will be punctual, articulate in considerably good english and will always always ensure that your requests have been followed up with. Food wise, as we are both non foodie (we eat to survive, not survive to eat) we dont have that gastro quality taste buds. But it managed to give us sustained energy for our days’ activities, taste really really good and its something that kept us looking forward to, every meal. Lots of variety for those who have yet to taste quality african food. Did I mentioned that they have great shakes and juices to accompany your meals? 😍

All in all, I must say staying at Chanya Lodge was really an experience of a lifetime and it hits your senses automatically. Words cant describe and doesnt justify how awesome and how much we enjoyed our stay there. Asante sana, Chanya Lodge!

Dear Khalique A We highly appreciate that you have taken the time to write this fantastic, detailed review and shared some awesome pictures with us. We are grateful to know that you and your family enjoyed our hospitality and friendliness. Many thanks for highlighting the rooms & decor, refillable non-plastic bottles, toilets & showering facilities, hot water showers and coconut & lime gel & shampoo which have been carefully chosen as they are non-damaging to the body and environment as well. We are happy to hear that the food experience at Zingira Restaurant - Chanya Lodge was incredible even for non-foodies! All in all, we are so grateful that you felt it was an experience of a lifetime staying with us and to the extent you and your family enjoyed the stay. Once again on behalf of all at Chanya Lodge, we would like to thank you and your family for recommending us. We are looking forward seeing you and your family for the next visit, karibu tena (welcome back again) Very warm wishes from Beatrice and the whole team here at Chanya Lodge

We enjoyed our stay at Chanya lodge as part of our Mt. Kilimanjaro climb package arranged by Shah Tours. The grounds are immaculately kept and filled with beautiful plants. The open-air dining pavilion is also lovely, and the rooms are well appointed. The entire place is set up to make you as relaxed as possible. This includes the staff, who worked tirelessly to ensure our visit was perfect (special thank you's to Jackson and Steven at reception and Iscek and Doreen at the restaurant or their expert service).

Included in the room price was an amazing breakfast - you won't walk away hungry! Fresh fruit juices were a particular highlight. Food prices in the restaurant is on the higher side but not outrageous, and very good. I would suggest bringing cash to pay for food/drinks as the credit card machine may go out during rainy weather. Hotel staff also assisted in setting up a taxi back to the airport, which was fantastic.

We are glad that our lodge and staff were able to help you and your group to be as relaxed as possible. Pole sana (very sorry) sometimes the card machine provided by the bank is out of network connection, which is usually due to the weather. We hope to have you all stay with us again in future. The names you have mentioned, have said a special thanks to you, and together we all at Chanya Lodge send you our greetings.

I loved this hotel very much. It’s a pity that we stayed there only for one night during our safari tour. The territory is big and green. There is a beautiful garden and a pool.
The room isn’t big, but very comfortable. There were 2 beds. The bathroom is quite spacious and modern. There were beds with anti mosquito nets, but there were no mosquitos nor on the territory nor on the room.
The staff is very friendly and polite. Ready to serve you.
The dinner was really delicious. The menu isn’t various, but you can find something for you. The staff asked us to choose main dishes from menu beforehand.
Everything was tasty, but pay attention that main dishes portions are really big! Beverages are paid separately. The breakfast was also very good. There was buffet and you can choose some dishes from the menu (different types of eggs, avocado toasts, pancakes, etc).
It’s really great that there is a pool!
Jackson, the manager at the reception was very friendly, polite and ready to help you with everything. The staff is honestly happy to have you in their hotel.

Hello Remmy, sorry I didn’t give you the feedback earlier. I have been very busy since.
I would say I liked the hospitality of all the workers.
The receptionist “Steve” I believe was superb, friendly and warm hearted.
The “bar man” I don’t remember him telling me his name also very tolerant as I was trying to push his boundaries.
The rooms were well organized and clean too though I would suggest that you guys add a tooth brush and a paste.
The gardens were also on point.
Overall you guys have a good place, and when I get clients who want to climb the Mount Kilimanjaro i know I have a place for them to stay.

