We went to this lodge after two luxury lodges and this a budget lodge so my comments might be slightly skewed. I would have normally given two stars to a facility like this. The lodge is old and it shows. The food is average, but like most places in Tanzania, I found the meat way over cooked. The wifi works...

This place is one of a kind. Mary welcomes you when you arrive full of dust and tired. Very friendly woman for a very friendly place. High up on the side of the crater this is the perfect place to spend the night before or after going down to the crater. The dinner and breakfast building is very pretty and...

The views, the food and the staff were excellent. The only issue was the fact that you share your hot water with the neighbors so if you are unlucky like us...you may arrive at your room after 5 hours drivibg and there is no hot water to shower. ... the other issue was there are no nets on the windows...

The third of our mid-range lodge nights on a recent safari and again we weren't disappointed. The deck was a plus, and we enjoyed a drink and a chat with a range of like minded travellers. It continued in the friendly, cosy dining area, where the buffet dinner (and the following morning;s breakfast) offered a range to satisfy anyone. helpful...

A nice place to stay with friendly staff and good food. The bedroom was good, bathroom okay. No mosqito net above the bed so we had to put up our own. Nice view from the room. We felt completely safe in the room even if the wild animals could be passing right outside our window.

Thanks Sofia for your review of Rhino Lodge. The views are indeed spectacular and hopefully next time you may well see our buffalo and elephants and feel quite safe in your room. At this altitude mosquito nets are not necessary as it is too cold for them. We are fortunate in having v few insects. The team at Rhino hope...

This one of our last stops along our safari and was a good overall hotel. We loved the fireplaces in the room for at night because of the colder temperatures and the staff did a good job of getting it ready for you before bed. It was also amazing how in the courtyard there were zebras that came in at...

After lovely experiences at Eileens Trees Inn and Katikati Camp 1, we expected an equally pleasant visit at the Rhino Lodge. It has a big reputation. We could not have been more disappointed. Reception - Rude man who could not be bothered to speak in a way we could actually understand. Threw form across counter, did not say welcome, nor...

Stayed 1 night as part of a Safari tour. The hotel is not bad at all. Not a lot of amenities or services. Very simple. Room mighy be cold. (Depending on the season), so you just need to ask them to heat it through the fire place in the room. The food is pretty good and delicious. Good variety of...

Good food, a comfortable bed, and a friendly staff made for a pleasant stay. Rooms have a fireplace which is good during cool nights and a sitting porch overlooking grazing wildlife. Wi-Fi in the restaurant area.

Stayed at the rhino lodge on the way back of serengeti and planning to go to the crater in the early morning, located about 15-20 min from the lodge. The rooms are simple but comfortable with plenty of warm blankets and even a small wood furnace should you need it on colder nights. Remember you are pretty high up so...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. The Lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting. Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve and visits to nearby Maasai villages, can all be arranged from the lodge. And, on return after a long day, 24 comfortable en suite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home. ... more   less
