We stayed here recently for one night -- great location for game drives to Ngorongoro Crater. Buffalo in our backyard, a working shower, excellent service, great buffet dinners and breakfast, and a delicious box lunch -- a quaint and memorable lodge as part of our safari!

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the crater. When we first arrived we were taken to our room and was shown how to use everything inside, the rooms are average however there is a log burner which the staff will light for you, if you wish to use it. We did and it was lovely and warm. It...

This lodge in right on the rim of the ngorongoro crater but with a view of the surrounding forests at a height of (I think) about 2000m. It can get cold a night and (if asked) the lodge will light a fire in your room...very cosy. Good service, good food and a convenient location near a particularly good part of...

We stayed at the Rhino lodge after visiting the Serengeti and heading to the crater the next day. The view from the common room/dining room at sunset is simply stunning!!! The rooms themselves are nothing special, we actually liked our tent camp the night before better. However, we did get a warm shower and after having the wood stove light...

I stayed at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge with my parents and 4 children. We absolutely loved it! The atmosphere and accommodations were wonderful. We loved the dining area. The staff was amazing. They were kind and super helpful especially with a tired and cranky 2 year old. We enjoyed the cold weather and the wood stoves in the rooms. The rooms...

We pre-positioned for a a crater game drive, arriving after a second day in the Serengeti, and were pleased with the welcoming staff, spacious rooms, and comfortable common area (with fireplace - it get's chilly on the rim of the caldera). The water in the shower was as hot as you'd like it to be (not always guaranteed in the...

LOVED the dining room - it is warm, cozy and delightful. Ngorongoro can be chilly and the lovely fire and warm red and natural wood decor gave it the feel of a sparkly ski lodge. The rooms are decorated with beautiful Maasai shukas and iron work and the wonderful porch looks out over a wild landscape populated by buffalo, elephants,...

After a day in the Crater, we were welcomed by a very nice Belgian staff (being Belgian I was pleasantly surprised). The rooms are not big but quite comfy and they have a little fireplace when it gets cold (with the high altitude it does !). The start the fire when you go for dinner, which makes the room nice...

The lodge is ok for visiting the crater early in the morning, but avoid staying there a second night: the walls are thin and you hear noise and voices from other rooms...so if your neighbors are going to wake up early to visit the crater you will wake up early as well! The room is quite basic, the bed is...

We thank you for your comment as we always value the feedback from our guests. We are aware of the issue caused by the thinness of the walls. Indeed, most of our guests do come to our place to enjoy early game drive, they wake-up early and our standard breakfast time is often 05h40 with most of the guests being...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. The Lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting. Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve and visits to nearby Maasai villages, can all be arranged from the lodge. And, on return after a long day, 24 comfortable en suite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home. ... more   less