We landed in Kilimanjaro and stayed in Moshi for 2 nights before proceeding to Ngorongoro. We chose the Chanya Lodge as a backup, as our original choice was not available.
Overall, it’s an ok place, for a 1-2 night stopover. Mostly it is used by people resting after climbing Kilimanjaro, or as a pitstop before starting their ascent.
The rooms are large enough and bathrooms are decent. Furnishings are also good quality, privacy is an issue as all windows open out onto public pathways.
Food is also ok, and they have a decent collection of beers at the bar, which is also the only place where you get good wifi. The garden behind the restaurant provides a partial view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, early morning, post which it gets obscured by fog. One of the issues with the restaurant is that they cannot consolidate the bill with the room charge, and you have to pay directly everytime for all your meals.
There is a small pool, which is very deep throughout, small children should not use it . They also allow day trippers to use the pool, so it can get very crowded for a small pool.
The surrounding areas have some nice drives to look at Chagga tribal settlements, otherwise there is not too much to do in that area.

Very welcoming, friendly service- nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are clean and shower rooms are great.

Food is of a good quality and price, you can order of both the set menu and al carte menu, soup, starter, main, dessert all included in half board.

There was live music the first Friday with a buffet and was a great atmosphere. Upon returning from Kili I I used the laundry service, this was quick easy and meant I travelled home in some nice clear clothes!

Beds are comfortable, rooms air conditioned. The bar has a wide array of decent beers and spirits. Travelling on my own- the bar staff were really friendly and they took the time to chat and provide a personal service. The pool area is a bonus and I was very glad I bought my trunks!

Only negative I would say is the wifi is patchy outside of the bar and restaurant, however does the job.

If I was ever to come back to Tanzania I would have no hesitation in booking again with Chanya Lodge.

Asanta Sana!

We stayed at the lodge to rest after our long flight and before starting to trek the Kilimanjaro. We came back after the climb to rest before heading to a safari in the Serengeti.
The premises are excellent, food is great and varied, location is good, and staff is the highlight of the place. Reception staff is professional, supportive and welcoming and proactively helpful. The restaurant staff is extremely friendly, nice and warm, and make every effort to make you feel home.
The best feature of this lodge is the well trained and professional staff.
They offer free wifi, laundry services, and massage, which was all we needed after climbing the Kilimanjaro.
They offer filtered water for drinking and brushing your teeth in the room.
My suggestions are:
1. Check and change the room mattresses, as we had a very soft one at the bed of room 504. I slept feeling like I had fallen in whole and woke up with pain in my back. I didn’t have this problem in the first room we stayed before the climb.
2. There is a predominance of Indian cuisine in the restaurant, which is not per se a very light menu. I understood that the lodge owner is Indian, but not all guests come from the same country. We do love Índia food but before and after the climb, it’d have been better to eat more plain food, not so spicy. And we would have appreciated to have seen more Tanzanian dishes in the menu, after all we were in Africa, not in India.
These points have not spoiled our stay and we still recommend the lodge as a very good place to stay.

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing Chanya Lodge and taking time to write this wonderful review. We're delighted that you found our premises excellent and the location convenient. Our team takes pride in providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and we're thrilled to hear that we made you feel at home. We appreciate your valuable suggestions and apologize that you did not find the mattress suitable which was immediately investigated by our team after your feedback. Regarding the food we are happy that you found it great and varied, we have 3 types of cuisine including predominantly Continental, Tanzanian as well as Indian. Although you found the food great and varied we are slightly concerned about your comment as it is not usual for any guest to be given an Indian meal unless it was selected by choice off the menu. Please do share with us further information via email to understand better. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an even better stay in the future. Best Wishes from Chanya Lodge Team

We have had a short (2 Days) but excellent stay here at Chanya Lodge before our trip up Kilimanjaro.
The staff are very welcoming, serviceminded and constantly in a good mood and ready to help with whatever one may need.
The facilites are great with an enjoyable pool and sunbeds, good meals and refreshing drinks.
The rooms albeit not the largest are in good condition and with a comfortable vibe.
All in all good value for money and what is to be expected.
Would definetly recommend the place to others.
